Hello Everyone,

My name is Sean and I am a newbie here on the forums. Ive had my 2005 XD2 (Automatic) for about a year now (its my first car) and im looking at making it more of my own. I am a college student (Computer Science Major) so I have a tight budget. The only thing i have done to my car is install a full Kicker sound system and im looking to do more to my car in the performance department. Some of the mods im looking at doing are some coilovers, new wheels and a new intake/headers. Can anyone suggest some good parts that have great bang for buck. I have little experience with cars and i am eager to know more.

-Sean

Welcome to the club!!! Have a look around. Check out this thread, http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=35829.

As for engine upgrades there really isnt much to do. Stay away from headers, you will not get rid of the cel. Cold air intakes do help but not much. This car likes suspension mods. Springs, bushings, and sway bars. I Have a few threads going on this.

Yes.

Welcome to the club.

As said, the Beta engine (what you have) is really not a performance engine in any way, and really not easy to get much if any more performance out of it.
For suspension, upgrading to the Tiburon rear sway bar is a pretty cheap mod that does well. Coil overs help a lot but cost a lot more too.

Take a look at the DIY page for ideas also.

Thanks!

Thanks for the DIY Link Toby! I have a feeling that this will come in handy. This summer I plan to put in some new wheels (Toro TR1204 Matte Black 16") and coilovers (KSport Kontrol Pro). Can anybody verify if CarID is a good place to buy stuff from.

Welcome to the club. Take a look at the garage (at the top) and check out other members cars for ideas. Also if you can update your profile/location then hopefully someone near you can help you out or even let you check out their vehicle.

I would recommend doing a short shifter with solid base and linkage bushings, solid front and rear swaybar bushings with upgraded rear tiburon sway bar and lowering springs/coilovers for suspension mods. CAI and exhaust/muffler for performance mods.

Welcome to the club! Looks like everyone else has said what I was going to say in regards to mods. Wheels are likely your best bang for your buck in the "looks" department. A CAI and exhaust will make the car sound nice, look nice and may give you minor gains, but don't expect huge performance gains. Suspension parts as previously described will improve the handling markedly

Also, you had asked about CarID a few posts back and whether they were a good place to buy from. I personally haven't purchased anything from there (though I've looked at their site many times). I haven't heard anybody complain about them so I would imagine they are a good company to work with. It seemed the complaints I found online (just googled them) were largely trivial complaints or one-off issues. I know I've ordered from Korean Auto Imports before and had a good experience, but there are many others that have had issues. The biggest complaint seems to be time for shipping/lack of communication. But that is another site you could check out. Keep in mind that depending on the part it may need to come from Korea.

Here is a listing of many aftermarket companies that carry parts for Hyundai's.
