Since we've been asking about folks activities with their crooked-H wearing rides, why not ask about their brethren?

As for me, today I put new front rotors and pads on the wife's Rio. Passenger side went pretty smoothly, but I had to buy an impact driver to get the screws out of the rotor on the driver's side. Might be the easiest parts of the car to work on. After I got done, took it for a test drive (stops FANTASTIC now) and bumped up the tire pressures. Really need to get a set of alloys for that car.

Changed the oil in the Rio this morning. Only managed to get a little on the garage floor taking off the old filter. Can't wait to get my own place and (hopefully) find some ramps that'll fit under the nose of both cars. Ought to make getting under a rain-sodden vehicle a little less of a chore.

Replaced the cabin air filter... old one was yucky!!! I went OEM for this one, as I couldn't remember the one I bought at the time... Turns out it was the Purolator Breathe Easy C45384. $40 and change out the door for some cleaner air! Next time, I'll go back to the Purolator, since it can be had much cheaper with the AA discounts.

Have the paints bought, and should have the time on Saturday to at least paint either the wheels or the wheel covers. I plan to take off each wheel, thoroughly clean it, scuff it a little, and repaint them black. Then, as mentioned before, clean, scuff, and repaint each wheel cover with silver and then clearcoat. I'll document my process and take pictures, and make it into a DIY if it hasn't already been done, and if they turn out alright.

In keeping with the "headlights are burning out everywhere" theme, I had to put a new bulb in the passenger side headlight on the wife's car. She managed to get stopped on her way home from her mom's last night.

Going to change the oil filter on the wife's ride. Yes, since it's so nice out, it's a "work on the cars" day. If I thought I'd have time, there'd be washing/claying/waxing going on as well, but I don't see it being in the cards.

My Forte SX got an oil change using 5w20 Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic and an OEM filter. Also had the tires rotated.

I filled up my gas tanks and got some new shoes! Mounted some Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 tires. Man, do these things roll!

24 individual LEDs each side just looks solid in the pics. If you look at the daylight pic you can see the design better.

Well Ive been busy on the Optima i replaced the audio system with a Chinese 8inch touch screen with Nav,bluetooth,Ipod,etc,etc keeping all the steering wheel controls. Then added Kicker KS65 speakers in all 4 doors and Rockford Fossgatge 10 inch sub with Inferno 1500 watt amp. Sirius sat radio. Backup camera. Remote start with EVO ALL module allowing me to use just the standard key fob no need to carry both. Tomorrow my brand new Hyundai Genesis Coupe 18 inch wheels are scheduled to be delivered with new Bridgestone rubber staggered 225/45 up front and 245/45 in the rear. Also added stainless door sills with stainless pedals on the way. Ill post pics soon as the wheels are on. Waiting on coil overs it needs a slight drop and i thought why just go with lowering springs. Front strut bar is being powder coated hope to have it late this week. This car has been amazing and gets so much attention its unreal.

PS: The 17 inch wheels and tires seen in my pics will be up for sale soon, tires have 4k on them they are Nexens ill post specs and prices as soon as i swap them out. Should be a straight swap to any Hyundai product with the 5 x114.3 bolt pattern even hub size is the same.

Do it they are $79 painted and took less than a week to arrive. Mitch turned me on to them while back. Also got my lip spoiler from them and the paint match is dead on and my color has a heavy metalic.

Bought new rims and tires for the wife's ride. MB Wheels Sprites in 14x6 and a full set (this time) of Falken Sincera SN828 tires. Updated her garage, too.

Installed a new front engine mount. Took about 30 minutes once I had all the tools I needed and the car was in the air. Less than $50 shipped, thanks to RockAuto!

Changed the oil and filter in the wife's Rio. Finally got to use the creeper my mother-in-law got me for Christmas last year along with the http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php?autocom=review&CODE=03&id=383 I just got for my birthday from my folks. Made it SO much easier to get under the car and get AT the $*%@# oil filter. Also discovered that, not only does O'Reilly recycle oil, they do filters as well. Just wish we could get them on the affiliate program.

Looking forward to many more uses of those wonderful gifts.

I added a layer of Klasse Sealant Glaze. I'll do another layer of that and top it with some carnauba wax. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Washed the Forte SX after a few months of neglect. Detailed some of the trim work and added a layer of Klasse AIO.

Still need to do the interior, engine bay and glass. Then I'll add a couple layers of Poorboy's EX sealant.

I installed my first visible mod:




Added a bike carrier because I got tired of breaking down the front/rear tires to stuff it in the trunk every time.

A couple weeks back I changed oil, trans fluid and trimmed the ram air intake. They have a lip that curves downward ~1/4" to close off the inlet. I merely trimmed it back to where the hood seal meets it so it still pulls in outside cooler air. No pics of that because it looks stock still....

