ElantraClub - For Elantra Owners and Enthusiasts _ Power Zone _ Tune

I'm pretty sure this question has been asked a plethora of times but is there actually anyone in the states that I could send an ECU in to or would it have to be sent to korea. Or am I just SOL. I have a spare ECU lying around and was only wondering.

I was in talks with OE tuning and they said they could flash it but would only be like 15whp for like 400 bucks. It may be worth a try. I have his email if you want it. Would like to see some one try it and see if its worth the cash.

Well I'llhave to think about it if it's going to be legit work done or not but I'll more than likely give it a shot.

Contact Blood Type Racing. They're doing newer Hy/Ki tunes and may have the software to crack the older ones. It'll be north of $400 though.

I know BTR is good, my brother has a can tune on his genesis from them. But it does hiccup sometimes. I'll contact them though and see what happens.

From what I'v seen, their dyno tunes are great. Canned tunes are decent but sometimes iffy depending on vehicle.

Another tuner well known in the Hyundai family is SFR. If you're west coast, BTR is closer, if you're east coast, SFR is closer. I'm definitely looking at a tune for my genesis down the road from SFR (probably stage 1.5). Make sure you have supporting mods for the tune though. Kinda pointless to throw a tune on a stock system...

I do live closer to the east side of the states, if I could send my ECU to them that would be great, otherwise that kind of lowers my options (not really able to do a lot of travelling due to school prep). As for the engine, I'm full bolt-ons, intake spacer, cam (contemplating getting both regrinded), and am soon to do a port and polish, BBTB and manifold port matched.

Pricing is also a factor for me. Also before I forget, would bigger injectors (sonata) be beneficial with a tune or just pointless?

Posted by: slowgls Jun 25 2015, 08:38 PM

Yea they could tune for it.

Sweetness! Now my main concern is which would be the best option. I don't mind waiting X days to get it back but I do want to be safe (if SFR and BTR can tune it).

Thoughts?

So you mean that this place/guy that is doing tuning for the Genesis can also tune a 03 Hyundai Elantra?

Well I haven't gotten a response back so I can't really say. Reading through SFR's tuning info they say they can tune X types of ecus and oneof them being kefico(?) From an image of a veloster. The ecu I have laying around is the same type but like I said. Still unsure.

Posted by: ElMurcielago Jul 2 2015, 11:40 AM

Just got a response back from SFR. They sent me to this link saying it would be the same tune https://sfrusa.3dcartstores.com/Seoulfulracing-20-ECU-Reflash_p_155.html looking at it, price is 350 with sent ecu or extra 200 with core charge. Sounds pretty promising. Thoughts?

Seems like a good deal. But i want to see dyno numbers first. If you do this you should get the car on one.

Posted by: trololololo Jul 2 2015, 04:38 PM

Min 8 hp for $350.... Using rule of thumb $50/hp

That's not bad... If u get 20... Rock on.

I'll order it eithert tomorrow or Saturday (depending which one is pay day) and dyno before and after on a mustang to see what happens.

I'm hoping to get some good gains. The ECU has to adjust of course maybe giving me hiccups, but I was wondering if I should get a wideband to monitor the AFR and make sure my engine doesn't go boom.

Posted by: slowgls Jul 2 2015, 08:29 PM

I really wouldn't worry about it to much. 15hp gain is very conservative tune, But wouldn't be a bad idea.

Well (if they can) with bigger injectors might make a difference. I could probably check if it's running too rich or to lean through the 02 sensors with a reader no?

It couldn't hurt to monitor it, but like slow said, 15 hp is pretty modest.

If you have a smartphone (I'm assuming you do), I'd go on Amazon via the http://www.elantragtclub.com/id607.html and buy a WiFi or BlueTooth OBDII scanner. Then buy an app such as Dash Command if you have an iPhone or Torque if you have an Android. All in should cost you about $30-$40.

If you're going to get into tuning, it's not a bad idea to be able to see what's going on. I have the WiFi OBDII scanner with Dash Command and use it on my Mustang and love it. Tons of good info.

I actually do use Dashcommand. I mainly used it to read codes though, but most of the time I use it to see my gas mileage on long trips. Thanksfor the tip though.

Update: Discussed more with SFR. can't tune the beta1. all you beta2 guys are good though. I'm kinda considering a piggy back system at the moment to be honest.

From what I've seen, guys with piggy back on Beta 1 says it works fine in open loop but runs like $#!/ in closed loop. Because the ecu tries to adapt. So it's basically standalone ecu or nothing. But for the price vs gains, you could buy a used wet nitrous kit and/or a transmission with a lower final drive ratio and get better gains.

Wow really? That kinda limits my options there. I did get word from my brother saying BTR is in Illinois near Chicago and since I'm driving up there I'll probably check them out and discuss with them in person since everything tends to appear better approaching than typing.

Both SFR and BTR are very respectable tuners for the Hyundai family. Outside of those 2... I wouldn't trust custom tunes unless you have a personal relationship with them.

I'm inclined to trust Jay from SFR. He has done a lot of good stuff for some buddies of mine. Also - Dashcommand for the win haha I love that app. I made a modified version of the LFA skin not too long ago and am a big fan.

Megasquirt.

I would have done SFR however I have the beta1 and they can only tune the beta2. I doubt BTR can but it's worth a shot to ask them in person since I'm going to be in chicago for a week.

Would totally do that however, emmisions testing and don't knowwhere to find one at.

Update: All right, so during my time in Chicago I went to BTR and ask about the tune. They said they could initially do it, however it would be a custom tune and they would have to wait for their dyno to come in sometime December. Sounds pretty promising.thoughts?

Has anyone heard back from SFR or BTR recently? Looking to possibly get a mild tune, and was wondering if anyone had gotten good results with either of these places.

Posted by: Bobzilla Apr 6 2016, 05:03 PM

I was just in BTR yesterday to get the Forte Dyno tuned. Got the baselines run and their tuner in Korea's laptop crashed. So we're rescheculing. Hit BTR up on facebook for fast response.
