So upon removing the badges from my XD (that's three total badges) I found this dirt layer outlining the letters that were once there. Soap and water just seemed to make that outlining dirt layer laugh menacingly at me as I scrubbed at it more than a surgeon before his first operation. When I thought all hope was lost and that I'd have to live with a dirt-badged vehicle my mom (who's house I was at so I could have access to a hairdrier and garage) suggested this orange soap stuff by her sink. Me, being the naïve and frustrated idiot I am thought "oh ya, my mom knows everything about car paint and would never suggest something that would damage it in anyway" even if she did call it "orange stuff".

Well let me tell you, it definitely works...

Not only will (I later found out) Gojo industrial hand soap (with pumice particles.... great) remove dirt from your paint, but scuff the s*** out of your clear coat as well.

So now I'm left with a badgeless XD, but barely noticeable scuffs where I applied the Gojo that can be seen when looked for. The problem is I think they will only get worse over time..

So before I start covering my hatch in clear nail polish does someone have any suggestions for me?

Too long, didn't read: I scuffed my clear coat with industrial soap and need a cheap fix that hopefully doesn't involve repainting my car.

Will post pictures in the second post.

You can have a shop shoot some clearcoat over the areas and cross your fingers.

Haha I looked a little online and I guess ScratchX isn't too bad and I can do it by hand but I'm nervous to try anything new.. Need a little mental reassurance.

Scratch X works well, the scratches are in the clearcoat only, not to the paint level so it will work well. To be a perfectionist, use a wax that has a cleaner/polish aspect, such as Meguiars cleaner wax, or Mothers Carnuba cleaning wax, both take out fine scratches and will eliminate any remaining dull or hazy aspects to where you cleaned.
Dont worry, I use all of these on a black car all the time and they will not damage the paint.
Let me know how it goes smile.gif

Alex and I have both had great success using turtlewax rubbing compound (polishing has also worked well for me with getting rid of swirls). There is a review here. You can use it by hand, but it will take some muscle as you have to generate some heat for it to work effectively. 20/20 hindsight a polishing or rubbing compound would have accomplished the same things as the Gojo without causing the damage.

Wet-sand with 2000 grit sandpaper... if that doesn't make the obvious scratches blend to a matte finish, then step down to 1500 and back to 2000 again, following up with rubbing compound, polishing compound, and wax until shine is restored. (DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE with sandpaper... wrap it around a sponge and lightly go over the surface in a circular motion, dipping it in a pail of clean water every 15-45 seconds.)

I've used Scratch-X. It will make it better, but might not totally buff out the scratches. It won't make it worse, though.
