Just dropping in to say I use this car as a travel vehicle only! I bought it in late 01. It's an 02 Elantra GL, 5 speed, full power! I presently have 239,690 on the odometer with the original clutch! The air blows cold and the heat works fine. Presently it still gets 32 mpg at 65 mph on cruise! It does burn a little oil but it seems to be bullet proof! Third timing belt and third set of michelins and she starts every morning for the 46 mile commute! These cars have come a long way since 84 and I would recommend them to anyone! I can't justify buying a new commuter car cause the " Korean Porsche" is still chugging!! Happy New Year to all!

hi everyone; I am not really new here but thought I should reintroduce myself. Back in 2002 my wife and I bought a new Elantra GT hatch back. It became my wife's daily driver for her work. Great car - only reason we sold it was for corporate relocation to US in Feb 2007 - would have been poor resale with km vs miles.
A bit of history that led to more Elantras: relocation took us to north side of Phoenix Arizona. Been loving life in desert for seven years this month. Have bought and traded a few vehicles - my wife says too many, I am fickle that way. About a year and half after relocation bought a year old, certified preowned 2007 Nissan Armada - had been getting lots of visitors in winter so decided wanted more seats and wanted 4x4 for more exploring. Offset the big pricey beast with sensible - bought a very used 2004 Elantra GLS - bare bones, not even electric windows ha ha. A fine car for what it was (used and cheap), but within a year we regretted the beast, were getting fewer visitors (guess the novelty of free place to stay was gone) so traded Armada for a 07 Acura TL Type S - I know, that is a difference! Few months latter traded the beater Elantra for a 2004 4Runner. Jump forward almost five years to now - still have the 4Runner - a great vehicle - it has been all over Arizona and many parts of five neighboring states. Have the biggest up size tires on it that can fit without lift. We will keep it for longg time. Last year bought a 03 Jeep TJ - not a daily driver, just a project with teenage son - has been a hoot down here - top down, out in the desert. The Acura has been good, but ran out of powertrain warranty late last year, coming up on 100K miles, and starting to show signs that made me think costs are coming. Decided to get a smaller more economical car, something to offset the two gas hogs. Perhaps our son will buy out car when he heads off to college in two and half years- my wife and I firmly believe that should never give a kid a car, gotta earn it to appreciate and respect it like both of us did, but he'll probably get a great deal for a car with know history So went shopping during President's Day sales. Had researched and looked at VW, Mazda, Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai past month or so. Went to look at certified preowned Hyundai - but rebates and sales really closed the gap to a brand new. Bought through Costco Auto program - no bullsheet - shows invoice, price below that - got a 14 GT hatch with 6 speed at $2K+ below retail. After that part of dealing their first offer for trade on Acura was a bit low, but not shocking. They asked us what would close deal - I named a delta that was actually $1K less then we wanted. They came back at $400 OTD more then I asked, only $600 OTD less then we wanted. Done, shook hands. Best car buying experience I have ever had. I strongly recommend the Costco Auto buying program.
Very happy with Elantra so far. Color is called Titanium Gray Metallic - sort of silver, really nice I think. I keep finding nice features. It has everything the Acura TLs had, and then some. Nice to get 50% better mpg AND no more premium fuel. We drove up to Prescott for dinner Sunday night. Have not done an impromptu trip like that in long while. Came back the long way down through Yarnell to Congress - a nice fun drive with a stick Total just over 200 miles - meter showed just over 36 mpg for that trip. Filled tank first time yesterday. Worked out to 31 mpg - that included some parking lot practice for stick with my son, few stalls and some idling, slow speeds - so I am very impressed with mileage.
Anyway, if you have read all that little novel, now you know my recent car history. I had signed up to this forum Nov 2005, three years into ownership of the 02 GT. Dropped off after selling it for the relocation in 07. Came back on a few times during 2009/10 when had the cheapie GLS. But now I'm back and plan to be here for a while!!
When came back to forum realized the username I picked back in 05 will be sort of silly now - her02gt (recall it was my wife's driver). PM'd elantragt (admin), asked to change, did right away. So decided to make a donation - $20 gets a lifetime VIP, nice I think, so did that.
I look forward to reading what people do with their Elantras, and sharing experiences on here.

