Ok, so I was led to believe that the only differences between the two, mechanically, were...
1) disc brakes on GT
2) thicker stabilizer bars on GT
3) Stiffer springs and struts

Are there any other mechanical differences?

i believe there is something different about the steering rack. on the GT it is mounted directly to the frame, whereas on the GLS it is mounted via insulators. supposedly it gives better steering feedback, but i think it also transmits a lot more road noise through the steering system.

Maybe you don't consider this mechanical confused-scratchhead3.gif but the GLS's have steel rims that are 5.5" wide where the GT has alloys that are 6" wide.

I was just wondering, cause i recently had a tie-rod replaced; I don't know what would be sporty about a tie rod, but i wanted to make sure there weren't "special" tie rods for the GT's i know i worry about stupid things like that, but that is just my personality... smile.gif Do you guys think Hyundai makes it mandatory for dealers to replace GT parts with GT parts, or do you think sometimes they get sloppy and put replacement GLS parts in place for GT parts?

Are we talking sedan or hatchback. My wifes GLS hatchback I think has basicly the same setup as my GT. I know it dosen't have leather, allowy rims, and some other minnor things, but the heart and sool is the same. Am I right or wrong?

It is my understanding that the GLS hatchback has the GT suspension, and that Hyundai did this is reaction to the additional weight from the hatch body style. Don't quote me on that, but I think that is the case. Oh, the GLS hatch does come with 4-wheel disc brakes.

In addition to the obvious like the rear wiper and black side molding on the GLS hatch it also adds as standard over the sedan:
  • Sport Tuned Power Rack and Pinion Steering (from the GT)
  • Sport Suspension (from the GT)
  • Front/Rear Disks
So the reality is the GLS hatch will handle similarly to the GT hatch. I mean they have the same tires but the GT wears 6" wheels. The GT hatch is mostly a feature upgrade (leather, better radio, fogs, spoiler, alloys) over the '05 GLS hatch.

I think the steering ratio was slightly quicker (3.5 vs 4) on the GT. I assume the GLS hatch has the same steering setup now. The wider rims can have some influence on handling even with the same tires.
Anyway, I would trust the dealership to not interchange GT/GLS parts in the few places where they are not equal.
