Also keep in mind that these cars don't get their best mileage until they reach 5-10k miles on the odometer either. So your first 4 or 5 tankfulls will definately be lower than the overall average.

air temp has nothing to with gas density. most modern stations store their gas in tanks well underground, and i was told numerous times that the temp down that low averages about 50-60 degrees. filling up at 3 am when its 20 degrees out wont do much at all, because its still about 55 in the storage tank.

I know you're trying to help but this thread is over 2 years old and the last post was made more than a year ago: Therad started = Sep 1 2005, 01:20 AM Last post previous to yours = Jun 5 2006, 08:16 PM This post has been edited by NovaResource: Sep 6 2007, 07:29 AM -------------------- NovaResource: E-Club's #1 A-hole. Meh. Doesn't really matter how old it is - it's pinned and as a result it's one of the first posts new members see. He had something relevant to add and he did. Personally, I think it's nice to see new forum members posting over 9 posts per day (especially when they're useful).
Anyway, I have nothing useful to add to this thread, I just want to make sure that moonlite knows his input is appreciated. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Absolutely. Pinned threads or any thread in that matter are still open unless closed. As new members come aboard new information is gathered.

#5 and #12 are false.
#5 Each 0.3 bar increase in tire pressure reduces rolling resistance by 7%. #12 Accelerating like a granny is almost the worst you can do. The goal is to get to you cruising speed in the shortest distance as possible without going WOT or in open loop. Under acceleration, a loaded engine is an efficient engine. Under steady state cruising conditions though, you want the lowest load possible (highest vacuum possible). -------------------- A proud member of the club.

This best way to save gas is to simply drive less. How many times do you drive when you really could just walk or ride your bike? It is also good excercise.

funny how when the thread started it was upper $2 for gas. wouldn't that be absolutely wonderful now? i like the idea of planning more when running errands- go to stores closer together and don't drive far across town just to pick up a couple items.
gas prices suck, but it's nice to see/hear people trying to do creative things to make it not in as much demand. i'd be happy to see low $3s ongoing. we'll see. great forum! eric -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the XP3 fuel additive? Everything I've read about it says it's amazing, it's supposed to reduce fuel consumption, disperse water, improve combustion and reduce fumes and toxic emissions. I would just like to know if anyone has anything bad to say about it before I start adding it to my fuel. If no one does, then I'll use it every fill up and let everyone know how it does for me...

I try to get all of my running done instead of making multiple trips. I like driving around with my sunroof open on nice days. I get about 21-23 mpg. Guess depends on how many trips I make through the week. I usually don't have to fill up but once a week, if I put $20 here or there then its twice a week I do that.

I have a 1-hour commute. Because I know the routes so well, I have learned the light patterns to optimize my travel time. My best trick for saving on gas is coasting toward red lights to avoid stopping. I've learned the timing of the many lights, I watch other intersection lights, and even look out for the pedestrian crossing signs as indications of light changes ahead of time. I succeed most of the time in not having to stop.

I just drive between 55 and 60 on the highway, and keep the oil clean. Helps me get 35+ MPG on a gas tank.