Hi there,
Just bought on Monday a 2013 Elantra GLS. Very happy with it so far.
I'm coming from an 02 Monte Carlo SS, so the only thing I'm missing is the power. But am happy to sacrifice that for what is about 2-2.5X better fuel economy and a ton of cash savings from fuel.
I have the 6 speed Auto with Shiftronic, in black.
My question is regarding my ipod input. I bought the ipod cable from the dealership and have connected my iPod classic to it, but I can't navigate through the folders of music or podcasts but using the head unit. It always just says AUX Connected on the screen and unless you navigate over to FM of XM or into your head units setup, there's no way to go into the iPod that I can see. I can play my iPod through the stereo, but I have to control it from the iPod itself.
Am I missing something here, or is this how it is supposed to function. Thanks for any and all help!

Happy new year to all, i'm new to this forums and just want to ask some advice.
I have made reservation for a 2014 hyundai elantra 1.8 steel wheels, power windows and steering, central locking and keyless entry, power mirror with repeater, radio-mp3-aux-cd, fog lamps with a total price of 49,900 aed equals to 13,500 usd, but after a day i saw that kia was offering the 2014 kia soul 1.6 with almost same specs, now i'm confused to what to choose. The elantra has a better engine and design but the soul has a better seating position which my wife like.
Which do you think is a much better car, By the way my wife is the one who is going to drive the car and she is a first time driver.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums... Just bought a 2011 Elantra Touring GLS about 2 months ago, used with 47,000 miles.
Hoping to learn alot from the forums, and looking for ideas to buy some low-price parts.
Plans are a small drop, some wheels, and tint for now to class it up.

Is there some special trick to get my contacts from my iPhone4 to download to the address book in the car? I have the "sync contacts" chosen and have followed the instructions in the manual. It says to hit the voice button and say the command "phonebook" but the system does not recognize that command.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I bought a used 2005 Hyundai in the spring and have had no problems with it except:
1. In cold weather (-10C to -20C plus), the back window never fully de-ices/defogs, just a large round circle in the middle of the back window. I
also see condensation build-up top and sides of the back window.
2. When driving in similar cold weather. the right passenger window and both side rear windows fog up.
When driving in such cold weather, I turn the defogger and heat up full initially to clear the front window. Afterwards I alternate between defogger
the regular heat setting. And of course, the rear window heat is always on or it will total fog up. I have aimed the side heater vents on to the door
windows too.
I welcome your advice and instruction . . .

Hey all, I'm a proud new owner of a 2013 Hyundai elantra Gls, 4 dooor. And i love it. It is a new used car so when i got it, it had 40k miles on it. Thanks for having a great forum, im sure i am going to learn a lot.
Now with the question.
I think i have a right front bearing going out. Its clicking and starting to hum, louder when turning right much quieter when i make sure the car is perfectly strait.
As far as i know the dealer is going to repair this as warranty work. But if the previous owner damaged it, Im guessing i will have to pay for the repair.
Is it easier for me to do it by just buying a new hub ?
And is it safe to drive to work for another couple days ?
Thanks

