Personally, and I don't mean to be harsh, but you're wasting your time trying to figure this out. Drive the car until you are either ready to have it fixed, or wait until something fails and then decide what to do.

It's not normal for the starter to stick, but it is rare for this to happen and I think it may be from the transmission swap. Sounds like it was a bit of a sloppy job.

Not harsh at all. Thanks for the help.

So the tranny, on a noise scale of 1-10 went from about a 7 or 8 (for 5 or 6 miles when cold) to a 0.5 or less now. The reason: I added more oil. It was LOW from the dealer! My trans is probably still toast from the 50 miles or so trip back from the dealer but it is what I consider to be at the proper level - where it will just flow out of the fill hole and it's not noisy anymore. The noise started to drastically decrease the day after I added oil.

I think I was jacked at the dealer. Since it's anybody's guess as to what year of tranny is on my car (02-06 I think), it makes me wonder if they underfilled it. Does anyone know if the fill capacities were the same or if they were different between 02-06?

I've had it inspected at the tranny shop twice since adding oil and they claim they can't hear any problems with it. Like I said, damage is done I'm sure, but correct oil level helps.

Glad to hear that the noise is basically gone. My suggestion for helping longevity would be to drain/refill the trans with a good GL4 synthetic in about 1k miles to remove any possible metal that is floating around in there. As long as it shifts fine I feel you are okay for the long run. Enjoy your car!

Capacity is 2.2 quarts for 01 to 06 and you can't overfill, because it will just spill out of the fill hole.

Fluid secified is 75W85 synthetic GL4 and I get the OEM Hyundai gear lube from the dealer. BTW, there is TSB changing the gear fluid from 75W90 to 75W85, for full replacement, from 1996 models and up.

I do not think your transmission is done.

too low of fluid fluid can cause areation and cavitation. cavitation will chip away small chunks of gears and so on and so forth. i personally use redline mtl full synthetic which is a 75w-80 gl-4. it seems to work well. personally it sounds like ur current trans will survive quite a bit longer but i can't be sure due to the fact that i can't see and hear it in person.

I'd run the current oil for about another 1k like milehigh said, put in some good fluid and make sure you change it after like 25k and run it till it quits.

I'm pretty sure it's got some tranny/clutch issues but the labor is all the same so I should decide whether to drive until it breaks or sell and take a loss. I've just been driving it for now. 850 miles since buying the car and probably 150 since the dealer underfilled and I added oil.
