Installed this unit into my 2007 Elantra yesterday replacing the Pioneer DEH-P9850BT I had in there. The new unit fully supports my iPhone with a Parrot bluetooth kit built-in and of course can playback video from the iPod/iPhone on the large 7" touch screen.
Comparison of new and old:
Installation was pretty straight-forward but still took most of the day to get right. I cut the IR sender off my existing PAC SWI-X for the steering wheel controls and put a mono 3.5mm plug on it instead to plug into the back of the Alpine. I also ran the microphone cable up inside the driver's side A pillar and clipped the microphone to the top so it was closer. The bluetooth works great with my iPhone, even voice dialling.
The only hiccup with installation was having to take a hammer to the metal piece that is directly under the unit shown in the pic below.
It was slightly too high so I had to bang it to bend it down a bit. It was also a tight fit cramming the entire tail of 15 RCA plugs into a cavity in the dash just to use two of them for my sub.
The surround used is the American Metra double DIN mounting kit that I've reused from my old deck. I had to attack it pretty severely with a Dremel when I first got it to get it to fit right as the shape of the Aussie model is a fair bit different to the US one. Unfortunately it warped in the extreme heat last summer (got up to at least 50c in the car parked in the sun one day) so looks like I'll have to do it all over again.
Some more photos:
More info on the unit:

Although the real proof is in listening to the system , it's still fun to see what kind of audio/video our members have put together in their Elantra. Post photos and detailed information here for others to check out!

Alrighty all, here it is, the complete OE-supplied Kenwood listing for the XD/XD2.
Head Units:
00271-84000 Black Kenwood H/U, unit/remote only, MSRP $460
00271-84001 Black Kenwood H/U, complete+04XDGT door housing, MSRP $480
00271-13000 Silver Kenwood H/U, unit/remote only, MSRP $388
Install Kits:
00273-13000 doorless housing [see pics below], MSRP $16
00271-84004 04XDGT door housing, MSRP $39.50
00273-03000 Wiring extension adapter - harness-to-h/u, MSRP $10
Speaker Sets:
00271-14002 XD front speakers 6.5", MSRP $97.50
00271-14001 XD hatch rear 6.5", MSRP $97.50
00271-14000 XD sedan rear 6x9", MSRP $114.50
Note on rear speakers: Hyundai uses a connector similar to the rear trunklight's for rear speakers. Hatch spkr set, at least, comes with the front door connector in most cases. Easiest conversion for it is to get some 14-16 gauge, or 10-12 gauge uninsulated spade connectors, remove any/all plastic, and solder them in place of the stock speaker's connector. Front doors are completely plug n play.

I just bought a 2008 elantra GLS. 5 speed manual with power windows/locks/mirrors/upgrade 6 speaker stereo, factory keyless entry/alarm, etc.. etc..
Love the car so far, but noticed something irritating.
When I lock the doors with the key fob, and then hit the button again where the horn honks, I noticed this weekend that randomly the alarm will go off and the lights will flash and horn honk. If I just hit the button once and lock the doors, I don't have the problem. But I noticed the alarm going off randomly several times this weekend and its kind of irritating.
Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong?

So I've found myself with some spare time and I decided to look into building a car PC for my Elantra. Taking inspiration from sarge's thread (
here) and countless install threads over at mp3car.com, this is the plan:
Functionality:
-GPS Navigation
-Sirius Satellite Radio integration
-OBDII engine diagnostics info
-Music, video playback
-Internet browser through WIFI
-Handsfree Bluetooth phone support?
My goal is to keep this all under $400. The main components (screen, computer) will be taken out of a netbook, an Acer Aspire One to be exact (cost second-hand: $170). I've also ordered an eBay touch screen for about $60 which should arrive soon.
Here's picture of the Acer netbook completely disassembled:
The netbook has an 8.9" Glossy screen. I'm hoping the addition of the touchscreen over top will make it appear more "matte" and not glare so much in the sunlight. Fortunately the motherboard on this thing is quite small which should make fitting it behind the dash fairly easy. This is a rough idea of where the screen will sit:
Part of the dash fascia will have to be cut so it looks like I'll have to do a little bondo/fibreglass work (which I've never done before). The ash tray and cigarette lighter will be cut out to make room for the HVAC. I've decided to keep 1 DIN slot for my Kenwood headunit; the reason for this is I still have an actual volume knob this way (rather than fooling around with sound levels via touchscreen). Plus I don't have to worry about a separate amp.
Anyway that's all the work I've done for now. I'm waiting on the touchscreen and then I'll get the software all figured out before I start cutting up the dash. Any comments/input/suggestions are appreciated!

