I'm sorry but this pic drives one thing home... the back end of this is way too tall, way too boxy/bulky looking. They should have brought the hatch over instead. Oh well. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice vehicle, just not my taste.
Wagons ROCK!!
I'm sure it has a wonderful personality
It's not super sexy but the utility factor helps deter the looks. Like Bob said "Fraggle rock" or something like that.... I think he's been drinking.
That thing screams Mazda 5
Mazda 5/ Kia Rondo
Boxy n fugly
Seriously... excuse me while I throw up.
Hyundai definitely missed the cue this time. Oh well - at least I know which Elantra I won't be looking at.
It's a bit tall. A bit sport-ute-ish in the appearance. I much prefer the look of the J2 wagon. Also, those massive rear pillars scream "accident waiting to happen". You could likely hide an XD in that blind spot!
Oh... come on, it's not that.... it's not so..... I mean.... ugh.
Haha, it is pretty ugly. However, Hyundai did get the Genesis Coupe design right. Maybe the touring design was pieced together during a series of Friday afternoon intern meetings.
I'm tryin', but that thing is worse than beer goggle ugly.
I've had threee glasess of wine but it's still uugly
The metaphorical under-30 beauty from a specific world region getting older and turning into not staying beautiful.
This Elantra has turned into it's mother.
Not nice. Its an ugly clone of the shipping container wagons everyone makes.
Even though it's very similar, the hatch looks much better.
This just shows the concept of a sporty Elantra is totally lost on the brains over at Hyundai USA.
I don't much care for the looks of either, but I will concur that the hatch is the better of the two.
come on man, I just had breakfast.
The hatch is way nicer...
Ya hatch is nicer, but i doubt i'd buy it either. I prefer the fastback look.
That hatchback has bigger wheels, side sills, it's a nicer color shot in better light and backdrop.
The wagon has a tint job that my mom could have done.
Enrique, that's all true so I found the cars in full side profile. Wagon still looks boxier, crappier and less sporty.
My main point here is I believe that Hyundai USA has their heads up their ass at times. Clearly they don't give a damn about the loyal Elantra hatchback owners/fans and to be honest, that sucks. I'm not blaming Hyundai, they designed a vehicle in Europe that should have been a replacement for the GT... the i30, but we're not getting it. If I sound a little pissed off, I am. Hyundai is turning the Elantra into something few enthusiasts would want and it directly affects this club. Not that they needed to listen to members here but the poll below clearly shows enthusiasts don't like the wagon (except Bobzilla lol):

But the Elantra Hatch was so ugly. . . I can understand going away from it. . .
No offense to you "loyal hatchback owners" I just never liked the hatch. Wagons, OK. Sedans, OK. Hatches, no. I see hatch and think Chevette. . .it's a subconsicous reaction.
And to compete with the new El Camino, the Elanchero.
(It was a quick chop, I apologize for the poor quality of it.)
I agree that the hatch looks much better... having grown up in the UK with "hot hatches" I would rather buy a hatch than an estate car (wagon) but in those pix I must admit I much prefer the wagon's wheels B)
Easy swap^
Another comparision pic:
And don't forget about this comparision:

Elantra touring:
......................... I got a great idea! Why don't Hyundai bring both over to America and let us decide. Give the hatch a little more sportyness; make the wagon a little more family friendly so that Elantra name can appeal to a wide range of people. Didn't they learn a lesson from the GT?
Or just have brought over the hatch. I'm sure the cargo capacity with the seats folded down in the hatch is decent. Look, the Elantra sedan is pretty generic looking. The new wagon is boxy. I think bringing the sportier hatch would have been the way to go. Then again Hyundai tends to do exactly the opposite of what I want.
^^^^ Maybe it's time to start begging for the wagon?
I keep hoping that at one point they will bring the hatch here......maybe they are introducing the wagon first as it seems that North Americans have to have the biggest of models. Then down the road introduce the hatch....
I just hope one of the World Engines will eventually make their way into the Elantra.
