Ok... so when we start filling up the tank, it fills the tu be that goes into the tank & kick the fuel nozzle off every 2 seconds. It take me for ever to fill up. Does anybody else have this problem? I've been to every gas station to try to find the sweet spot, but nothing...

Hi all
Have a look at how my poor car looked driving home tonight.
What is this truck carrying!?
EWW IT'S ON MY WINDSHIELD! Still not sure what it is. It better come off!
Eww, mystery blood.
I still have no idea why that truck had Mortal Kombat levels of blood flying off it. I took the dashcam footage down to the cop shop in case there's something deeper going on.
Good thing it washed off easily!

This sucks. Much worse than I had thought. I'm cutting out everything that has rest on it... I'll patch a lot with fiberglass, and some with metal. I just got a welder, but I have no welding skills!
F*&K YOU CENTRAL NEW YORK!
Wish me luck...

I've been in the process of *restoring* my Elantra this summer. The first task was ripping out the entire interior and cleaning, repainting, repairing, etc. I took the opportunity to fix a few minor bugs that have bothered me over the years; faulty lighting mods, power locks not working, driver's side door lock frozen, etc.
I can truthfully say now that every single aspect of the car is 100% functional; everything works as it should. It's been years since my power locks worked properly!
Mechanically, the car only needs the following; new front flex pipe (I have it and is getting put on next Friday), new front driver's brakes (one caliper pin is frozen, causing vibration- replacing both rotors, pads, and the one caliper.. all under warranty!) and I need new rear bushings for the sway bar. The bar is the 24mm Tibby bar, and it has Energy red poly bushings. They're really squeaky though, even after grease. I've read the black ones (non-greasable) are actually better and last longer, so I'll give those a try.
There is minor rust under the car; I'm going to soon climb under it with a wire brush and do what I can. I'll spray Rust Reformer on whatever needs it and then undercoat it.
The body is showing its age. The clearcoat decided to self-destruct this summer. I still get pissed when I think about how poor of a job Hyundai did with their clearcoat back then. Whatever... I'm going to respray the truck and top of the car myself, and then have it repainted professionally next year. There's some rust to deal with as well.. fricken NYS winters.
Here are some pics of the engine bay and trunk... not perfect by any means, but the car is 10 years old with 206K on it. I work it (have towed with it for 8 years). Edit: Interior pics added.

Once, in my semi-youth... I thought it was be a good idea to spray the rear door panels with plasti-dip. It looked good initially, until I realized I couldn't armour-all them and they got dusty.
I let them look crappy for a few years until I decided this summer to redo my whole car, starting with the interior.
I then realized I had sprayed the PD on too thin, because IT WOULD NOT COME OFF. I tried everything known to man, and then I read how soaking PD with GooGone can get rid of it. So... I tried it. It created a rubbery MESS, but it started to come off. I noticed that dish soap helped get rid of it once the GooGone had penetrated. The panels were large and I was making a huge mess... so I decided to wash them in the shower stall (I don't have a tub). This was proving to be difficult, because trying to stay dry while running hot shower water over them and scrubbing with dish soap was not happening.
So.. I said screw it. I got undressed and took a shower with my car parts. I kept scrubbing each panel with dish soap and GooGone until the panels were clean (I repainted them with actual vinyl/leather paint). After I finished, I noticed that I had Plasti-Dip residue all over me.
MELTED PLASTI-DIP DOES NOT LEAVE THE HUMAN SKIN EASILY.
Good god, all that scrubbing hurt. Finally got most of it off.... dried myself off, got dressed, dried the panels, and life went on.
The lesson here; don't shower with your car parts.
Oh, and Plasti-Dip shouldn't be used on interior parts you want to keep clean.

It is very sad to report that, today i seen the old girl sitting in the junkyard. She is the same as i sold almost 2 years ago. She has 217,000 miles as she lay to rest. I have no clue way its there. Says nothing about tranny or engine being bad. It was the best Elantra i had to date. Its lighter and a rocket it the snow. Damn i was giving awd snow tire cars a run for there money. The best 600 i ever spent. I even met Kendra in this car, so i got that going for me. She even fell in love with the car. I miss that car every day, i mean the Gt is a nice car but there was just something about the j2 i like better. Anyway i will stop sobbing and leave the last picture i will ever take of the car.

