ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ EC Site Comments _ Thanks/Like System

Posted by: elantragt Mar 26 2011, 01:00 AM

I've just completed the installation of an new "Thanks/Like" feature here at the club. Basically, you'll now see a "thumbs up" button underneath each post.

If it's a post that's been helpful or if you like the post etc., click the thumbs up "thanks" button and that member will receive a "thanks". These will be listed in their info box in the post area. Feel free to use this post as a test of the system. If it works, the thanks button should disappear for you.

This is a mod I paid to have designed for the board (I did the button lol) and it's the kind of thing that donations allow me to do.

Hope you find this useful.

Mitch

Good idea Mitch!!

Then you accidentally thank someone. I don't think the world will stop. tongue.gif

I love this idea. They have this on Facebook, and it's really nice if you don't want to post, but you do agree with what someone says.

Good add, Mitch.

Posted by: mlumz Mar 27 2011, 12:48 AM

Sweet. I love this feature, I've seen it used in other non-car forums. It helps other users to know if it's useful topic.

Posted by: flcerberus Mar 27 2011, 09:26 AM

Cool

Posted by: elantragt Mar 27 2011, 10:18 AM

I really think it's important this gets used. It gives recognition to posting members that their posts/topics:

1) are being read
2) were useful or interesting
3) made them smile in the case of some humor or off-topic posts
4) posted something they like or agree with

And the cool thing is, it's so freakin' easy to do. Just click the thumbs-up button.

Not working for me (Windows 7 Pro 32 bit and Opera 11.01)

Posted by: elantragt Mar 27 2011, 02:03 PM

Sorry to hear that but apparently it's not compatible with your setup. Don't know why though. Do you disable javascript?

I'm still keeping the feature. If anyone else is using Windows 7 let me know if it works. If it does, then it's an Opera 11 issue.

Try firefox.

Posted by: fsv87 Mar 27 2011, 02:09 PM

I'm on Windows 7, and it works for me. I use Google Chrome as my browser.

Posted by: elantragt Mar 27 2011, 02:12 PM

Phewwww... good.

I've tried this in Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera 10 and it works fine, but I'm not on Windows 7.

It seems that it's most likely a setting or glitch with Opera 11. Possibly even a setting on blupupher's PC.

EDIT: Nolan, I just found out Opera 11 is a beta program. There will always be glitches in beta, it's still in testing.

This is actually a really neat feature that I think adds a lot of value. This will be particularly useful when people offer their insight into technical fixes or other technical recommendations. It will allow people to say what did or did not work for them so that when others look for the same information, it will be easier to discern the best responses.

Good job, Mitch!

im on 7 and firefox, works for me just fine.

11.10 is BETA, 11.01 (which is what I have, I mis typed) is the released version. Don't think I have any JAVA disabled, so not sure..

Posted by: elantragt Mar 27 2011, 03:08 PM

Nolan, realistically, since you're the only one mentioning a problem, I'd have to say the system works.

Posted by: sarge Mar 27 2011, 03:13 PM

I just installed Opera on Mac - and was able to thank the above post...

I'll install on my PC(win7) when I load it up sometime.

Also just noticed that you can't thank your own posts... boo! tongue.gif

Mitch, could you do this with other hand signals? laugh.gif Just kidding!

Fabulous idea man! thumbsup.gif

Posted by: elantragt Mar 31 2011, 09:26 PM

Anybody actually using this? And I don't mean in this topic only. huh.gif

Posted by: fsv87 Mar 31 2011, 09:31 PM

I used it about 15 minutes ago.

Give it time...it'll catch on.

Posted by: slowgls Mar 31 2011, 09:52 PM

oh yea, i got 10 out of know were.

Posted by: elantragt Mar 31 2011, 10:00 PM

Posted by: elantragt Apr 3 2011, 12:25 PM

Come on folks. I'm seeing an awful lot of good posts and very little thumbs up button pressing. tongue.gif

Posted by: elantragt Apr 5 2011, 07:22 PM

I'm using it. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Blupupher Apr 5 2011, 09:09 PM

Well, if it worked for me I would use it.

I have tried on 3 different computers (all running Opera 11.01) and it does not work. Not sure what it is, since I have no other issues with Java.
And sorry, I am not changing browsers for a little button.

Posted by: elantragt Apr 5 2011, 10:39 PM

No worries but it is interesting though that you're the only one that this doesn't work for. B)

Matter of fact... see the thank you I gave you above? I was using this...

Posted by: jamhandman Apr 6 2011, 06:19 AM

Works for me, I'm using Firefox 4 and IE 9. smile.gif

And sorry, I am not changing browsers for a little button.

So I got around to installing Opera like I mentioned before.

Opera Version 11.01
Build 1190
Platform Win32
System Windows NT 6.1 (Win7 Ultimate)

Works for me. By chance have you tried another browser on your machine? Maybe a java update is in order? By chance do you run any other pop-up blocker? I shouldn't be classified as a pop-up, but maybe the program is blocking it?

Mitch - what else uses that 'working' overlay that could be tested?

Posted by: Blupupher Apr 6 2011, 08:57 AM

Well, I forgot I have the USB version of Opera (installs a little differently and can have issues with flash and java, had to use it at work since I can't install anything on that computer, and just copied it to all my computers).

I just installed regular Opera and it works just fine.

Posted by: elantragt Apr 6 2011, 09:04 AM

Nolan, glad you got the issue resolved. You're a great member and it's nice to see you can use this now.

Thanks. wink.gif

Posted by: elantragt Apr 21 2011, 07:48 PM

So, it looks like some members are using this but most aren't. It's so easy. If you like what someone posted, just click the thumbs up ok?

Posted by: fsv87 Apr 21 2011, 08:05 PM

Had to for that post. tongue.gif

Posted by: elantragt Jun 15 2011, 07:51 AM

So many members will write a thank you post and that's great but don't neglect the thank you thumbs up button ok?

It's easy and it makes people feel good. All with a simple button press. biggrin.gif

Posted by: elantragt Jun 27 2012, 01:53 PM

Don't forget about the thumbsup / thanks button...

It's an easy way to thank someone for a helpful/funny/cool post! I've seen so many helpful posts get no thumbsup. blush.gif

Plus... I'm trying to get to the 1,000 thanks mark. teehee.gif
