I just bought a new Elantra 2012 ans was told to not wax until a year old. Can someone tell me if that is true?

That is beyond ridiculous! By the time you take delivery of your car the paint and clearcoat have certainly "cured". You're welcome to wax it anytime. Remember, wax is just a protective coating. Whoever told you that was clueless.

^ you can wax it anytime you wish once you get the vehicle, you dont need to wait as it takes time for your hands to be on the vehicle so the exterior is cured by now.. i would say the sooner the better because who knows how well a factory wax holds up

This is terrible news, I purchased my 2012 Elantra on 8-15-11, just as it was being taken off of the car hauler. In the past two and a half days I have detailed both my 2002 Elantra GT and the wife's 2010 Mazda 5. Tomorrow the 2012 Black Elantra gets done, I sure hope your dealer was not telling the truth.

To be completely truthful, this no wax for a year was a general statement when most if not all of the much older cars were painted with basic enamel. The general thought was that it too some time for the paint to completely cure. With today's super paints that are baked on, they are pertty much ready for anything coming out of the oven.
