Hey, I'm new here. I have a question.

My friend has blown the rings on his 1994 Elantra 1.8l. His tranny is toast as well. I'm looking for info on engine models.

What are Direct Bolt Replacements(DBO) for this car in this year?
What are some suggestions as replacements?
What years are best?
What is the engine model named for the 1.8l in the elantra?

I do appreciate it. We're looking at getting a local insurace totalled half-cut. For cheap.

Any info is appreciated!

Welcome lyme!

Engine AND tranny are shot? On a '94?

Hmm... If I were in that situation, and the body was fine, I might start looking for an elantra of about the same year that has a wrecked body and good engine/tranny. Of course, I feel fairly confident that I could make the swap.

Or even a total replacement, like this one:

I believe 92 to 95 only Elantra engines/trannies would work, because they were made by Mitsubishi. 96 and later Elantras used the Beta Hyundai engines and are not interchangable with the early models.

check with LKQ. You can find them on ebay. I'm sure they won't have an engine for auction but you can call them. I will try to find their number on my paperwork.
