As the Elections are now called off, what is your opinion if any on this subject?

Gonzo,

An Election was being called since we had scandals in the Liberal Party. There was a vote yesterday at the House of Commons and it was ruled out. Last year at this time we had an election to vote for our Prime Minister who is Paul Martin. But since you are from the States, this might not have gotten to your ears! Good ole corrupted Government!

The minority government avoided being defeated by one vote yesterday on the budget vote.

That would automatically have triggered new elections.

I'm personnaly happy not to have to go through that after only 1 year, but I do realize that it can't last much longer. They're not doing any work - well, even less than usual -. My question is: who would we vote for ? There is no one in there right now deserving my vote.

I rarely listen to the radio or watch the news -- here in the states we usually only see the 'bad' news -- I like my hole.

I'm happy is was called off..

1. I work there and provide tech support, I would have worked stupid shifts and my summer would have been screwed!

2. It costs shit loads of money to call an election. That's our money and can be put in much better places. They can wait! What worst can happen now? They're watched now for every little thing they do anyways!!

3. Yeah, who's left to vote for? They all screwed up in the past or present.

Too true! All the parties kinda suck too. They're either insane or just plain dumb it seems.

Minority governments are actually a good thing - look at the influence the NDP can now have in the House of Commons. It brings balance to governments - they can't afford to be arrogant as was shown in the last four years here in BC with the BC Liberals with a 77 to 2 seat margin, they did what they damn well pleased. The ruling party can't be a special interest government, be it to corporate interests, or unions, or any other group that keeps them in power. It is much closer to what a democracy should be -

Looks like you guys are having fun up there. Look at the bright side, at least you don't have hanging chad, A president who wasn't elected twice, and a war you shouldn't be fighting with no way to gracefully end it!

As an American and a Canadian I feel ashamed at both of my governments right now. Too many scandals - and they're all getting away with it! Still though, I have to say the lesser of two evils is the great white north. At least Martin isn't screwing the entire world...
