Front Cabin light

Add one to 2006

This generation (2001-2006) really put the Elantra on the map.

Hello,

I have a base 2006 Elantra. It doesn't have a light in the front cabin, only a small one mid-cabin.

On my last trip the the junkyard, I found a 2006 Elantra with a front cabin light/sunglasses holder. I removed it and its wiring harness.

My question is this: does the roof liner differ from the base model to the one that came with the light/sunglasses holder? I'm assuming the mounts are built into the roof, and I'm hoping I can just cut my liner and install the new light in-place, splicing the power into the cables for the existing light.

If anyone has done this or has helpful suggestions, I'd appreciate them, thanks.

I honestly thought all XD gen Elantras came with front map lights and a sunglasses holder.

I believe the sunroof cars were a bit different. I will agree that the lighting was never that good. I just wired the map lights to the dome . helped me see at night. Some good leds will help too.

I replaced all interior lights with LED equivalents and that made a huge difference. Even just dome light can now illuminate the front area a LOT better than before. It was cheap and easy to do.
Did the same with the backup lights, and now I can actually SEE the area behind the car when I back up at night.

My HD is just as bad as the XD. I guess my tint doesn't help that.

You could get some led strips and put then under the dash. Then wire them into the door switch. I believe one did that years ago.
