my daughters 2002 elantra gls had a factory cass player in it. so i bought a used factory cd player off ebay and but that in. everything works just fine. but i see in the manual;, that there was an option for a cd/cass combo player (h290). this same radio was used in the 2002-2005/6 hyundai sonata and santa fe. has anyone ever tried to see if these will work ok in the elantra? there are so many different numbers on the radio, but look the same, and have the same wiring connections. would like to upgrade to this for her car. if anyone has any info, or has any suggestions, please.
thanks
love our hyundai, good little car

On eBay for my 07 Elantra there's a range of 7"/8" radios with the entire fascia around them in the $300-$400 range. They advertise GPS + Bluetooth + Camera support + etc. I am looking for something that looks factory and has Bluetooth iPhone support, FM Radio and GPS. For GPS I mainly just want it to show the map when I am driving.
Just wondering if anyone's tried any of these radios and are they of decent quality?

I recently added a subwoofer to my GT and of course you must remove the dash to plug in the RCA wires into the back of the HU....well, after 2 attempts to re-assemble the dash panel my instrument panel lights and A/C / Heat knob lights are not working. I thought it might be a fuse or maybe i didnt plug in one of the harnesses behind the dash. I checked those and thats not it. What else could it be?

I'm looking to replace the standard stereo in my 2003, basically just because I want an AUX input.
I was looking at this one here
http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PLR44MU-Detacha...O/ref=pd_cp_e_1But I realize...I'm not very knowledgable about this sorta thing, do all car stereos fit in all cars? Would this one fit in my Elantra?
Do you guys have any better suggestions? I'm really not looking to spend more than like 50 dollars. I just want something with an Aux input, maybe an SD card slot and a USB slot, and something that wont look too garish or flashy or out of place in my car, you know?

I recently bougt a 2011 Elantra with the standard radio. I would like to upgrade it to a touch screen nav. I've seen the units on ebay, but I haven't a post from anyone that had installed one of those units. Anyone have experience with one of the units from ebay? Also, if I go with Pioneer or JVC, can you get the steering wheel controls to work with those?
Any help would be appreciated.

Really, I don't normally have this sort of problem with VCRs, trialthlon watches, etc.
But the clock on the stock Hyundai radio/Cd player has me totally stumped. (Car's an 02 EGT, premium package).
All I wanna do is reset the hour (which is an hour slow since we went to daylight savings time), because it looks goofy with the dash clock showing the right time. I haven't had to do this before because I bought the car last October.
I've tried all the sensible button combos to no avail. And the car's handbook is useless because the stereo shown in it bears no resemblance whatever to what's in my car.
Anybody have an idea?
thanks, you'll keep me out of the nuthouse.

2010 HD Elantra.
Ive referenced several guides and forums regarding this matter and I always get mixed results. none of which provide pictures or anything, and I would really like to do this install the right way and avoid any mistakes at all costs.
I would like to keep the oem radio, I have a line out converter. I removed the stock radio and am confused as to which harness(s) to tap into.
using this link:
http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php...ticle&id=69it doesnt make sense, the guide reference the black plug with tab up.. niether side has tabs. the tab is on the side.. also theres only like 4 wires in the first harness, the guide references a single plug with all the wires in there..
So my radio has 3 plugs total. each with black, red, and yellow wires.. none of which have the traditional speaker wire green purple etc etc.. so its difficult to know where to tap into..
several guides also reference a stock amp in the trunk right side.. ive pulled apart the carpet and there is no amp..
Ive taken a picture to show what Im dealing with. Hopefully you guys can help me out so I can get started on this build!
picture:
also as you can see in the picture... ive left the clock airbag light assembly attached. I was afraid to take out the airbag wire. Its kinda in the way does anyone know if its safe to disconnect the airbag light?
thanks very much in advance.

