Crazy. What're you going to be doing for her? Also - didn't you JUST get a full-time position?

Marc, your elections in October will generate a blurb on page A13 of the NY Times. Meanwhile the front page will be about the latest mud slung in the apparently world-wide spectator sport that is the US presidential election. Never mind that you guys are our #1 trade partner and our next-door neighbors. I'd love to read up on the Canadian politics as an alternative to the sound-bite drivel that is US politics.

And Joe, is this a weekend volunteer gig, or a real job?

After doing some reading on Dion, he seems like a guy I'd want to have running things. If he keeps his trap shut, that is. Good for him to prevent the expansion of police powers. Not a fan of the major proponent of the Green Shift, although it does promise to be progressive in its implementation.

I work at Elections Canada. 533.gif You should see how much money is wasted for an election. Now, if we could just decide on a majority that would save a shit load of our tax dollars. But I don't think that will happen with what is running...

$300 million bucks per election... and that's just counting ballots, not party spend... Don't worry it will come out to close to what we have now. Or a Harper majority...

I'm volunteering about 9 hours a week plus 1 weekend day a month. I work from about 7am-6pm at my main squeeze job, then I bomb down to the campaign office from 7pm - 9pm.

I've been wondering. How big of an undertaking is it to get an election up and running? I mean, do you guys start things going as soon as there's even a whimper of an election call?

Just curious. Any reason you chose this MP in particular? That is, is she the MP for your riding - or do you have particular attachment to her politics?

Yep! So all those elections scares in the past cost LOADS of cash. I'll stop there! Since I have been there, I've had a tough time to plan any vacation.

So I've started making my choice for the election. Here's what I've noticed.

Um... I don't think the conservatives have a platform? lol. Honestly, I can't find it anywhere on their site... I can't find it... well, anywhere for that matter. Some of the major newspapers are listing the campaign promises that Harper's making, but since when do elections go on without a platform? Rather than a 'platform' they have a section of their site dedicated to what they've done for Canada. Great..... but what now?

The liberals actually have a pretty good plan in their Green Shift. I still can't get over how much I hate Dion though. I was reading somewhere that apparently he doesn't even take advice from others in the party. That is a VERY bad thing. The one good thing about them not winning would be that it would really force Dion to step aside. It's too publicly known that he's the reason they'll lose this time around because honestly, their politics is /probably/ (and of course, this is a personal thing) what's best for Canada RIGHT NOW.

I really like Jack Layton. I really hate the NDP's. Enough said.

Oh, and Elizabeth May. Well.... when you have to fight to get coverage on national TV, I'm going to say that even if I did vote for her, it just wouldn't pay.

Keep in mind, I realize that we don't vote for the PM, we vote for our local MP, but ultimately they're directly connected.

I'll wait until the leader's debate to make my decision. Other than 'Anything But Conservative' (lol) I'm pretty much undecided.

I think perhaps, and its just my opinion, that now Dion is the Liberal leader, many Liberals are suddenly disenchanted with his leadership abilities.

The man does not exude strength. This is his election race to lose, and when he does, ~then~ the Lib Leadership candidates will build the Liberal party back to where it was, but lost because they changed the L with an F.

With a diff leader the Libs will gain ground. Not with Dion.
Hell, the guy was in NFLD (NL) at one point, talking about catching a big Pike. The fish NL'ers care about are saltwater species, like cod, pollack, turbot etc. Pike?? they are freshwater and non-indigenous to NL. Believe me, no-one there cared a rats ass about his pike story, and they would have laughed behind his back.

With him, I sort of feel sorry for the Lib party.

Yeah - I couldn't agree with you more. I totally feel bad for the Liberals, and have been saying so since the start of the campaign. I've never not voted, but I really honest to god don't know what to do this time around. I'm really concerned Harper's going to get a majority - but at the same time I don't particularly want Dion getting any more backing than necessary. You know, as much as Americans are fighting for change - Canada needs change too.
