Hi all

First weekend with the car back, so I got a bit of stuff done!

Bought some Armor All Custom Shield (same product as plastiDip, but works out cheaper in Australia) with the intention of fixing up my grill, so today I did just that:

You can see how it's covered in little silver chips where the paint's been knocked off.

I didn't quite get the masking tape peeled off around the edges perfectly, but it looked heaps better. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't have masked up the sides, and run a sharp knife between where the chrome meets the plastic, and just peeled it off.

I decided to try it out on this door sill as well, to cover up where it had rubbed away.

Think it did a good job of that. Wonder if I could use it to fix that rubber moulding? laugh.gif

Looks great. Make sure when you do it, you put enough coats otherwise it doesn't peel off and it won't last.

Yes, very nice job indeed.
I don't see why you couldn't try the molding. Like mlumz say if you do a several thick coats, it should peel off if you decide you don't like the looks of it.

I believe the recommended way to apply PlastiDip is 4 coats, going a bit heavier on the final one, so I went with it. I did some other things with it before I got the car back, and the 4 coats seemed to be best (did a metal card holder, my scratched-up bike bell and a Dreamcast controller).

I think I will try patching up the rubber moulding today with something. Let you know how it goes.

looks good!
I'm planning to do the same with my 07 but with paint because it's cheaper for me. But I don't want something permanent, so I'm not sure should I use PlastiDip? Will it peel away after sometime? I never used PlastiDip before.

Using PlastiDip will be much more forgiving than paint and will peel off cleanly. If you're confident though, paint will be more durable.

The durability of the PlastiDip seems to be heavily influenced by your application and whether it will be rubbed a lot. My grill still looks as good as when I did it beginning of this year, except where I didn't get the masking perfect at the bottom and it peeled away. The scuff plate on the door tore after about a week.

I did end up using PlastiDip to patch the hole in the rubber moulding shown in the last photo. I used some duct tape to cover the hole and sprayed the dip on thick. It worked much better than I had anticipated. I've also used it to touch-up some faded vinyl trim on the rear door window, the short pillar that separates the large and small windows on the back doors, and it also worked brilliantly.