I've had my Elantra GT 8 weeks and almost 2500 miles on it... figure I would post my opinions and plans for my car.
First off, so far I love my car but I do have some issues so far, mostly my own personal issues and nothing really about the car itself. My biggest issue is the stock tires blow. Driving stick, I find it very easy to spin the tires when pulling out of some stops. And not just a quick chirp, but a good squeal. Maybe this is a result of buying the base model with 16" wheels instead of the better model with 17"s and sport tuned suspension. I realize the car is built for fuel economy and I'm sure the tires are no different.
Secondly, this is the first car I've owned in stick shift since 6 speed basically became the standard in most cars. Again I know fuel efficiency is the purpose, but I dislike both first and sixth gear. Feel like first is way too short and sixth is seriously just cruising. Which I could forgive if first wasn't so quick.
Thirdly, instead of buying the BASE model, I wish I would have at least gotten the touch and go package. Unfortunately I was already up sold from getting the Accent 5 door m/t I wanted in the first place. So another $1000 seemed unreasonable at the time. But I already wish I had the pedals, shift knob and 17s even though I didn't like the design, but would have saved me some cash in the long run. Not sure if the "sport tuned suspension" is that great, but would definitely interested in trying.
On the plus side, I do love my car and I definitely enjoy the thrill of driving stick again. The interior is great and I love the sporty look of the seats and the quality look of the dash. I've even become quite happy with the bluetooth that I figured big f'ing deal, I'll never use it. But I do. Also I like the response i get about my car. Definitely enjoying having a car I can be proud of. And when I step on it, I definitely like the pep that this car possesses. It is a fun car to drive and I am quite happy overall so far.
But I also have some great plans for the car as well...
First off in the next week or so I'm going to be tinting the windows. 35% in the front and 20% in the back and rear. Calling today to make the appointment.
I eventually need new tires, I plan on upgrading to possibly 17" or 18" wheels with sportier tires as well as dropping in stiffer lowering springs. But that will be in the future. Sure I'll wind up getting 3 years out of the tires, so we'll see.
In the mean time, I want to start doing some little things that aren't so costly starting with painting the engine cover. Thinking gloss black and silver since I've got a silver car. But I may decide to choose a color to do engine decorating in and compliment that on the cover. Mud guards are definitely on my list as well because I like the appearance if done right. Also want to look into getting the nicer factory pedal and knob I wanted in the first place.
Also a angled muffle tip because for some reason, Hyundai didn't think to make the exhaust cosmetically pleasing.
A little further in the future I want to add the Injen CAI and when someone finally puts out a reasonably priced catback system want to get one. Nut when that time comes, I may just go to a muffler shop and have a custom one put on. Thats the plans for now.

Hi!, I am new here. My name is Francisco Javier, Im Mexican, but since 1 year, now I live in Santiago de Chile (
View).
I am a proud owner of a Hyundai Elantra Coupe 2013 MTX 1.6, I come from having Ford cars, so it is my first corean .
What I love of my car:- It's sport appearence, color and design is great.
- It is a quiet car, even at high speeds
- Great dashboard design
- Comfortable interiors and seats
- Good engine, with acceptable performance for being a 1.6 liters 130hp (less than 9 segs 0 to 100kph @ sea level)
Contras:- It appears to be more powerful than it is lol.
- The electronic steering wheel (EPS) is ugly, makes long distance travel painful (because you have to be centering the car to the lane hundred of times per minute).
- The clutch is nefarious
- The gear synchronization (specially 1st and 2nd)
- The old lcd technology of the screen of the radio does not match the rest of the dashboard
Well, that is my opinion, you may agree or disagree with me.
Before I bought this car, I was deciding between the Kia Cerato Koup, but now I think I took a good decision.
The first mod I made, its to paint with black matte plastidip the front bumper (see below).
Second mod, was to install xenon lights but the car rejected them, so I came back to oem.
Here are some pics of my car and some travels on it, enjoy
Well, thats for now, see you!.

Hey everyone, Im new to the ELantraclub forums, but not to the car game. I had a S-chassis project that I had but due to not having time to keep working on it, i decided to sell it rather then let it sit. So I have my daily MD and I decided to go towards the KDM route for it and see where it takes me. Still fresh on the KDM game so I haven't done much to it yet. Still planning on lowering, and since its still on warranty i dont plan on working on the engine or main harness electrical. Main thing I can see myself working on this car is suspension system and cosmetics (exterior/interior).
well guess thats all, thanks for having me.
Heres a older pic of it