I bought my Elantra new & after 104K miles my PPD sensor in the passenger seat went & My airbag light is on. The repair shop wants $598 to fix it (I don't think so) So I am going to replace the seat with a junkyard unit. The question I have is which years can I use?
I read the 2000-2003 are the same units & interchangeable. Stock number 889062D000
Can anyone confirm this. I'm off first thing tomorrow.
ALSO, how long should I disconnect the battery before reconnecting a new seat?
Thanx

Hon-day04 has been my mother-in-laws car for sometime. She left Lowes and Walmart today and then noticed that someone broke off the Chrome piece on the hood above the grill. I don't know if it was sheer vandalism or a case of mistaken vehicle, but the piece is broken off. Does anyone know what the proper name is for the piece or have a Part number??? Thanks in advance.

I officially sold my Elantra today. You guys have known me from the very beginning of me getting this car. From the very first mods I did.
Final bill of sale - Incus body kit, 25% tint, and all custom audio (removed the subwoofer). 2008 Elantra SE with 98k miles. Sold at a fair price where both of us were happy.
I want to thank you all for the support you guys have shown throughout the years. This will always be my home. Big shout out to Mitch for the great work he has done here. I tip my hat to you. The same goes for all the moderators here. I tried the position for about 2 days and realized it was a lot more work than anticipated. You guys do a great job here.
I will always be around here. Probably lurking and will post up here and there (especially if there is an HD modding question).
I have moved on to my 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Premium. I already love her so much and can't wait to start up the modding process again.
I won't lie... I started to get very sad as I drove away from the auto tags lot knowing I'd probably never see my first car again. Some great memories with that baby. But she's moving on to a 16 year old girl and hopefully will be just as loved.
Here's to you!

Alright so my girlfriend and I purchased our 2013 Elantra GLS just a few days before New Years in 2013. Traded in my 2002 Monte Carlo SS. I drove that car for 8 years and put nearly 100,000 kms on it before the upgrade was necessary. I've put 14,000 km on the car since purchase.
Overall I'm still extremely happy with the Elantra. Fantastic purchase for us and have no regrets whatsoever. That doesn't mean the car is perfect by any means. So let's get into the good, the bad and a small bit of ugly.
Car Specs - 1.8 L 4Cyl. 6 Speed Auto w/Shift-Tronic. Glass sunroof, alloy wheels, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Heated front and rear seats.
The Good
• Fuel Economy - By no means is the Elantra an industry leader in fuel economy. In fact their probably average at best in terms of city driving. My car will use an average of 9L/100km in the city. Certainly not awful, but not fantastic. On the highway the car is a different story doing at times where I'm at cruising speeds as low as 5.0L/100km. In fact for my job I do a ton of highway driving and I can easily get 700km worth of distance out of the 48 litre tank. If I pushed it I might even get close to 800km on a full tank. Which is pretty outstanding. It's important to note that the car I came from was a gas guzzler. 3.8L V6 with over 220 HP. It was also heavy. So the change between economy is really apparent.
• Style - This is a personal preference but the style is pleasing to my eye. Love the lines on the outside. Car looks aggressive and sporty.
