I don't know how many of you guys remember me, but I used to post here when I had my favorite (so far) car I've ever owned, an '02 Elantra GT. Long story (sorta) short, in 2012, I traded my Elantra in on a new Cruze. Well, I didn't like the payments and honestly, I missed my Elantra (this was about 6-9 months after the allure of owning a brand new car wore off) and ended up letting my parents trade that in and I paid off their '06 Accord sedan, which had been in the family since 2010 and this was 2013 at this point. My Mom got a new 2013 Civic and I had the Accord. Well, the plan was to sell the Accord and get something sportier and I had my heart set on a Civic Si ('06 era) and I searched and searched and couldn't find one for a good price. Fast forward to August 11th this year. My friend had seen an Elantra at a dealership and called and told me about it. Went down to check it out and it had a few electrical problems and the brakes need re-done, but I wanted it and ended up getting it. It had 48k (carfax confirmed) 2 owner miles and I'm in love again.
i got the electrical issues sorted out. Turned out it was just a part in the fuse panel in the interior of the car was turned the wrong way and was causing the stereo, dome lights, central locking, keyless entry, etc. to not work right. Also, I didn't have the door chime. I'm sure there are other things it affected, but I ended up finding the fix on a google search and now, I've gotta get the brakes done (where would you guys recommend?) and I plan to do some mild mods. Just a nav/backup camera setup, GT grille possibly, exhaust/intake, etc. Anyway, there's a few things I left out, but I'm getting tired of typing and you guys might be getting tired of reading. I've attached a pic. I have more, but I don't have 'em hosted yet. Anyway, I'm so glad to be back in an Elantra. It's actually surreal. I was 22 when I got my first one and I'm nearly 32 now, so yeah, it's seriously like one of those "home again" feelings. I'm super happy and I just had to post. Thanks to those who read this. Disclaimer: I'm not mechanically inclined at all, (yet) so if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to mechanics, chances are, I probably don't. -Sean This post has been edited by FadeToBlack: Aug 20 2015, 09:48 AM

wow i had no idea the hatch could be a GLS too. Yea, they started that in '05 I believe, just like in '04 you could get the GT in the sedan, GT was only available in hatch before that. -------------------- "Those who yell the loudest about how unfair the world treated them are usually the reason for the treatment in the first place". Rear brakes ... not so easy but still do-able for the mechanically inclined Just look at the parts available at Rockauto.com Look in the vendor section for a discount code Compare and then see if you might want to tackle it on your own?? -------------------- Working hard, living proud

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back!!

Awesome. That's what I was trying to find. I found the old website I got my timing belt/water pump (hyundaipartsonline.com, I believe) for my '02 GT and didn't see anything below '06 or '07. I'm not gonna be doing 'em myself, but my uncle is gonna do it. He restores cars and stuff, so he knows a pretty good lot. I'll probably watch him and see, so I'll get an idea of how to do it, so I can maybe tackle it next time. Here's some more pics: '05 Elantra GLS Hatch I hadn't washed the car before any of those pics, so it actually looks a lot better when clean, I would imagine. Still haven't washed it yet. I've got some errands to run, then I'll check out RockAuto. Again, thanks for welcoming be back. -------------------- '05 Elantra GLS Hatch - Moonlit Blue/Gray, 5 Speed, 49K Original Miles.

Quick question about the clutch. In my '02, the "grab point" was like halfway or so and in the '05, it seems like you almost have to let it all the way out before it grabs. Is this normal? It's hard to get used to it and since it's kinda loud (stock exhaust), when I pull out, it sounds like I'm riding the clutch.
