What is it and how is it done???
Does it give the car better performance?
In what way does it help?

Local FL car club had a dyno challenge day that I participated in. Figured I'd finally get some numbers for Hunter esp since it was only $40. Many different types of cars were there, Speed3s, SRT4s, Galants, BMW 1, and 370zs.
Alas i ran out of battery charge due to stupid self not making sure they were fully charged the night before. So I was unable to get all the cars.
Anywho heres the print out for Hunter. My prediction for the purpose of the challenge was 125hp.
125.57hp and 128.79tq
Not bad for just intake and exhaust. Figure in the ~18% M/T loss and that makes it ~10hp and ~15tq gain at crank.
Video of the pull, try to ignore the commentary

If anybody wishes to see some of the other pulls

Hey guys, first post here. Sorry, you must have read this question a million times so, please do bare with me. I went to the shop last week wanting to purchase a cold air intake for my 01 Elantra GLS. At the end, I didn't because the guy at the shop told me that I could not simply install it because it would mess up the air sensors and maybe the computer. As I got home, I realize all that needed to be changed was the housing and the filter. So, how true is what the guy told me? Thank you in advance.

Right,
After some carefull consideration I have decided to take on the Elantra full time.It has been very polite to us for nearly 2 years now so it is time.......all major components seem to be maintained{bar the valve belt}hmm
so all being good at belt re-fit i have found that I could do this.......
140 HP with 285Nm Which will really make a difference. Its a remap not a de-restrictrion so will that really wind up the turbo too much or can I wind up the turbo as well...

Alright. So once again I'm making a new thread about a new idea But the thing is, I was at a mechanic shop and the guy which I usually talk to told me that he saw somebody with an HD Elantra like mine, engine swapped with the 2.0T Genesis turbo engine. Have ANY of you with an HD Elantra considered looking into this? I mean cost aside, I'm starting to look into how credible this really is.
Only information I've gathered is:
2010 2.0t Genesis Engine: runs about 2000.
Genesis 6 spd automatic tran: guessing 1500?
will need to redo exhaust+ piping, will dual exhaust it: 600
My dads best friend runs a autoshop. He'd majorly discount any work needed to be done.
Things to consider:
2010 Genesis runs 210hp, 223 lb/ft torque. Doing a quick google search, the gen coupe weights 325 kg more then the elantra.. would the power/weight ratio be a problem with a job like this?
Obviously there is a lot more to this, but I honestly just want to hear your opinions on this, I wanna hear why/ why not's you guys have, and I wanna see if you guys think it's possible. Remember, lets leave money out of the equation!

i dont know how many people have gone through the DIY section and done the messy poly motor mount inserts but i found another way to get poly motor mounts without all the hassle. the rear trans mount on the tiburon is the same as the elantra and prothane makes a poly bushing for the rear of that car so i bought it and installed it.
part number
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ptp-28-501so for a bit more and much less downtime you can have a solid rear mount.
i also used this for the front but i had to shave the poly insert down which took a few tries of installing and removing to get it to fit 100%. but now i have poly front and rear mounts and didnt get messy!

Hey guys,
After installing the Apollo intake, I noticed a significant boost in acceleration but only when the car is still cool. After running a bit, the engine bay gets pretty warm and it hurts the whole cold air setup. I did the coolant bypass mod, and I ran the Apollo piping into the space where the resonator used to be. The pipe picks up air from the vent in the wheel well (it's almost like they designed the vent for the Apollo).
The question I have is, is this all for naught if the piping gets hot anyway? Did anyone see this coming and make a heat shield or something of that nature?

Finally got around to installing my Cai and like everyone else I can't believe I waited so long. Drove for a good two hours strait today and I couldn't help but just pass everyone at every chance I got.
Something concerned me though when I took off the fender wall the old resonator box was covered in dirt and mud. Is this normal?

Anyone else planning on taking off their CAI in favor of a SRI for the upcoming rain? I'm debating... I've never had a problem, but still... there's always a first time.

curious to the Engine name for the HD Elantra's. Trying to find out if this is the Beta II or not. if it is, what are the thoughts of finding a rolled/rear-ended Genisis and taking the 2.0T from it and putting it into the Elantra?
mainly wondering for future ideas that I may have involving a turbo engine in here.