New to this forum and new to Hyundai. My wife just bought a 2010 Elantra and I want to relocate the Ipod interface so the Ipod is inside the pocket just above the ash tray. Just curious if anyone has done this mod as I have been unable to find a thread about it. If there is a thread, please kindly point me in the right direction. Otherwise I am going to venture into the unknown and just do it. Maybe get some documentation added the the site for others.

So I had the urge to go out and get a new deck since the stock one skipped a couple cds.. and why not just use mp3s anyways?
I got myself a JVC KD-G430 and as it stands/sits right now I've got the harness all soldered together and ready to plug in tomorrow on my lunch break... yeap, probably gonna do it then. - only missing the final taping and zip-tying (forgot to buy those)
I was debating on a Sony that had a USB plug upfront, but it looked kinda shabby, so I'll stick with the plain aux input for my g/f's iPod when she's in the car on trips.

I wanted to install a head unit that is bigger than the J size factory stereo. I think it would fit if I used the stero space, as well as the storage compartment located below. Does anyone have experience with removing the peice of dash in between to create a larger head unit area? any advice?

Hello all, noob here.
first car first car forum lol.
well i just bought a 01 elantra and need sound upgrade.*
i was going to just replace everything, HU and all 4 speakers.
after some reading i found that that is not the best of ideas.
i chose this as a setup:
Back speakers wanted good bass and saw that these have a low FR of 28Hz and 28kHz high
Front speakerssame reason as rear ones good FR range
HUpicked this HU for the HD radio and the fact that it has no radio preset buttons so gf can't change the station every 2 seconds like she like to do lol...
after some reading i see now that i will need an amp.
i would love for the total price of the equipment to stay as close to $300 as possible.
so now to the point of all this. i want suggestions on an amp and everything else. advise, point, teach me!
*= car has cassette deck lol and that won't do. back speakers are buzzing at low volumes . need better front speakers cause that's where i will be lol so dont tell me to get HU ad keep speakers cause i cant.......

Hi folks!
Yet another Canadian newbie here with a few questions for you. I picked up a 2009 Elantra GL a few months ago and slowly but surely have been customizing it to my needs. It's my daily driver so I'm not going overboard but I want to add a few things to it. I'm an OEM guy and like to keep it that way. I find aftermarket can lead to headaches and usually fitment issues. So far I've added some OEM window visors and picked up a set of OEM wheels to mount my summer tires on.
The next thing on my list is to find a way to get OEM satellite radio into my car. After searching around with several local audio shops today and visiting my local (but unhelpful) dealer, I was unable to find an OEM solution. My 2009 Elantra GL did not come with an "XM ready" head unit and for me to buy one from the dealer is $1500!! I do not want an aftermarket deck, but rather want to know if the OEM decks from the US model of this car come "XM Ready".
If anyone knows the answer to that question, and where I might be able to find a used deck, that would be awesome! I know the Elantra Touring up here comes with an XM ready deck, but nothing on the Elantra GL unless I bend over and take one from the dealer.
Here's a pic of my toy (when I'm not driving the Elantra)

So after 4 years, I'm finally putting a system in my car. One of my friends needed some money, so they sold me a
Rockford Fosgate P8004 amp for $250. So now...what to do with it? My goal isn't the blow everyone out of the water with it...just looking for a decent upgrade over stock.
I've had the
Sony CDS-GT520 headunit for a few years now. So no need for a new headunit.
At the very least, I'd like to upgrade my front door speakers. The guys at exd recommended the
Phoenix Gold RSD65cs package for a great price to performance ratio. I might get
these, if I can get a price on them (they are brand new)
I'm also thinking of getting something like the
Bazooka 8" or 10" bass tube, since I want to still be able to use my cargo space. I got the hatch for practical purposes, and I don't really want to use that.
I'm thinking I'll also need a new battery since I'm still running on my stock. My question is, should I get an Optima red top or yellow top? I've heard that yellow tops aren't good for starting and they can have problems with cold weather. Would a larger battery fit the bill if it were a yelllow top? Being in WI, it obviously gets very cold. Or maybe I should get a
Odyssey dry-cell battery. or possibly a Stinger dry cell. I'm new to car audio (beyond the basic head unit swap), so any suggestions are welcome.

