Its quite amazing the different mpg registered on different terrains & trips for Elantra. & there are wider readings, too.

My last tank was 21.8 mpg. PennDot gave us a present. Liberty Tunnel inbound closure through the end of the month. Usually mpg runs mid 20's for the commute. Last highway mileage was about 36 mpg driving to Baltimore and back.

Last tank was 37.5mpg, with 2013 auto tranny Elantra sedan..... quite a few short trips & cool downs. So, a drop to only the last five of seven tanks have been 40mpg or more. However, my average since purchase in May is still holding above 39mpg. With the coming colder weather & shorter trips, I'll be sorry when my average drops below 39mpg.

I was pretty sure the people who complained & sued Hyundai about EPA mpg ratings were leadfooters & that has proved to be true. I've been featherfooting the Elantra gas pedal OK & working the auto tranny manual mode setting to get the car to run in the gears I want. MPG is better than my expectations, even better than my wife's 2008 Hyundai Accent!

Last fill-up netted 21.14MPG, and the lifetime car average so far is 21.93.

For all the city driving I do (pretty much all trips are under 10 miles, most under 5 miles in fact), I can't say I'm displeased. I'm by far the poster-child for city driving.

Last fill-up netted 41.4mpg, & the lifetime car average so far is 39.5mpg.

For all the highway driving I do(pretty much all trips are over 4 miles, most(?) over 16 miles in fact, a lot over 35 miles), I can say I'm ravenously pleased. I'm by far tho, NOT the poster-child for highway driving.

..... i put 14.703 gallons in my tank this past saturday night.

That brings up a good point for the 2013 Elantra, which is supposed to have a 12.8 gallon tank. Is it really 12.8gallons?

This one is for the naysayers...

So my wife and i took a road trip this past weekend and i thought i would share the resulting fuel mileage with everyone. First off the car in question is an 2011 Elantra Limited with 6 speed auto, and a little over 85,000 km on the clock. I filled up the morning we left the house with the intent of pushing a single tank as far as i could tongue.gif

A few details about the trip:

We went from our home in Brampton, ON to Ottawa, ON and returned 3 days later. On the day we left the temps were 32+ degrees celsius (90+ degrees fahrenheit) however the Elantra was registering air temps of 35+ degrees celsius (95+ degrees fahrenheit) so we drove the whole way to Ottawa, ON (roughly 490km) with the a/c set at 50% and maintained a speed of 110kmh (68.4mph) with passing done at 115-120kmh (71.5-74.5mph). I also did not use cruise control at any point during the trip and drove with manual shifting as i always do.

The results were...
723km (449miles) traveled on a single tank with the trip computer showing 5.5l/100km (42.8mpg) the low fuel light was on with a remaining range of 65km (40miles). I filled up with 42 liters of gas and calculated the mileage myself at 5.8l/100km (40.6mpg). This officially becomes my best tank to date and a mark that i look to better on a future road trip.

And the proof is in the pictures...

Tried to provide as much info as i could, Enjoy!

Wife's put her first 3 tanks of fuel through the "new" Rio. First tank was 38.1, second tank was 39.3 and the last tank was 36.8. That last tank was 180 miles of city street/back roads driving with no interstate at all. VERY pleased with the "new" car.

My last tank averaged 29.9 mpg. Out of 52 fill ups only two have been below 30 mpg. So far I'm really happy about my mileage considering I drive 80 on the interstate the majority of the time, race out of red lights and other "fun" things. biggrin.gif

(ToGoGuy)....... My wife & I just picked upp our new 2013 Elantra last Friday. Had a similar drive to Ottawa (from Belleville) 5 people on board. 3 Adults and 2 little girls. My driving was with 'eco' on and my habits are similar to yours.

By the time we got there and back to Carlton Place it was avg 6.8 L/100 the 1st 175 klms were driving around on Friday before we left. 41.5 on the way there (using this site mpg conversion and 38.8 done manually).

The trip home from Ottawa was 5.6 (or 50.4 mpg).

5 days later we drove to Oshawa and back 300+ klms with about 10 stops here and there.

The avg was 5.8 ( 48.7 mpg)

We are happy.