• Interior - A thing that I love is when you buy a car that is billed as an "economy car" and it's interior looks like you paid big bucks for it. No one wants a cheap looking car. Interior on the Elantra is very stylish. Things have the appearance of luxury.
• Interior and Storage Space - Comfortably sits 4, uncomfortably sits 5. No regular adult human is going to enjoy sitting in the middle back seat. But if you have 3 kids, perfect. The Elantra is a smaller car, but inside it doesn't feel like it. Decent leg room in the back depending on front seating positions and headroom is fine too. If you have the optional sunroof that really opens up the space and lets a lot of light in. Trunk space is also great, and for us easily hauls our two weeks worth of groceries with space to spare.
• Drive, Handling and Long Distance Comfort - I'd say average on all these. They're borderline in the bad section but honestly the car isn't meant to be a luxury car. It's rough in the way it turns, lots of understeer, especially when taking corners at higher speeds. I've often felt like the understeer, combined with the road conditions and how light the car is that I'm about to fly off the road. But it can be reigned in once you have more time understanding the balance of the car. Long distance comfort is again a personal thing. Some may find it ok. It takes me about 2.5 hours of continuous driving to start getting sore. The seats could stand to be more comfortable and arm rests should have more padding. But those heated seats sure are nice to rest sore back muscles on long drives.
•Warranty - Hyundai is an industry leader with this.
The Bad
• Underpowered - Remember this is the 2013 Elantra. For some reason Hyundai wanted to be one of the last car makers to add in Direct Injection to it's engines. The 2014 includes DI and increases HP output by around 25 which I would love to have on the highway. Sometimes it takes so long for the car to respond to my foot on the gas that it feels like it's never going to do it. The Eco mode has a lot to do with that, but even when off it's sluggish. I didn't buy this car for it to be fast, but I'd like it to be more responsive.
• Navigation Option - This might be only at my dealer. But there is no way to option in the navigation screen at lower tier packages. The only way to get the nav head unit is to buy the highest level of package the have. Limited With Nav is what they call it, which in my dealership started at $34,000. That is a poor move, as I would gladly pay $2,000 for my car to have the screen upgrade.
• Bluetooth Hands-Free - Overall this system is fine. But it's unfortunate that it only works with your phone and to change radio stations. I really wish I could use it to pull up a playlist on my iPod or get it to find an artist. It should have more uses.
The Ugly
• Tires - This might be a dealer thing. The stock tires are garbage. I understand saving a bit of money, but the tires on this car are a joke. I'd be lucky if they lasted 40,000km. I'll most likely replace them within the first year.
• Road Noise - This car again is a enconomy car. I understand that. But the road noise at highway speeds is deafening. When I listen to podcasts or talk radio I need to run my radio volume way up just to hear them. It's absurd how much noise comes through.
So that's it. Car cost us $26,000 and change and we honestly love it. In fact I'll probably stay within the Hyundai family depending on how well the warranty works for us when we need it.

