For my fellow Canadian members.
The rates have gone down as of yesterday (even on 100% financing), if ever you're in the market or need some mortgage advice just shoot me off a quick pm.

I'd buy in if housing prices aren't as inflated as they are here...

The housing markets in some areas are craz-zy, here in Ottawa it's quite manageable since it's a small enough town.

Well, Ottawa is big enough. I could not afford a house in center town... I would have to go out the the boons or the Quebec side.

You're right, but at least going to the outskirts or Quebec is still feasible from a commute perspective.

at least you're not driving a gas guzzler.

Pretty soon you'll have to take out an installment loan for a gas fill up.

It's a trade off, some people (specially the one's with young kids) can justify the higher taxes b/c of the low daycare costs........ and the beautiful conditions of their roads *lol*

My wife and I had to make that decision when we bought our house and we decided to buy in Ontario, a big part of it was b/c she doesn't drive and taking the bus from Quebec to Ontario can sometimes be a hassle since she doesn't work right in downtown Ottawa.

O/T (but I'll get back on-topic in just a sec), I guess if both parents work, then the cheap daycare is okay, but the conditions SUCK for a lot of them because it's so cheap. Despite the cheap daycare, my wife has decided to stay home. She's met too many parents with kids that are continually sick, cuz parents give their sick kids some tylenol to drop a fever and runny nose, and then drop them off to infect the rest if the kids. We also know parents where the mom doesn't work, but they still stick their kid in daycare starting at 6 months old. To me, that's just not right. In my mind, you need more expensive daycare to weed things out, Darwin-style. Sorry, just ranting. The longer and longer I live here, the more I want to live just across the border in Ontario and make the drive every day...
Back on-topic- do you know of any banks etc that do so-called "Australian-style" mortagages??

I'm presently looking at rental properties. I would love to buy in the next few years, but all the places I want to live are expensive to live in!
