I have been noticing a dip in power as I go up in RPMs. I drop a bit of power between 3400 and 4000 rpm. Feels like the car pulls back for a second, and then decides to really go again. Only fault code is P0441, but I have had that code for 3 years, and this problem only came up within this last year. Any ideas?

Im sure that will have something to do with it. Fix the issue and it should be better.

What year/engine is it, and how many miles? The Beta2's had a perceived dip in that range as the engine transitioned the cam timings via the CVVT system as well as injector controls. At lower RPMs, the engine is tuned for higher efficiency (MPG). At higher RPMs, the timing changes to optimize power. This change is done through small oil passageways. It might be possible that some sludge could be built up in those areas, so the cams don't make the transition at the designed rate. Have you had lapses in oil changes or switched to a different weight oil? It's important to use the specified oil weight for exactly this reason. A less viscous oil will cause problems with the CVVT system. Also, cheap oil filters will cause issues with the oil system as well.

159724 miles on a beta2
I had assumed it would involve something with the cvvt, just wasn't sure if/how it could be addressed or if anyone had had this issue before. I have had a few lapses in oil changes, as well as discovered the hard way that I am either burning or leaking oil. (stopped to get gas and new I was half way between a change. checked the dipstick and it was dry. took 2 quarts to fill it...) I guess I need to ask two new questions: 1) anybody know of common leaks on the beta 2, or what I may need to address for the burning possibility? 2) seafoam usage. Have you guys had good lick with it, and would you recommend a different procedure from their usual directions? -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Valve cover gasket and oil pan leaks are both common. I wouldn't think the piston rings or valve seals are worn that bad with only 159k

I have only had the car for its last 40 thousand miles, and the only hard use it has gotten from me has been the occasional hard entrance to the interstate or a quick romp through some back roads. Previous owner drove mostly on the interstate.

yEP... If you look at dyno chart with air/fuel ratio, taht is about the time the ECU goes full rich at WOT. Thats prett much normal for all the BetaII's. My non CVVT hit the wall at 3400-4000 as well.

Recently, it just feels like it is really pulling, almost like it drops a 10 Hp or so. Feels like it is really lacking compared to how it use to be. I had never noticed it did this until a few months ago.

Like i said , You have a cel on. I believe its a o2 code. That would make it lose power. Fix that, do a tune up, and see where its at.

It's been there, trust me. They all do it. It's in the programming of the ECU, it sucks. And yes, PO441 is likely the purge valve. Common problem with that generation of Hyundai. Will have nothing to do with the ECU programming dumping fuel at the 3400rpm range.
