Yet, my dads 06 civic is on the second tranny, it a 5 speed to boot. All your issues are common issue on this car. We all know about them and are very small issues, cheap to fix.

Unfortunately, tires are not cheap, engine cover is not cheap, break job is not cheap, c-clip is cheap but they don't sell it, oil consumption could be $$$$ if it's due to engine problems.

Your rear caliper could be due to a tear in the emergency brake cable causing the caliper to bind. This also can affect your tire wear (also check your suspension to make sure nothing is loose like swaybar endlinks, etc).
I've had mine new since 05 and it has nearly 98,000 miles and it's been great. No major mechanical problems, just basic maintenance. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I hate driving any car, so I have only about 3500 miles on it since July 2013 when I purchased it. No road trips.
So Far so good. I hear the motor more than I care to on the road. Not the quietest ride. A little thing is that the satellite radio does not light up at night, so I cannot tell what station is on! But I do like the radio a lot. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

This is my first Hyundai and I would say it will probably not last as long as my wife's Civic. The Civic had better suspension and body hardware. I have not driven the current Elantras but according to CU and Car and Driver magazine it is very good.

bigdon what year is your elantra?
My 05 has over 100,000 miles on it and runs like a champ. A few simple suspension mods will help the car handle a 100x better. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Hey Jerry, does your washer pump sound like it's trying to work? I used some Rain-X additive in my washer fluid and I think it gummed up the lines. I backflushed the lines (meaning I unplugged the hose at the jet and blew in them) and they started to work again. Might give that a try.

OH, and that moldy smell that the car emits after using the A/C. I had this issue with cars in the past as well. If it is still happening its an easy fix. Remove the cabin air filter if your car has one, then turn on the AC, and using Lysol spray can, spray it into the intake between the hood and the windshield. The air being drawn in sometimes carries stuff in with it, and the Lysol almost always kills it when this is done. Another alternative is to go to an auto parts store, or Walmart even has it is Meguiars whole car air refresher. With this you close the car up, turn the AC on and put this on the floor and pop it open. Let the AC run for 10 min closed up, then open the car for 15 to air out. It works really well for odor in the seats as well. My mom has a car that is stored for 6 months a year and this completely cleared up the musty odor on it. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I've got a little over 115,000 miles on my elantra. Still driving smooth as new. This year all the maintenance has lined up and I've been tempted to get a new car to replace this one, but it's hard when it works well enough.
I got to do a tranny/coolant flush, timing belt (water pump, etc.), maybe new brakes in the front and SHOULD get new all-seasons. (I have a winter tire set.) Well just wanted to report that the HD Elantra is aging as any modern car should. -------------------- |
