Hello guys, how can I make this thing light when the door is open? I mean,I know that I have to put a led strip in there etc but my problem is how should I route the cable to power this on. I'm not familiar with the wiring on the newer Elantras, but my '04 has lights from the factory that turn on when the door is open. Yours doesn't have that?
The only wiring that I know of that you would have to tap into would be the dome light. If it's set to "door", then it would turn on and off when the door was open. You'd have to trace the wiring behind the dash, tap into it, and then run a wire through the grommet where your power locks/windows wiring are. That wire would only be hot when the door was open. I'm not sure if you can tap directly into the door switch or not. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about the later Elantras can chime in! -------------------- Music Teacher/Geek for life!! |

Hey-I think that "light" is a reflector.

you would have to run a wire from the door frame where the little black button that turns on the dome light. Go from that button along the frame to the gromet that runs from the frame to the door then down to the reflector. you would want a quick conect on the light and wire so if you have to remove the pannel again you would just unhook the quick conect.

you can use 18g speaker wire then you will have a + wire and a - wire.
the most pain in the butt parts are going to be pulling the pannels to run the wire you can ziptie the new wire to stock. and feeding the wire threw the black gromet and loom into the door. -------------------- |

If you mean that my cable should be taped to the black button of the frame you are wrong man!The button on the frame does not give + and - .It just close the circuit. So One cable should be taped on the button probably the - one and the + where???? -------------------- A proud member of the club.

why not ground to chassis? if power is only from button when door is open you can steal a few bits of power, ground to chassis and dont worry about the circuit.
what i would do...OR forget about all the rigamoreau and hullabaloo and power rigbt from battery with an inline fuse and cool LED toggle switch. ground back to battery or chassis. -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.
The packaging clearly stated '100'. I'm short ONE luft balloon. |

Might be easier and would still be cool looking, but how about putting some LED's under the dash and wiring them to the dome light? Then you don't have to take apart the door and when you open your doors you have a cool glow coming from under your dash. Some nice footwell lighting!
Personally I am jealous of my wife's minivan. It has blue LED mood lighting around the dual DVD players in the back and the front cupholders and all the interior lights are LED's too. I must say it is a pretty sweet minivan! A black T&C S edition. -------------------- Please consider helping keep the club online and independent. Donate here to help the club.