This my first post and I did not see a searchable area to begin the topic.
As the second registered owner of an Elantra car that came off of rental I am hearing a high frequency noise which I did not notice on test drives. Initial test drive the salesman drove with the radio on. In my excitement over driving a new vehicle and because it is cold and driving with heater on I did not notice the high pitched noise until after taking ownership.
I have followed a very long thread on another car which describes this exact problem-- including those who thought they might be losing their wits for having heard it. The Infiniti thread tried many things. After a long time the company did replace the problem component which was determined to the the ECU or engine control unit. Even this was hit and miss.
How do I approach this problem with a car still under warranty where very often the service department will either not hear the noise or not acknowledge the problem?
Have others had this problem and what did you do? Is there a technical service bulletin (TSB) related to this problem for Hyundai?

I just purchased a 2013 Elantra Coupe SE. It has the Technology a package which includes a "digital external amp". I'm assuming it's hidden in the dash somewhere but I'd like to know for sure. This is my first Hyundai and so far I love it. Well I love most of it. Not wild about the tunes. Sounds pretty distorted at volume. Especially when playing through the iPod connected with the Hyundai cord or streaming from my iPhone. Even XM is "staticky" sounding sometimes. Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea on a good fix. My last 2 vehicles had Bose Sound systems and even our Jeep Rubicon has a big ole sub in the rear gate and Infinity Speakers that jam. I was really surprised that this nice a ride didn't sound any better. Thanks. Tami

In front of the shifter is the supplementary jacks. There is no power going to the USB port. Hyundai said because of the Rosen. They told me that is why there is a hardwired cable in my glovebox. According to them, those ports worked with the original unit and that I might get a stereo shop to tap power back to them. I will be testing all ports/jacks and coffee makers in my car today!
Is this hooey or true?

So I had the urge to go out and get a new deck since the stock one skipped a couple cds.. and why not just use mp3s anyways?
I got myself a JVC KD-G430 and as it stands/sits right now I've got the harness all soldered together and ready to plug in tomorrow on my lunch break... yeap, probably gonna do it then. - only missing the final taping and zip-tying (forgot to buy those)
I was debating on a Sony that had a USB plug upfront, but it looked kinda shabby, so I'll stick with the plain aux input for my g/f's iPod when she's in the car on trips.

Yesterday we took the kids (Hyundais) to get their baths. On the way there I tried to change channels/media/volume and my entire system locked up. I turned the car off twice and restarted and it did not turn off the system at all! Eric and I pulled into a parking lot, turned the car off, got out, locked the doors with the alarm and it was still blasting out!!!
After 15 seconds (+/-) it finally shut down.
Any ideas?

Is only upgrading the rear speakers bad?
I have an aftermarket Alpine deck (21 watts RMS) and am thinking about upgrading the rears. The fronts I added tweeters to years ago and I think they sound OK. I haven't read any awesome reviews on fonts with good mids for our car -- so haven't fell in love.
My goal is to maybe get some rear speakers that are good enough to remove the sub from my trunk. I rarely listen to stuff that requires thump these days, so no need to carry around a sub to just add weight and suck down gas mileage. But when I do listen to music, it's nice to have more than what the stock rears provide.
My question is, is it OK to only add rear speakers, or will I damage my stereo? Like due to different impedance (ohm ratings) for the front and rear...? I'm not sure how many ohms the front are. The fronts and rears should match impedance, right?
For the rears, I'm thinking one of these:
- Kicker KS69 $120
- Rockford Fosgate Punch P1692 $120
- Alpine SPR-69 $200
I may modernize my deck and go with the Alpine CDE-HD137BT $220 -- but I'm not sure. But if I do that I'll probably go with the alpine power pack as well, and then I'll have to do the fronts as well.
If I had to do the fronts I was thinking about one of these:
- Alpine SPS-610C $130
- Pioneer TS-A1684R $100
- Kicker DS6.2 $120
Anyway, for now, I'd like to just do the rears. Would that be OK?
Thanks,
-Nathan

