Kia has announced their Coupe concept will replace the Kia Spectra in mid 2009. That's surprisingly soon, IMO, and they haven't released the full specs yet and we're just one year away. The concept had a 290hp Turbo Theta 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. That's pretty ridiculous for what's almost certainly a front-drive car. I think just 150-160hp would help it compete with the Scion tC, make it cheap, reliable and fuel-efficient. Just make it look good, handle well and it doesn't have to be a drag-racer for under $20k, hopefully.

290hp is a fair jump for the Spectra...
I really do like the Coupe, wish the Elantra/I30 would come out with a bit more power

It's gonna be interesting to see how much they change the coupe before releasing it.

Just because the concept has a 290-hp turbo-4 doesn't mean all Kia Coupes will. That my just be the top engine where a 150-hp non-turbo engine is base.

Think of the SRT-4 or the Cobalt SS (supercharged and turbocharged versions). They are both FWD coupes with 200+ hp. Both have lower powered, N/A base engines.

Now that you mention it, it does. Kind of a cross between a civic and an accord.

The only thing "hardcore" about a Civic is fuel economy!

This car is perfect for the late teen, early 20 something who wants to be 2 fast and 2 furious on a budget. You'll look the part, you just won't be fast but you will sound like you are!"
