I bought it last february and started looking in to buying new rims for it when all the sites had my car having four. I looked at the garage pictures and sure enough they all have four. I passed third grade math and there is definitly five on mine. Any thoughts on this? Love the car by the way and really like this site. Thanks for any input.

Hey yall,
Taking delivery of a new 2010 Elantra Touring Sport tomorrow. Found this site and thought that it would be a good place to start. A little about myself, I'm a domestic dweeb, never had an import, (besides a rebadged Daewoo Kalos, aka Pontiac Wave, biggest mistake ever). Long story short the wife has some serious baby fever going on right now, so something a little bit more practical was in order. So we decided to take advantage of some of the cash discounts and low financing rates offered right now. Pretty excited actually about this one, and Ive had 9 cars in as little as 5 years, everything from a Cobalt SS, to a Hemi Ram and this one seems like a decent fit for once.
Looking forward to getting to know you guys a bit better, and finding how many i30 aftermarker parts cam be slapped on this thing

Hi everyone, I would like to start off by stating that I am a complete and utter newbie when it comes to anything cars, I do however believe I can confidently grasp most technical aspects about cars with a little bit of tutoring, which is why I'm posting in the first place. I will soon be in the possession of a 2000 Hyundai Elantra, which has done about 120,000 km's, as far as I am aware this is pretty good(please correct me if I'm wrong).
I am currently a student in Australia living away from home with a pretty shitty job, so most of my money comes from the government and I really have very little savings remaining. Naturally, my main concern is "will this car end up costing me more then it's worth?". If there are any major issues that tend to pop up with this particular sort of car that are pretty well known I would love to hear about them Other then that I would very much like to get into the car and learn to do basic servicing and what not for the car myself, so if anyone would like to help me out with this I would be very grateful.

Hey all, just wanted to give a shout out to all the experienced hyundai owners out there and hope that I'd be able to learn a thing or two from y'all.
I bought a hyundai elantra GLS model at around September 2009 in Toronto, since winter was just around the corner i postponed any modifications on the car until summer.
So far all I've done on the car was getting it tinted, rust proofed and all that jazz. I am currently interested in looking for some halo or angel eye headlights and some custom-made tail lights.
If anyone can give me some hints or leads on these things I'd greatly appreciate it...( I am also very interested int he INCUS body kit, but i stumble on another forum that it isn't available anymore:( any info on this would be greatly appreciated )

Greetings!
A few hours ago I purchased a PRISTINE '08 Elantra SE with just 9,500 miles in the Boston area. Apple Red Pearl/Black interior, spoiler (which is rare, it seems?).
I'm not new to cars or to car forums (I also drive a G35 Coupe), but I'm new to the Hyundai family. All the research I did online and from others opinions leads me to believe Hyundai's are quite reliable and a good bargain. The car is mostly for my girlfriend, but it had to be sporty enough for me to enjoy riding it as well. The SE handles very well!
Here's a look at it -
Hoping you guys can help...
I'm having trouble sorting through the forums here - '07-10 Elantra's are there own generation (the 2nd gen?). Is there no sub-forum on ElantraClub that categorizes threads by year/generation?
I'm looking for a mod that will give me USB functionality like the 09's and up have. I want to be able to control the iPod through the steering wheel controls?
I'm also looking to upgrade the speaker system - I see someone had success with some Polk upgrades for the rear. What other recommendations are out there?
Thanks in advance!
-Brian

Hey, I'm Dave, I'm not new to Elantra's, but I am to these forums. My first car was a 2005 silver Elantra GT automatic hatchback, and to this day its the best car I've driven. I started saving up for a car when I was 15, and by the time I was going to go to college I had about $8,500 saved up and I bought the Elantra from the same dealership my dad bought his Odyssey from.
I unfortunately don't have it anymore, There was a guy going down the wrong way on a one way street, the SUV in front of me stomped on his brakes, and I was following him a bit too closely, and I went under his bumper. It bent my frame, and trashed other things under the hood, and totalled it, and I had only had it for two and a half months. Since then I've drove two relatively worthless vehicles (a crappy 1987 toyota pick-up, and a 1993 Honda Civic that looks like a 6 yr old tried rewiring it), and I'm trying to get a job so I can save up for another one.
So yeah, hi

Just wanted to introduce myself. I just bought a new 2010 Elantra GLS with automatic transmission in Nordic White today. It is replacing my 2003 Honda Accord that was totalled a week ago today in a bad car crash. I was torn between the Elantra and the Sonata, but decided on the Elantra because my children are grown and it is usually just me in the car so I thought I'd go a little smaller, get better gas mileage, etc. I love my Elantra! I don't feel that it is that much smaller than my Accord.
I live in Orlando where it is very hot most of the year so went with the GLS. I didn't feel that I really needed a moonroof or heated seats, etc. I have a new Gharmin already so didn't want to spend the extra money on the Navigation system. The only thing about my Elantra that I'm not thrilled with is the seat upholstery, but that seems like a small thing. It looks like it might stain easily so I'm thinking about getting seat covers for the front seats.
Just wanted to say Hi and that I'm glad I found this forum. I think that I got a good deal here in Orlando so if anyone is shopping for an Elantra in this area, feel free to communicate with me and I'll tell you where I bought it and what I paid.

