I recently tried to install a new head unit into my 2005 Elantra GT. The weirdest thing in the world happened. The wiring harness was done and everything looked OK, all of a sudden I hear a pop. I know it was a fuse, and I found and replaced one that was dead, but the radio would not come on. Neither would the dome lights. I could not for the life of me find the culprit, and eventually had to loop the power for the head unit back. I ended up finding constant power from the fuse box and wiring the system that way, but I still don't know where this busted fuse is!
Aside from the relay box in the engine compartment, and the fuse box on the drivers' side under the dash, is there any other known fuse locations? -------------------- Hyundai - it's what Chuck Norris drives.

Did you replace the fuse on the back of the radio? If so, it sounds like you may have a burnt through wire somewhere in the harness... if there isn't a fuse you missed in the dash or under the hood.

Is it the weird fuse #25 issue?

I don't have an explanation for the dome light but my guess is the fuse was blown in the radio console itself or along the power line

hmm... I don't know the number but it was a 15 on the bottom row.
The radio console....couldn't be - it turned on once I rerouted power (red only). If it was the fuse associated with the radio, it would not power on period. And I did check it - it looked good. -------------------- Hyundai - it's what Chuck Norris drives.

check fuse 25 and 6. There is a wiki article on this.... http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php...ticle&id=30
Fuse 25 is on the bottom, at the right. You could also check the black connector beside it. Though the Fuse 6 discussion I recall is this one... http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php...=20794&st=0 Hopefully you're not planning on keeping the radio hooked up with the re-routed power. -------------------- carPC Build Thread | My Elantra Site | My Fiero Site | My WebSite | Donate here to keep ElantraClub online and growing. |

wow sarge that is really helpful. I will definitely try that! I have to take the dash back apart to test the power to the radio, but I will be doing that soon anyway.
Why do you think the jerry-rigging is not a good idea? Aside from possibly catching fire =) -------------------- Hyundai - it's what Chuck Norris drives.

well it all depends on how/where you jerry-rigged the power from. Is it a fused link, is it set to an ACC power such that it only remains on for a limited time after the car is shut off, things like that. Will it cause your battery to drain or put an extra tax on another system of the car, posing problems for that system/fuse/link.
Fire would only be if you hooked things up poorly, causing shorts and such. -------------------- carPC Build Thread | My Elantra Site | My Fiero Site | My WebSite | Donate here to keep ElantraClub online and growing. |
