Ok I am hoping that the Hyundai dealer can finally figure this out but I am throwing this on here to see if any of the guru's here can help. My wife has a 2002 Santa Fe which due to current living situations is impossible for us to consider replacing. In the past year the car has repeatedly been back to a mechanic because it stumble's almost like a miss fire. After each diagnosis and subsequent repair the car has ran fine for any where from 2 weeks (longest) to less than a day after coming from the shop. We have in the past year replaced the MAF, all 4 catalytic converters, all 4 oxygen sensors, plug wires, plugs, coil packs, battery, alternator and probably not related a power steering pump and hoses. During this entire process the engine has not tripped a CEL or thrown any OBD codes. It is currently being looked at (I am told) by one of only 5 Hyundai master mechanics in the state of FL and it has had him perplexed for 3 days now. It is a 2.7 V-6 GLS 2WD model. Any thoughts are appreciated. This engine was also a warranty replacement when the original failed at 84,000 miles. I am assuming the ECU would have been re-flashed at that point?

i doubt the ECU was reflashed due to an engine failure. they have a stout set of parameters and are usually hardy in most weather conditions and atmospheric changes.
that being said, you've already done alot of the due-diligence repair work - it is hard to self diagnose without some sort of hardcore scantool since an obd reader wouldnt show you basic consumption values.. even harder since the vehicle is not throwing codes. with a misfire you should atleast get SOMETHING eventually within 60 miles i would think. -------------------- 2014 Veloster Turbo - racecar

My neighbor is a mechanic and has some pretty high end scan tools. We tried two different ones to no avail. Taking it to Hyundai is a last resort at this point in as I really dislike their service dept. here locally. However one would think they have the Hyundai (Special proprietary) tools to figure it out. This makes the 5th Mechanic.

Has the fuel pump ever been ruled out as the cause?

Here's my ideas:
upper intake gasket leak (since it has to come off for most of those repairs) Crank sensor Cam sensor crappy parts house plug wires What brand of plugs/wires were used? I've seen MULTIPLE times crappy parts house wires making a misfire worse. Bob the plugs and wires are Denso. If I don't get answers I will look into the other items you mentioned. Thanks!

Had you said NGK I would have been fine... but I've never used Denso's wires in the past so I can't say anything for or against.

It could end up being the ECU. I had a similar problem in my 05 Elantra (dealer replaced everything from plugs/plug wires/coilpack/oxygen sesnor) and ended up replacing the ECU and it solved the issue.
