I was also thinking of cleaning up my engine bay, but I wasn't sure about using water. Should I cover up wire connections before I wash it off? Or will it be fine just the way it is?

Use grocery bags and cover the alternator, battery, MAF, and coil packs. Then use a hose to rinse the engine, then soak engine with an engine cleaner, scrub dirty areas with a brush, then rinse, then drive around for 10-15 min to dry engine, then wax plastic trim with engine wax.

everyone says to do those things..... but you drive your car through snow and water. none have any real effect. i know i dont bother covering them at all - my ECU is even in the engine bay!

Nice to see my post still kinda active after some time. Yes. That's how I did it: covered critical electrical areas with plastic bags.
Today, I cleaned the interior (well most of it - have to do the floor mats tomorrow), and detailed a bit after a long time. Stoner's glass cleaner for glass. Einszett (1Z) Cockpit Premium for dash / console / trim... ...Still looks pretty ok for having almost 215k miles, I think. -------------------- 03 GLS
