well, there's a possibility of me moving to the Kansas City area,

don't know which side... maybe missouri... somewhere close to the city...

if the fiancee' (by then my wife) takes a job out there..

i'm packing up my bags and puttin the elantra on a trailor..

and driving out there...

so, here are a few questions:

- emissions Laws , how strict are they out there?

- do cops bother import drivers out there with rims and such tells?

- how's the food?

- how's the weather (sorry for my ignorance)

- is it better to Commute from Kansas, or Missouri?

THANKS ALL !

any members out there?

A pet food maker that produces tainted food...... Sorry I could not resist. Glad I only feed my cats dry food. Sad story.

I have been there a couple times. Just traveling thru though. Thought it was FLAT if your into flat.... Honestly do a google / ask search

I stayed in St. Louis for a week. But I was working, and when I wasn't working I was at the Hotel drinking! biggrin.gif

Well, atleast you're smart enough to stay out of Wisconsin. This state is like a blackhole that sucks you in and never lets you leave. I like to think of it as a Bionic-Shit Hole.

Missouri is pretty lax on emissions overall, but KC area may be different, like many metro areas are going these days.

Crime is kinda high in KC... one murder a day on average... something like that... newscasters act like it's no big thing. But considering the population, maybe it isn't. I know it's not the worst city in the nation, but I'm sure it's on the top 40 crime-city list.

A lot of burbs around KC... they have a strange calling-zone thing... if you want to call someone across town, it's a toll-call unless you have a metro plan. If you're moving there, probably won't know many people, so won't be beneficial.

A lot of ricers there, like any suburban area... dark-tinted windows are everywhere.

Climate is probably warmer than it is in DC area, similar to what it is in coastal NC where I'm at. But have to watch out for tonados (middle of tornado alley, even though you're not in kansas Dorothy).

Commuting from Kansas??? if you like being stuck in grid-lock it's an option, but you'd be better off in Lees Summit (my aunt lives in Holden... about a 1/2 hr drive to town, but lived in KC about 30 years).

The food in KC is pretty decent... they have barbeque kinda like Memphis, only without the slaw... much more variety for restaurants than many other places... not as good as Minneapolis/St.Paul, but pretty close.

An added bonus... they've got quite a few casinos $$$$!

I haven't lived there, but spent a lot of time visiting my aunt. Hope that helps you out a little bit.

I have 3 cousins living in the area... One lives in Lees Summit, kind of a middle-class area. Another lives in Independence, kind of ghetto area. Third lives in Warrenton but that's a 45 minute drive and quite rural, about halfway between KC and Jefferson City. My aunt worked for the IRS, still helps out a bit during tax time, and she comutes, doesn't seem to mind the drive from a subdivision in Holden.

Oh, forgot to mention... sewage ponds are common rurally there too... they don't smell bad or anything, but man do they have a fluorescent green color!

As for Kansas... a buddy of mine lived in Olathe, but was a long drive to KC where he works. He now lives in Shawnee, seems to like it there. Overland Park is basically a town built for Sprint's HQ, however uses Bell South local services ironically. Sprint has a HUGE complex there... employees (I'm a former one) call it the Taj Mahal. You'll see why if/when you drive by it.

If there are other 'burbs that you're considering, send me a PM... I have enough sources there to confirm the good/bad/ugly ones and let you know. Also might help to know where she may be working too.
