So it looks like Hyundai is going to do a wagon version of the new i30. Now keep in mind that Hyundai has said they are dropping the current Elantra wagon in favor of the hatchback version of the i30 (our new GT). Now here's where it gets interesting. Does Hyundai release the wagon version here as well? It might happen. You'd have the two MD based variants (sedan and coupe) and the two i30 variants (hatch and wagon). It might seem crazy to have four models under the Elantra nameplate but it might just work. What's your thoughts?

Here's a few pics and honestly I might like the wagon better than the hatch...

A very interesting development indeed.

The proportions on this thing rock. The more I look at it the more I hope Hyundai brings it over here.

Getting mileage out of a popular nameplate that just won nacoty makes more sense than trying to introduce a new name. Ford renamed the 500 and Montego the Taurus and Sable because the design may have grown tired, but the names were still popular. The new cars were even in a different class.

Hey-I like the lower location of the hatchback rear license plate but the overall design is very nice.

IMO better looking than the GT. The GT has a weird slope to the back end. I love the way wagons look. Plus this rear end on this one will offer way more capacity. Also Hyundai is taking the Veloster look and putting it on all their cars more.

Very nice!
They should drop the hatch and offer this instead. Not that much larger but makes more sense with the added room at the cargo section.
Nicer front end too.

I think the car works great. I just worry Hyundai is bringing too many versions of the same car and begin to compete with itself for sales. Basically one of the problems the Big 3 had, as in the Ford competing with Mercury, Chevy vs GMC vs Cadillac vs Buick.

I think keeping the models limited is a better way to go.

I like the look of this much better than the new GT. It actually would have cargo room behind the seats like the old GT vs. next to nothing like the Mazda 3. I would love to see a GT Wagon!
