Anyways, I have had a cone filoter on my '04 for some time now, and I was reading a few posts that talk about oiling up the filter before putting it on. Is this something that MUST BE DONE, or am I ok for not doing it. I just bought a $25 APC filter from Pep Boys that didn't include any oil? Should I look into getting anew filter and oiling it, or just oiling this one?

you dont HAVE to have it... but it is highly recomended.... K&N make both a spray on Cleaner and Oil......i went about 3 months whitout using any oil or cleaner..... and when i finally bought some. i put the cleaner on. let it soak for 10 minutes. rinse with clean water, then let it air dry........... then apply the oil and leave it sit for about 20 minutes before putting back on..... anyhow whenever i did this and put it back on. i noticed a difference. it feels like it picked up a little more smooth, but the biggest difference is the growl you hear from the intake.... i use to only be able to hear it when i pushed the pedal down... now when the car is idling. i can hear it hissin.. sounds awsome..... my advice take 15-20 bucks and go get yourself some of this K&N cleaner.... i got mine at NAPA....

I just got a K&N panel filter that came pre-oiled. The paperwork said to clean and re-oil it in 50,000 miles. Woohoo!

it depends on what its made of..
steel mesh filters do not need to be oiled... (i don't recall anyone here using this) if its an APC intimidator filter, its cotton gauze which CAN be oiled... i got one to replace my Matrix filter which was dry guaze too... and because it didn't say anything about oiling it.. i left it alone.. the Re-oiling kits go for about 9 bucks at advance autoparts.. (used to have K and N too) -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.
The packaging clearly stated '100'. I'm short ONE luft balloon. |

I work at Pep Boys, so I will probably just pick it up there.

In other forums I read the common caveat is to keep an eye on (inspect) your MAF sensor and even your throttle body.
Oil droplets from these filters you mention effect the MAF and cause dirt/crud/whatever to appear magically on the throttle body. Just relating "news from elsewhere". Kira -------------------- A proud member of the club.