I just bought some blank CD-RW's and whenever I put it in, it just spits it out saying error.
Is it because it doesn't accept it or did I do something wrong?

my M6 sub just died. I have been running int on a single voice coil for about a year now. I was running it (its a dual 2ohm) in series so it was 4ohm mono.
i have an email into diamond audio...maybe i can get it refurbished? or just a buy a new one! they have a newer version of the same sub, so i would not need to change amps or even change the box. it would just drop right in.

So I went to the audio store today with my 2009. I purchased a new deck and amplifier and left the car for the install. A couple of hours later the store called to say that there was no dash kit for it, only one for a touring and one for a radio delete option, none for one with a Hyundai radio installed. Can anyone help me find a dash kit?
The deck is an Alpine CDE103 BT.
Thanks.

Hi all! First time posting.
I bought myself an 07 Elantra and i absoultely love it! Although i need an LCD dvd player.
I came across this site
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=150432822440 and i was just wondering if anyone has bought and installed one of these before?? And if so, what do you think about it? Is it worth its price? Was it hard to install etc etc?
I would like a dvd player with the GPS and bluetooth all-in-one which is why this one stood out the most.
The site also mentions that the product is for the 2008-2010 Elantra, but i could swear that is the same unit as 07 one. Could someone clarify this please?
Alot of questions for the first time, i know lol. But i really need some advice before spending big bucks on it.
Thanx for your help.

I have a 2010 Elantra Touring and I am hoping for a bit of help on installing an amp in my car. I am reasonably familiar with installing car audio equipment, but I have some questions about running the power wire for the amp. My car has a nice black cap over the positive battery terminal that has a little loop where the factory battery cables run through, then on the under-hood fuse box the wires again are nicely contained and just barely fit under the cover.
I am only installing a small amp in the back (~600W RMS) so I was only planning to run a #4 power wire for it, however I don't see any places I can connect this without messing up some of the factory power cable mounting.
In the past I have always been able to find an empty spot in the fuse panel so I could simply upgrade the battery / alternator-->fuse panel wire, and then install a 50A or 60A fuse in an empty space within the fuse panel and run my power wire with all the factory wiring wherever I needed to go. However there are no empty spaces in my fuse panel. Every single one is filled even the little ones. So far my plan is this:
Remove the factory battery->fuse box wire, replace it (appears to be #6) with a #2 wire, then when I attach the end of it to the fuse panel attach my #4 wire directly underneath and try to pull the existing wires to each side a bit to make room for my wire to fit under the cover. This may or may not fit nicely under the cover. I hate ever cutting factory parts on a new (or very nearly new) car, so I am looking for a cleaner way to run this wire since I suspect I will have to cut part of the fuse box cover off to run my wiring this way.

I have a 2010 Elantra GLS.
I need to tap into both right & left rear speaker wiring.
Can anyone tell me the color codes for all 4 wires, and possibly were to tap into them.
I was looking to do so by the front door/s for easiest access, or if someone knows a more convenient place?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys. We're shopping for cars and came across a lightly used '06 with the stock Hyundai CD player head unit... but the backlight on the little LCD display is on permanently, even with the car off, the key out... it won't shut off. It's pretty much the only thing wrong with the car, which is great, but I'm afraid it'll slowly drain the battery and burn out the display, so it has to be fixed.
I hope it's a simple fix behind the head unit, or at least a problem with the head unit itself which I can swap out. But I'm concerned it's a symptom of someone reinstalling that OEM unit with the wrong ground and I'd find a butchered mess of wiring back there. So, anyone had this problem before? Does it sound like an internal head unit problem, or a wiring problem, and how bad do you have to screw up for that to happen to a stock head unit?