I'm currently (okay, not right now but it's ongoing) elbow-deep in rear brakes/bearings on the Rio. Let me be frank here:

I FREAKIN' HATE DRUM BRAKES WITH THE FIERY PASSION OF A THOUSAND SUNS!!@#@$!@#~!11@ONE

It was typically hard to get the left drum off (that's as far as I am), and the c-clip holding the parking brake arm disintegrated trying to get it apart. Had to use a punch to get the arm out of the shoe. Ordered a new hardware kit and got new inner and outer bearings and grease seals for the inners. Will have to attack it again in the morning once the hardware comes in... just too tired and sore (unexplained knot in my neck/right shoulder).

Who has suggestions for extracting old/pressing in new bearing races? I'm thinking screwdriver/hammer to remove the old and socket/rag/mallet to install.

A big thanks to the local O'Reilly Auto for having a big gear puller to help with getting the passenger's side drum off. Got all the wheel bearings swapped out (races looked good, so I left those in) and new grease seals for the inners, plus new shoes and adjusters all around. So glad that's done... on to non-Kia/Hyundai fun stuff to fight with (yay, redoing switches in the bathroom!).

Recently, I've installed a new alternator and accessory belts. Tonight, the fun this car's been bringing me just spiked again: the exhaust broke at the flex pipe, and it turns out that whatever hangers the center pipe had busted too. So the whole system from aft of the flex pipe ended up dragging for a little ways as my wife was pulling out of the parking lot where she works. Ended up cutting the insulators on the muffler and the pipe just forward of the bend to get over the torsion beam. The coup de grace on that move was that the studs on the muffler flange broke as I tried to pull it through, but we needed the extra piece cut off so we could fit it into hourang's Suburban (thanks again, Jeff!).

Ordered new exhaust parts through Rock Auto (thanks for the discount code!) and hopefully they'll ship early this week. If I have to install it myself, I will... and save all the labor costs. But I'm hoping I can get a bit of a deal on labor and have someone put the car on a lift and install it.

Still working on putting in the new exhaust, but it should be on the car this afternoon. Found out that the bracket where the hanger on the resonator attaches comes off via 2 bolts. Would've been nice to know before I mutilated the old hanger with an air hammer and cutoff wheel.

Took a while to get all the various parts for the exhaust, too... Rock Auto was out of both mufflers, but didn't know about it until after I'd ordered. Everything else came from there (resonator, center pipe, insulators and gaskets) and shipped quickly.

FINALLY got the exhaust on the car. Got it all hung only to discover that the one stud remaining on the cat was too chewed to hold a nut. Cut it off/drilled it out and replaced it with a bolt/washer/nut combo. Got it all back together (YAY, AIR TOOLS!!) and it's no louder now than it was pre-exhaust-fall-off. VICTORY! Which means, VICTORY BEER AND TIGERS BASEBALL!

Replaced the front pads on the Rio. It's been 2.5 years on the old pads, and I think I forgot to put anti-seize on the slider pins when I did them last time. The outers were in great shape, but the inners were shot. That, and I absolutely tightened the SNOT out of the caliper bolts.

On a bad side note, I think the regulator on my compressor died. How much fun do you suppose *THAT* might be to take care of?

The tab that attaches the door actuator to the handle on the driver's door broke off yesterday. I'm trying to use JB Kwik to fix it, but it's fighting me. On the other hand, I can have the door apart in under 5 minutes. I might have to get a hold of a junkyard in Toledo to get a replacement, if I can't fix this one. They've actually got one that's silver... no repainting necessary!

I should see if they have a carbon canister while I'm at it...

Adhesives are letting me down, so I ordered a new handle through Parts Train (via Affiliate link). Working on procuring some silver spray paint as well so I can paint it to "match." Very disappointed in the JB products I tried for this.

Found out that you can get coded paint for your car mixed in a spray can... at least, you can at the paint shop right here in town: http://www.bulletdistributors.com/index.asp They mixed a can of Kia Diamond Silver in about 15 minutes. Applied 3 coats of that to the new handle, along with 2 coats of clear. Going to let it dry overnight and install it tomorrow morning. Might even use the remaining spray to cover up a big ding in the rear bumper where someone backed into it.

Got the new door handle installed. Took about 15 minutes from starting to remove the door panel to putting it back on, but I did have to take part of the handle apart to get it through the door; the pivot that doesn't have the actuator attached had a longer pivot pin than the old one. Fortunately, it's only held on by a c-clip.

New handle is plastic, not metal, so I was a bit bummed by that, but the paint went on easily and looks reasonably like the old stuff. Door opens and closes like it's supposed to, but the action is a bit higher than I think the old one was. Don't think that's adjustable, but it works and that's what counts.

Oh yeah... I'll try to post pics when I get around to snapping them.

Ordered a replacement door handle for the front passenger's side... imagine that the damn handles would both break within 2 weeks of each other. At least I still have paint for the new one. Also ordered some spray adhesive to repair/replace the trim on the passenger side. The little front piece came off and the one on the door is peeling away.
