Give me a hatch version, with the six-speed, and about 150-160 hp that gets at least 34 hwy, and I'm there....

Can it be done hyundai?

Yes, if they use the Kia Forte Engine.

Too bad there is no 5 speed automatic on the 2.0l engine though...

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this (I've been a bit out of the loop lately), but I just saw the next-gen Elantra in the Gallery here, and I gotta say it looks good!

With that, I poked around for an update, and I found this article, which states the next Elantra will 1) boast 40mpg, 2) have coupe and crossover variations, and 3) come out as early as late next year.

Here is another article (with gallery), which states the launch of the new Elantra will be two years ahead of schedule, as sales of the current HD model have been disappointing.

And then, there's this blog post, which mentions the rumor that the new Elantra will be known as the MD, and that Hyundai will unveil a hybrid version by '13.

I want one!

40+ MPG? I'll believe that when I read about it. MPG has never been Hyundai's strong suit.

Still, nice-looking car!

I hear you there. My XD, ongoing tranny problems and all, still averages about 25 mpg per tank. If it was healthy, it'd be more like 28.

(I know, I know... but at least she's still running!) smile.gif

I can see it since the HD easily makes 35 for me. Maybe a few aero tweaks and a five speed will improve the highway milage to 40. I can see it, but around town it'll be 28.
