I just bought a 2008 elantra GLS. 5 speed manual with power windows/locks/mirrors/upgrade 6 speaker stereo, factory keyless entry/alarm, etc.. etc..
Love the car so far, but noticed something irritating. When I lock the doors with the key fob, and then hit the button again where the horn honks, I noticed this weekend that randomly the alarm will go off and the lights will flash and horn honk. If I just hit the button once and lock the doors, I don't have the problem. But I noticed the alarm going off randomly several times this weekend and its kind of irritating. Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong? |

according to the manual I believe pressing the button twice is not needed and doesn't do anything except beep the horn... but I read that a few years back.
So technically it shouldn't mean anything towards the issue here might be something else setting it offf..... -------------------- |

check this link - theres a TSB -
http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24404 Not the exact same issue but if you beep the horn and alarm goes off, I'm betting the horn makes vibration which hood vibrates and alarm goes off. a new hood pad fixed my issue. -------------------- |

jamhandman - if I don't press the lock button twice, I don't have the problem. If I press it twice, then eventually the alarm will go off randomly.
vincent - the alarm doesn't go off as soon as I beep the horn and lock it. It will go off eventually, at random times. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

okay so it is the exact same issue I was having then. I thought you said it happened when you beeped, but if beep you mean arm, then when ever it feels like going off it does... same shit I had happen.
look for your hood pad and once you find it, you will see the hood switch - disconnect the hood switch and I guarantee your alarm wont do it again. If that stops the random alarm, then go get a new hood pad their like $5 but mine was under warranty. its a common issue with the 08's-2010's on almost all models. you might get away with lowering the bump stops on the hood which should allow the hood pad to press more onto the hood switch. Thank you vincent. I did some limited reading and researching before I posted, and saw the hood switch mentioned before as the main culprit for this problem. I'll disconnect the switch for now! -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Its funny you mention this. I have the factory alarm in my 09 and I was trying to find ways to fool it to see what would happen. (locking myself in the car and manually opening a lock still does not set it off...
Its a pretty smart system. -------------------- Owner of a 2013 Elantra GLS and proud to be a member of this club.

I can tell that my HD elantra has the pre-tsb rubber thing for the hood switch. So I guess for now I can just disconnect the hood switch until I can get that rubber post thing. Don't know if it's worth dropping off at a dealer for something like that. Do they stock that part at the dealership or what?

Hmmm. There's a Hyundai dealership literally minutes from my house. Guess I should just roll by there.

you can actually mess with the height of the pad under the hood. I had to do that with mine. Either push it down or pull it up to see what works for you

Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong? On the other side of the key fob is a "panic" alarm button which sets off the alarm. Be sure you are not accidentally pressing it. I have a couple of times when I have bumped in to some thing or bent over with a lot of stuff in my pocket. -------------------- A proud member of the club.
