Hello everyone. I'm the somewhat proud owner of a GL hatchback. I've had it on the road for almost a week, and overall I like the the car but this is tempered with concerns about the gas mileage. First of all there's lot's of unknowns, no manuals, and mimimal service history. I've done a few real basic things - oil change ,air filter, dumped fuel injector cleaner into the gas, new tires up front. I'm enjoying driving the car however my attention is on the fuel gage needle which appears to be dropping noticeably after a short 20k trip.
I might be jumping the gun because I haven't had a chance to properly gage the gas milage. But, my plans are to swap the spark plugs, do a transmission fluid flush/change , alignment (seemed off a tad, and to prolong the tires), and maybe something for the fuel injectors. I noticed the intake by the air filter was a little loose so I tightened that up. I'll try to make a mental note - but I think the tack was at 2900-3000 while doing 115-120k/hr or about 70-75 on the highway. I kind suspect because of the low mileage on the odometer the car may have sat for a while. The only other thing is I plan to do a hour sustained drive at highway speed (supposedly helps burn off deposits in the engine).
I think it's a 45 litre tank so I'm thinking I should get around 450 k per tank (combined city/highway).
So I'm open to any input or suggestions, or if there's anything problematic with the Elantra that would cause this.
Cheers