I just finally got the "knock," and "ping," concepts. It never really made sense until now because I had two misconceptions in my head, based on stupid simplistic cartoons of the four-cycle engine. Read if you like (correct if you think it's wrong in some way):
My first misconception was that you get the most power by achieving maximum pressure right at TDC when the compression is highest, that's what engines do and are built for and how it all works. That's just silly. You want some torque on crankshaft, which depends on the offset of the rod on the crankshaft. That's zero at the very top (TDC), so it wouldn't make any torque at all (at least in the simple cartoonish geometry). So, actually, you want peak pressure to arrive noticeably after maximum compression (TDC), and engines are not designed for peak pressure at TDC. If I think about pedaling a bicycle it seems intuitive now. Standing on the pedal when it's at the very top doesn't work that well; it's the torque on the crank that you want, not force. This seems silly because higher pressure and higher temperature is what you want for better thermodynamic efficiency. But...as I said above, that doesn't translate to mechanical torque. As to the cause of the premature detonation we call pings and knocks.. uneven distribution of the air/fuel mixture, hotspots on the cylinder or piston or valves, basically anything that would accelerate combustion beyond its controlled normal "slow" speed and cause the pressure to rise too soon.
My second misconception was combustion was pretty much instantaneous - Boom. Also wrong. The flame takes some measurable time to spread from the spark plug, so the piston is moving while the flame spreads. This means the spark has to fire well before the expected "peak combustion," time (i.e. the timing is advanced). We get the combustion to peak once the piston has started moving down already. This also explains why optimal timing changes with RPM; the cylinder is moving faster, but the flame spreads at the same speed. You need to advance the timing to give the flame time to catch the cylinder before it's too far down already.
The whole ping problem arises from the difficulty of controlling combustion in a pre-mixed air/fuel mixture under pressure. Auto-ignition puts a cap on pressure and compression ratio before things start to go wrong in the cylinder. Another way is to not mix them until the last minute, i.e. direct injection instead of pre-mixed port injection. If you're only compressing the air, there's no need to worry about detonation or limits on compression ratios or cylinder pressures. This gives you more freedom to use higher compression, and turbochargers that achieve much higher air pressures and still not risk pinging, but it requires a 3000psi fuel delivery system and piezoelectric injectors that spray the fuel evenly and withstand the combustion chamber temperatures for many many years. Since it's expensive, that tech started out in more expensive cars and is making its way down to affordable cars. The Hyundai Sonata Turbo, for example, uses a Turbo GDI engine the same displacement as my '03 Elantra (2.0L) and gets about the same fuel economy (though the Sonata is heavier) but it makes 274 horsepower instead of 135.
The comparison is clearer in the Mazda3. The Sport and SkyActive trims both have 2.0L-displacement engines, but the Sport is port-injected motor with 10:1 compression and the SkyActive trim uses a direct-injection motor with 20% higher compression (12:1). Results?
Sport: 148hp at 6500rpm and 135lb-ft at 4500rpm.
SkyActive: 155 hp at 6000rpm and 148lb-ft at 4100rpm.
That's 10% more torque available sooner in the RPM band.
The fuel economy also improves from 33 to 40, but that's harder to compare because the transmissions are different.
So, anyway, I think I learned something today.

Well my seoulfulracing engine damper just arrived!! Gotta find some time to install it. Got an amazing deal only $45 new shipped ===> This is because I used EClub's
Affiliate Mall and went to Ebay !!
I'll try to take some pics and write a basic DIY when I get it installed.
From many reviews combing this and solid motor mounts are the best to decrease engine movement, but I'm just gonna do the torque damper first and see how that feels.

So I thouht I'd compile a list of mods that I am thinking about doing in 2 years and get some feedback on the order I should do them for my auto 2004 Elantra
1. New lighter rims
2. Tiburon sway bar
3. Free flow Muffler
Any other suggestions or changes? I do have an accord CAI but I can't find anyone who is willing to go through the trouble to install it. I am wondering if it's worth the trouble or if I should just cut it and make it an SRI, or if I should just keep my stock airbox with a K&N filter. I'll leave a poll for this one I guess. Thanks for the help in advance.
I also did a 0 to 60 run for my Elantra and got 11.2 seconds. Haha
Btw, I think I accidently posted this to the wrong section. Could soemone move this to the power zone please? Thanks.

So I have a 2005 elantra gls with about 70,000 miles. I keep it in good condition and get oil changes about every 3k. But it seems like its power has been lagging and the pick up isn't as good as when it was newer.. Any tips on how to improve the power and maybe pick up?

I've been searching around to see how much gains people have gotten by switching their TB from a 54mm to a 58mm TB. I saw on customization section of the website that you could gain 10 pounds of torque from switching to 58mm throttle body. Has anyone done this and seen a noticeable difference in power? I'm thinking of doing this mod after I get my CAI intake installed(First real engine mod after almost 4 years of ownership. )
Edit: For clarification, the reason I am asking is from what the guides say on this site, you can get some good gains from 58mm throttle bodies, but I don't see this subject come up often, so before I invest in it I wanted to see how effective it has been for others who have tried it. Thanks!

Can anyone give me some suggestions what perfformance parts that can fit in the new 2012 elantra? I already got a custom dual exhaust but I want to buy the whole catback that's made for the car because what the guy did was he cut the piping in the middle and weld on a new pipe.

My friend just bought one of these for an 08 Jetta. He said it's supposed to give him 70 more horses and 6 more mpg for $50. Is that too good to be true?
Here's the link for it for Elantra's.

Hey all, I know now a days we rely heavily on the aftermarket to supply us with all our go fast goodies, but I was wondering about old fashioned tuning? Has any here ever taken off their tb or intake manifold and see if they can port it themselves with a dremel or metal side cutting bit on a dril? Or what about weight reduction? Anyone do stuff like take off the front clip and start going to town on the front bumper with a hole saw to see how many pounds they can squeeze out of their car? Or cut the reinforcement off the bottom of that really heavy hood? ( I swear the hood on my 5.0l is lighter lol) I'm just asking so if I do try all that free shade tree mechanic stuff that I won't be wasting my time, so I thought I would see if anyone has done stuff like that, free performance mods, free being key, lol or if anyone has any other suggestions please do tell , I wouldn't mind squeezing more power out of the car but I don't want to be squeezing my wallet dry either! Thanks guys. Oh and p.s. already have a cold air intake I jacked off my wife's 08 mustang it fits like a dream. And I already did the coolant bypass on the tb.