Is it a common occurance or do I have an odd one like my last 3 cars ???

Well after what has felt like an extremely long process, I have finally bought my new car. With a combination of my cars value, the long term saving I've been doing, and my exciting internship this summer, I have earned enough money to buy the car of my dreams =]. A 2011 Hyundai Genesis with 38k miles!
Now I had been searching for months for my next car. I knew I wanted to go into performance and have always loved the GC's, but wasn't sure if I would find one in an affordable range that seemed reliable. I had one I was interested in for a while but the guy bailed out on me. Then I switched to looking at a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. But the kid who owned it couldn't get his act together and the whole thing seemed kinda shady.
Then this GC popped up. She was only on the market for 2 days before I bought her haha. Comes with the tech package so full nav, push to start, and a sunroof. I am absolutely in love. Now to start sellin my Elantra! If you know of anyone interested, let me know! Here are the ads:

After 240,000 miles of trouble free driving on my 1999 Elantra GLS, it was time to find it a new home. The car was still getting 31-34mpg highway depending on how heavy my daughter's foot was on any given day. I still have a 2001 Santa Fe and 2004 Tiburon but will have to say good bye to this forum. When I have had questions, folks here have always been a great resource.

Welp. It's come to that time to remove a fair amount of my mods to help out with resale. Scary I know. I had completely forgotten how many damn mods I had even done. Of course some of them are irreversible, but others needed to be taken out. Spent pretty much all day working on it. I'll be spending some of tomorrow cleaning the wheels of plastidip and a couple other fixer-uppers.
Things removed:
PS2
Full footwell lighting
Secondary 12V plug-in with DC - AC conversion
Old wiring for footwells
Custom Taillights and wiring
Custom headlights and wiring
Rocker switch for LED's
HID lows and fogs
Plastidipped grill restored to stock
Plastidipped wheels restored to stock
All interior white LED lights
All stickers on the rear
Things staying:
25% tint all around
Incus body kit
Custom Euro Plate (if buyer wants it)
7" touchscreen headunit
4 channel amp and all aftermarket speakers
Monoblock amp and 15" sub (if buyer pays $200 extra)
Total restore will be about 12 hours. It's so weird to drive around with regular halogen bulbs now hahah. I'm used to my nice projected white light. Also the cabin feels so dark at night without my footwells. It's an interesting feeling being back at (kinda) stock.
Some before pictures
Work in progress....
Some finished/cleaned up photos
I will update tomorrow with some more pictures of the front and sides
The front is already pretty much done. It just started raining before I could get a good picture. Should be interesting to see how the plastidip comes off the wheels. I've got the plastidip remover stuff so I'm hoping that will work wonders. I'll be sure to make a video of it as well. I also have gone around and added some extra adhesion to parts of my bodykit as some was coming off slightly.
Keep you all posted! Lemme know what you think

The ol' Beast rolled 200,000 miles yesterday. It uses some oil (and leaks it here and there), is rusting in some places and needs a clutch but it starts every time I turn the key. No reason to think it doesn't have another 100K in it (although I probably won't own it that long).

Then I detailed the car and got all the winter remains off.

Now that nearly all the snow has melted over here I can finally move on to from the winter look. out are the oem steelies + hubcaps and winted tires, out are the snow mats, removed the grille block, ill be installing new ventivisor too, the rear passenger side broke .
now I installed my summer wheels which are 17x8 enkei rs-5 with ironman imove tires (so silent) , plasti dipped my front grille, remove the hid kit (defective in under a year, both bulbs blew) and installed modded H9, installed 893 fog lamp bulbs, also a new intake is being taught. I may get lowering springs but i often get " off road" to access bike trail so i still dont know.
here is a cellphone picture, the good ones are comming, I may also join with some quebec owners from around my place to make a photoshoot !

So there are a few minor things and one major thing that needs to be done. Don’t have a place to work on the car, so it needs to get warm out. Getting the tibby bumper here in a few weeks. Ordered a hid kit for the fogs, yellow!!! Also got a splash shield for the car. Getting a stack of parts here. Lol. So, do any of you have any plans or parts ready for the car?

Well you have wondered why i post a thread about the HD cars. Well today he traded in his 06 Honda civic 5 speed for a 08 Hyundai Elantra SE Automatic. He didnt really need or want a new car. He was looking to get out of the 5speed car and into a 4 door Auto car, He's 56 and getting sick of shifting. So we found this car closest to are house, drove it and really liked it. Thought about it for a few days and called the bank. So today we drove it again and drove off with it tonight. So here are a few pics i took. Will get more in a few days.

I purchased the 2003 GT for use as a commuter car as I was starting back to work. I had rented several Elantra's before and really felt at home in them which lead to the decision for the 2003 purchase.
I did some maintenance work on the car to insure it's reliability as many of the contracting jobs I do requires usage personal owned vehicle. The last position was a 4 month stint putting on some 600 to 1000 miles per week. Since the company paid GSA mileage rates, quite quickly the mileage paid for the car purchase.
I am now off contract so the Elantra is driven very little as I instead ride my bicycle for most of the needing running.
Tonight I need to take my grand son to his mothers place which is some 120 miles north of my home. Since I hadn't driven the car in close to two months, it was almost like re-acquainting with my wife. It was such a joy to drive. I'm still glad I put the new headset in which included bluetooth, mp3, . . .
Yes, the car is now 11 years old. In this area, the weather is dry, roads are not salted, although the road surfaces often are in needs of repair/resurfacing, the Elantra is still the great car I had dreamed it to be.
Yes, I like the looks of the new GT, but I don't feel it to be say $20k better than my 2003. So my "Honey Moon" still continues!

All you have to do is sell your passenger seat, your rear seat and your center console!
[attachment=5081:988802_7...005318_n.jpg]
You can donate the proceeds to ElantraClub.com!
So the story is my radio has had very poor reception for a while. I've tried several things, and today's trial involved getting to my amp. But that's not important right now. I just had to give this a drive before putting everything back! Best fun ever!
