Was checking out my breaks on a 01 Elantra GLS and on the front passenger wheel I found a sensor of sorts. It is magnetic. Looks like a ABS speed sensor but I do not have ABS.
Anybody know what this is for? Ken -------------------- R.I.P. my love Shelley K.

It is technically the same as an abs sensor, but the right front wheel on ALL XD's, ABS or non, have this wheel speed sensor. Not personally sure of it's function, but it does feed into the ECM along with the vehicle speed sensor [which is mounted on the tranny].

... and also tells the ECM when you hit 115-120 mph. Then it shuts you down

That is the Wheel speed sensor to the ECM and also the Rough Road sensor. When it senses erratic revolutions it is supposed to inform the ECM and then the ECM will cancel any Misfire Diagnostics it is doing and then will go back to diagnostics when it sees a clean signal. I read this in the manual. This is supposed to be only on Siemens Engine management design.

yep. just a speed sensor. i found this out the hard way by breaking it, then having to spend 80$ on a new one, 60$ to get it installed (which i got ripped on...dealership told me 120, buddy did it for 1/2, and took him less than an hour)...but i think he might have messed something up installing it...the old one snapped off in the knuckle, and he had to torch it out...4k miles later, my speedo is doing the same thing as when it was broken, and wont let me tach over 5100 about 1/2 the time. sometimes i can redline, sometimes it just cuts me off at 5100 and cant go any higher. im thinking that when he torched it, something on the knuckle got messed up