Hello there! I love finding forums like this for my rides. This is my first time going with a hyundai, previously I have owned Hondas, Nissans, Subarus, and Mazdas. I got a really good deal on my elantra ($100). It has a blown Head Gasket so I am just gathering everything I need to get it back on the road. I do have a question or 2:
1.) I was looking for Fog Lights for my elantra, but the ones I am looking at for the year my car is (2003, yet It appears I have a different front end then the ones pictured. My car has round holes for the fog Lights, and the Grille seems different, yet everything I am looking at, the fog lights have a flat side it. could it be possible that I have a late year 2003, that used the 2004 front end? I have ran into this issue before with my Subaru, being that it was a MY04, yet it was an actual 2003.
2.) what are some areas that I need to look at and make sure parts get replaced now that the car has 200k miles on the clock. I am doing the headgasket and timing since the head gasket is blown. The car already has brand new CV axles, starter, alternator, battery, Water Pump, Radiator, Thermostat, all new AC equipment, down to the lines. the previous owner was an aircraft mechanic that had to drive 100 miles each way to and from work, so he took really good care of the car, and since the car had been down for a month, he went and bought a new sonata, so I bought the elantra from him, as the deal was too good to pass up.

Hi!
I'm still trying to figure this forum thing out.
Essentially I am in the process of purchasing my first Elantra - 2013. I wanted to pick up the roof rack and the ski attachments as well, but was discouraged by a gent at the dealership. Apparently there have been issues with the roof rack and they have had a few buy-backs.
First: how do I find product review on roof rack in this program?
Second: anybody else hear about this? Direct me? Obviously Thule would be a great backup option but that's a bit more $$$ than I had hoped to spend at the moment!
Thanks!!!

Got it home this weekend and have a problem with the tranny shifting from 2nd to third gear after warming up. I have been doing a little reading and need to pull codes and change tranny fluid for sure. Anyways i hope that fixes the problems. Im sure ill be asking plenty of questions. It is an auto tranny by the way.

I originally found this forum when I was looking to see if I could upgrade my 2010 Elantra (GLS?) to have audio controls on the steering wheel. I saw that is possible and hope to do that in the future. I'm not necessarily car smart however and am wondering a couple things about that and the trip computer.
Is the audio control replacement easy enough that a noob like me could do it? And...
Is it possible to add the trip computer that tells me the mpg, miles until empty, etc etc. Right now all I have is odo, trip 1, trip 2, eco on/off. How much would we be looking at to upgrade these two things if even possible? Thanks for the help!

Howdy everyone!
So my wife is making me sell my two project cars *whimper whimper.* She owns a fourth gen '07 Elantra and it's got a few issues, but it's just about paid off. This of course means that I have inherited the responsibility of repairing and maintaining the car. I love fixing cars and have worked on hundreds of them in my time. I've been mostly engulfed in Chevy 3.1's and 2.8's and for the last few years I've been elbow deep in the Mitsubishi 420a, the Mazda FS-DE and KL-DE motors.
I guess I'll be lookin' around and seeing who else we have from the Northeast, and see what kinds of part outs are going on. I am having trouble finding a center console replacement... All they have on ebay is a ton of fabric covers that go over the broken plastic part. hehe... the search goes on!
Thanks in advance to all of you helpful people who lend your insight!
Ken.

I'm a little alarmed that my mileage is averaging under 30MPG. I've done a couple of fillups and calculated the averages and one time it was like 29 and another it was 27.5. Now, I'm mainly doing short trips, but I would still expect my mileage to be around 30MPG at a minimum, right? How bad would the A/C being on affect mileage? The display showed 30.6 MPG as my average when I went to fill up, which was obviously incorrect.
A couple other facts. I've replaced the air filter with the more efficient K&N version (which should actually improve my mileage. Plus, I used the ECO setting for my entire last tank of gas. I've actually turned it off now, in frustration, to see if that degrades or improves my mileage.

I am not a big fan of BlueLink. I have grown weary of what I call the little boy who cried wolf. I have received numerous false alarms. Does anybody out there know how to disable the BlueLink Transmitter. I want something that is effective yet can be undone when I sell the car. I suppose the answer is to disconnect the wiring to the shark fin antenna on the roof. Does anybody know for sure???