Hi All,
Thought I'd take some time to say hello to you all and introduce myself
My name is Dann and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I have just purchased a 2001MY (10/2000, thats right, the very first of them) Elantra GLS hatch, Parrot Blue in colour. For its age and mileage (128000km/79500mi) its in pretty good shape aside from minor paint imperfections and scratches and a near worn clutch, and the interior is near new.
Nothing really planned in the way of mods for the moment aside from replacing the clutch, repainting the bonnet and roof; a set of 16" or 17" mags, a nice exhaust, some minor suspension work, and maybe some brightwork in the interior.
Some pics:
I look forward getting to know you all

I recently purchased a 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS with the popular pkg(2 weeks ago). I was looking for an Elantra forum to join and this one looked the best. I really like what this car has to offer, the standard safety features are a no-brainer plus a lot accessories for a fair price. Ultimately the choice came down to cost, but I don't think I am sacrificing quality with the lower price. Stability control was mandatory for me and my family so the Honda Civic was ruled out. With the Civic you had to purchase the EX-L to get ESC plus we wanted the utility of a hatch. The Mazda 3 we already have (a 2009 HB) it is a nice car, drives and handles very well, but it doesn't have the space or the great price. The VW's (golf)I am afraid of because of maintenance costs, expense, and reliability horror stories. The Dodge Caliber; enough said on that front. The Honda Fit same deal as the civic you had to move up in price to get the ESC. The Matrix I drove and really didn't like it very much.
I almost bought the Touring last year, but Hyundai's old reputation scared me away, we bought the Mazda 3 instead. This year I had time to research and IMO the Hyundai Elantra Touring beats out it's other competitors on the whole. I lined up and compared the Mazda, VW, Honda, and Toyota with the Touring and when you look at all the specs, road tests, and accessories, and expected reliability the Touring wins. Overall it was to good of a car to pass up at that price.
I hope they are right on the reliability side of the ledger, if the are Hyundai is poised to move up the ladder.

Howdy Everyone, Ruben here from Laredo and I am new to this forum. I have a question concerning my daughter's 1998 Hyundai Elantra:
Her car was broken into and the dashboard center console part where the radio goes was ripped and broken. It's the part that holds the radio and a/c knobs/hazard flasher switch etc in place. I was wondering how expensive is it to get a replacement part please and if there are alternatives for a replacement OEM part?
And also, if anyone has any clue where I can start looking to find the Input/Output Transmission speed sensor? I need to replace that as well. Otherwise she should be good to go. We have done this so far in the past year:
Rebuilt the Transmission
New Timing Chain
New fan belt
New battery
New platinum plugs/wires
New Pirreli tires all around
New Compact Disc with Remote (stock speakers though)
I figure we have too much in the car (we bought it used for our daughter) the paint is straight with no dents, shiny black but the interior could use a good cleaning although it is intact with no cuts. I am taking it over as she no longer wants it and so I figure I can use it for work as a 4 cyl engine it will save me a ton on fuel. Only 100K miles on her, I hope to get another 100K (heck if I get 50K miles more I'll be happy).
Cheers and thank you all for this forum!

So while I'm out of town next week my brother is taking my car ('02) to my mechanic to replace my timeing belt 'cause I'm over 80,000miles and haven't changed it yet.
The mechanic is charging the stuff for the belt (which google said the timeing belt kit is around $200?) + $45 an hour...
About how long does this normally take? I don't know how much I should get out of the bank for my brother to pay the guy...
Thanks

Good afternoon fellow Elantranians.
I own a 2008 GLS. It has about 38,000 miles on it. The other night my husband and I were out doing some shopping and we noticed that there was some squealing coming from the front right brakes. I travel about 30 miles (mostly stop and go) a day to and from work. I do know how hard you brake plays a role in the wear and tear of your brakes but since we're obviously going to need to replace them soon, can anyone advise me as to what type of brakes work best and last longer.
Thank you!

Hi all. Some noob questions about oil.
-If the engine needs a top up, would using oil of a slightly different viscosity have any ill effect?
-What difference does different viscosities make, in terms of performance, efficiency, etc?
-How fast should engine oil be depleted, and why does it?
-Does a 2.0L engine mean it needs 2.0L of oil?
Thanks for all replies.

Does anyone know how this car handles on gravel/dirt roads? I have to take a trip to an area where I will be driving back roads(no off-roading of course).
I am worried about the suspension and of course flying rocks. My driving style is slow and cautious, I won't be doing any rally driving with this car. I was thinking about getting the mud-flaps installed plus if I can afford it the the front-end protector(the black bra).Any insight or help on this matter would be appreciated.
Thanks...

Recently purchased an Elantra SLX this seems to line up with the HD in USA. Hopefully my membership can be of mutual benefit.
My last car was a Toyota Corolla which gave very good service for over 150000 km (93 k miles ) and no mechanical problems, original brake pads 50% worn.
Chose Elantra over Corolla as a replacement. hope this proves a wise choice. Noted Elantra sales increasing here.

Ok, so I have a 2010 Elantra SE and I have a Iphone 3G. My issue is this. I wanted to get the special cable to use my phone and play my mp3's through the control panel. However, when I got into the car all excited- it didn't work. There was the beeping/on off USB tango, and then the inevitable error message.... The dealer's head mechanic said that that's been happening all day- to three other customers, with ipods and iphones etc... My USB cable also does not work(no charge/read NADA).. so am I stuck with just the Aux cable and audio out from the phone or what??? Please help!

So I'm hearing the buzz about the 2011 Elantra. Very exciting. But I was planning to buy a new car around the end of this year (if the Geo keeps running that long), and I'm wondering if I should wait for the 2011 or go ahead and take the 2010. I'm considering both the sedan and touring versions.
I figure I should be able to get a pretty good deal on a 2010 after the 2011s come out. But I plan to keep this next car for a very long time, so I don't want to be penny-wise and pound-foolish.
Supposedly, the 2011 is expected to come with the "theta" engine. But I have no idea what that means. Can someone break it down for me? I'm not a motor-head, but I do know where the gas, oil, and water go.
What makes the theta better than the beta in the current Elantra? Will it be more reliable? Last longer? Give better gas milage? Lower maintenance cost?
Cheers,
-Brian*
