I'm wondering how many different 2.0 mills the H/K empire has produced in the last several years.
After test driving a Soul recently, I started looking at specs. Researching the Soul mill, I see KIA says it's 1999 cc, 164 HP @6500 and 148 TQ @ 4800. The Forte, OTOH, has a 1998 cc motor rated 156 HP @6200 and 144 TQ @4300. Finding bore x stroke and history has so far proved fruitless. Referencing back to my 2007 Spectra, it has a 1975 cc engine rated at 138 HP @6000 and 136 TQ @4500. Is either the Soul or Forte motor derived from the Spectra 1975cc, or are they new-sheets? What Hyundais are/were these engines used in? What 2.0 motor does the Sonata/Optima T use? Is it one of the above-referenced? Any site that discusses the history and derivations of these various engines would be interesting. Thanks for any help with this. -------------------- |

The 07 Spectra has a Beta from the XDs.
The new Soul is running the Theta II. AFAIK Forte may be a Theta I. -------------------- |

A change of 1 cc over four cylinders is rediculously small
It has to be a different head and/or gasket with compression tuning Or new fuel maps altogether but the theta block should be the same Where did Equus go? Haven't seen him online in forever he'd be the one to break it down for us As far as ur original question, not to many, just wouldn't be cost effective to have a dozen different engines, but retuned variations with improvements is different -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.
The packaging clearly stated '100'. I'm short ONE luft balloon. |

It appears the Hyundai Elantra Touring is still using the 07 aka Beta/XD, even shows the same hp and tq figures @ RPM. Haven't seen him online in forever he'd be the one to break it down for us As far as ur original question, not to many, just wouldn't be cost effective to have a dozen different engines, but retuned variations with improvements is different Agreed, two engines within 1 cc is odd. And three engines within 24cc is odd too. BUT GM did this multiple times in the Good Old Days, with each division having a range of engines within a few c.i. of each other. I suppose it's a supply or engineering issue. Perhaps the Forte [1998cc] was in the books before the Soul [1999cc] engine came along. BTW, the turbo used in the Sonata/Optima is the 1998cc engine. -------------------- |

Late post. Found all this thanks to Wiki.
Beta is earlier Elantra and Spectra up to 2009. Elantra Touring until 2012. 1975cc, 138 HP. Theta is the Forte and Optima mills. 1998cc is Forte 156 HP 2.0 mill. 2.4 is 2359cc and 176 HP in Forte. Nu in 1.8 goes in the new Elantra and in 2.0 1999cc 164 HP version goes in the Soul. And thayit's all I know about thayitt. -------------------- |

I didn't know the Soul 2.0 carried the Nu motor... You learn something new everyday.

Don't forget the early sportage 2.0 was actually the Mazda BP IIRC.

While at the KIA dealer this morning, I was eyeballing a Sorento 2.4. D-I-L is wanting a new car. It had an optional GDI, in other words the 200 HP mill that's stock in the Optima and Sonata. -------------------- |