NOTE I AM FROM CANADA, THE HYUNDAI IS TOO. SORRY I SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THIS
Hi,
I have a hyundai elantra 2007 sedan, that has a radio with no steering wheel radio controls, and no cd player, as well there is no aux input in the car. I am wanting to install an aftermarket stero that has an aux input. The most I know how to do is open and remove the fascia to access the original radio and I have not done anything past that. Although the link below is of a different year car, the radio/clock look the exact same as the one in my car for reference:
http://www.elantraclub.com/forum/index.php...ticle&id=65picture 3
So once I get the stock radio/stereo removed, is it as easy as just unplugging whatever was in the stock and plugging it into the aftermarket stereo that has aux? Will this allow the aux to work? I want to use the aux to connect my mp3 player to the stereo system. Thank you very much for anyone that replies. I would appreciate it if you were very descriptive because this is my first car ever and I am a complete newb when it comes to this kind of stuff. I have done some hardware hacking with phones but thats about all the experience I have.

So this weekend I decided to install an aftermarket radio in my 2008 Hyundai Elantra GLS. It had the AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 radio with factory AUX input. I hate having things in my car not work, so I decided to figure out a way to keep the factory AUX input with an aftermarket radio, WITHOUT having to modify the existing AUX panel like another DIY I found here on the EC forums.
This is pretty simple to do, but requires simple modification of the Metra wiring harness..
You'll need:
Aftermarket radio with AUX input, obviously
Dash Kit (I used the Metra dash kit found at a local car audio shop)
Metra wiring harness #70-1004
Small, thin screwdriver or thin ice pick / scratch awl
Solder, soldering iron
Electrical tape or heatshrink
3.5mm audio cable
Wire stripper
First things first, so we know what we're working with here. Here's the factory pinout of the radio I had in the vehicle. Noticed I've highlighted certain pins. These are the pins for the factory AUX input. They're AUX L, AUX R, and AUX Ground.
Here's before and after pics of the cable I used. I just had this sitting around, and never used it, so I decided to just donate it to the project. In the 2nd pic, you'll notice four wires. There's a positive and a ground wire for each. Left + ground, and Right + ground. The grounds are the bare copper within each wire. The sheathed wires are the positives.
Next I took the metra wiring harness, and modified it to fit my needs. Luckily, there's 3 wires that happen to be in the metra harness that most of us won't need. These three wires are the illumination wire, the remote amp turn on wire, and the power antenna wire. Using your thin long screwdriver, ice pick, or scratch awl poke it inside the harness just above the wire you need, and push. Then, pull the wire out from the back of the harness. This should come out easily. Try not to tug. You'll remove the wire + the pin on the wire, which you can then just push through from the back into the harness on the proper pin you need for your AUX inputs. Refer to the pinout in the first picture to see where you should locate the new wires. Below is an image of the modified metra harness:
Next we need to take your donor cable, twist the two grounds together, and strip a fair amount of insulation off the L and R wires. Then attach them to the metra harness, making sure you hook the L to the AUX L, the R to the AUX R, and the two grounds to the AUX Ground. For a good solid connection that will last years, take the time to solder them together, and then tape them off. Here's a picture of the wires wired up, but not soldered yet:
This next image shows my completed harness, with all wires soldered and taped properly, and then the harness taped to cut down on clutter and for easier install:
And here's how the completed harness works with my Pioneer DEH-P6000 radio with rear aux input:
Install the radio into the car, plug up all the harnesses, and bam, you're done! Your factory aux input still works perfectly!

