....I live in Northern Illinois and the Elantra Limited I have my eyes on has "Performance tires" on it.

I just noticed this.

Supposed to go to the dealer tomorrow to work out the money.

Is it an OPTION to ask for all weather tires on this car ?

Or is the "Limited" a car that needs performance tires ??

Very worried about bad traction in bad/cold weather.

Thanks in advance .

No car "needs" performance tires. That's dictated by your driving habits. Typically it's assumed that buyers of performance models or trim levels would prefer a performance tire. That means better grip but you lose durability, driving comfort, and poor weather traction.

If you want the dealer to swap out the tires, they likely will, but only at your cost. The car is delivered with the spec tires, which in your case, are performance and not all-season.

If I were you and I had the storage room, I'd get a set of steelies and some winter tires. Your other choice is to change out the tires when you buy the car and maybe try to sell your slightly used performance tires.

The "performance tires" on the Elantra are generally all-season ones not summer only tires.

Of course nothing beats a set of dedicated snow tires in the snow.

I would have the dealer put regular all-seasons on. The "performance tires" they put on, you are probably paying an arm and a leg for them and who knows what their definition of performance tires are.