Listing what i have currently:
Dual XDM7610 head unit
10" Pioneer Sub (480 peak @4ohms ~120 RMS) w/ a .75cu.ft. enclosure (needs 1.0cu.ft)
Profile HA740 Baja 4xch amp (Peak Output Power (4 Ohms) 120W x 4 ; RMS Output Power (4 Ohms) 60W x 4)
I've had the HU for over 4yrs now and its starting to act a lil weird from time to time. Connectors not always sending the right signal from face plate.
So here's my ideas:
First replace the HU with a double din that has bluetooth and USB
Choice: Dual Axxera X2DMA500
My current Dual has worked great until now and 4+yrs of service is fairly good in my book. This one has bluetooth, 2xusb, sd slot, and has blue backlighting. Everything i'm needing for a good price.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_070X2DM500/Ax...00.html?tp=5684Next is a new enclosure for the sub and amp/s
Make a box for the sub with the front panel extending towards the rear seats so as to attach 1 to 2 amps on it.
Then, I want to take the Baja amp and use it for the car speakers which i would replace with these:
Front: Kicker DS6.2 components (6.5 speakers w/3/4 tweeters)
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62/Kicke...6-2.html?tp=106Rear: Kicker KS65 (6.75 w/attached 3/4 tweeters)
http://www.crutchfield.com/s_206KS65/Kicke...=N&skipvs=TFront's top mount depth is less than 2in so should fit with no window hinderance, and both sets RMS range is right in line with the Baja amp's RMS range.
Finally, a new amp for the pioneer sub:
Dual XPE1700
Its a 1000wx1ch amp with RMS of 240x1 at 4ohms. So it won't be overloaded with the sub and actually have some room to grow.
As you can see I have given this a fair amount of thought and research. Most has been selected based on price, but suggestions and advice welcome.

Per my other thread, I recently installed a new headunit. Today I installed the XM unit that integrates with the stereo and allows control from the front. This is a great setup, but unfortunately there is a high pitched squeel in the background when the engine is working.
I'm guessing that this is due to a grounding issue?
I am aware of ground loop isolators, but the ones that I see work through 1/8 inch audio cables. This would not help me, since the XM tuner connects to my headunit through the bus link in the back. When installing the XM tuner, I had to connect a switched power wire, and a ground wire to my radio wiring harness.
Would it make the problem go away if I connect the XM ground wire to something metal on the car? If not, is there some sort of filter that I can install?
EDIT: After more research, I don't think the ground is the problem, since the headunit and XM unit are using the exactly same ground cable. I'm thinking using this on the power wire to the XM unit might work?

I’m willing to bet there are a few ham radio operators on this site.
I’m taking delivery if my new Elantra GT on Thursday. I’m looking at how I should go about installing my Yaesu FT-8800 in the new car. I have the remote kit, and in my current car have the front panel mounted in the dash just below the broadcast radio, with the body of the radio under the front passenger seat.
I’m looking at mounting the front panel just under the lighter sockets, but am concerned if I’ll have enough room on the right side where the microphone plugs in. I’m also wondering what’s a good place to pick up power and to mount a remote speaker.
If anyone has any experience with mounting a rig in an Elantra I’d like to know how you got it to fit, pictures would be great if you have any of your installation.
Thanks for your help.

I just bought a 2008 elantra GLS. 5 speed manual with power windows/locks/mirrors/upgrade 6 speaker stereo, factory keyless entry/alarm, etc.. etc..
Love the car so far, but noticed something irritating.
When I lock the doors with the key fob, and then hit the button again where the horn honks, I noticed this weekend that randomly the alarm will go off and the lights will flash and horn honk. If I just hit the button once and lock the doors, I don't have the problem. But I noticed the alarm going off randomly several times this weekend and its kind of irritating.
Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong?

So I have an Kenwood Amp and component speakers that I intended to install in my RX7 but with it parked at the moment I would like to upgrade my Elantra's sound quailty. What might be the best way to go about doing this? I want to retain the stock headunit. The component speakers come with two 6 1/2 speakers and two tweeters that I would like to install in the rear where the existing speakers are. I have a 2013 Coupe btw. Input? Direction? Advice?
Thanks

Ordered my Knukoncepts kit from Amazon on Monday, and got it today... nice!
The kit was $30 shipped, and it's good quality stuff- primarily the gauge of the wire. This is a 4-gauge kit, and it really is 4-gauge! See pictures below... (my "8-gauge" kit from walmart vs. the new stuff stuff..)
One more thing- I don't generally comment about stuff I don't know about.. but after doing some research and seeing this in several car audio guru sites... You should NOT measure what an amp kit can do it WATTS. You need to measure it in AMPS. Meaning, if you're running two amplifiers, and one has a 30-amp fuse and one have 2 30-amp fuses, you need a kit that will handle 90 amps. Make sure you do your homework and don't be deceived by companies that try to sell 2000 watt kits with crappy thin wire!
