I live in the states but my family came from Germany, Naturally I love German engineering. I have always loved VW, BMW and Audi but after buying my 02GT the performance needed a bit of work at first, but now I can't find one car I would trade for my little Korean car. I've had my car for four years and I still find myself looking out the window just to take a glance at it. I agree the survey really needed an very satisfied answer. Almost an eight year old car and I still get people who think Its an 2008-09 UNLESS thay know Hyundai, which that doesn't seem to be alot. Elantra's got the Exterior looks, Interior style and comfort , beta performance and the Joy of standing out even with an affordable automotive.

Even tho the car isn't mine- I'm still in it 90% of the time and I help with maintenance when he asks me to. Even tho we bought used, I can't complain.

My little 01 GT has 152,000 mile on it and without a doubt the most reliable car I've owned. It's been through 2 accidents, one major one minor. It's been up and down the entire east coast including Toronto Canada and it's taken the abuse of being my daily driver. I've had gone through 3 sets of tires, 4 sets of headlights bulbs, 2 radios, 1 subwoofer, 3 set of taillight bulbs, 3 sets of speakers and I'm on my 4th windshield and my 2 nd set of headlight and tail light assemblies. Plus the regular wear and tear items. Hmmm....The drivers side widow button sticks, The little part in the hook that holds the visor in place broke off. The front leather seats have some cracks on them. A couple of rattles and squeaks. Need new struts, my clock stopped working for a while now.......That's it. Not bad at all for a "disposable" car that was written off by people 130,000 miles ago after the accident. I have to give it up to Hyundai for making a great car. I still get a little angry when I hear people say Hyundai's aren't any good,....... whatever. I tell them my car note days are over.

mechanically sound overall, but the paint and power could be a little better (moreso the paint for me). She's been good to me over the last 5 1/2 years, so no complaints!

Overall I very satisfied. Paint is the only weak spot (orange peel and thin from factory), but that aside the car is great.

I bought my Elantra with 92,000 miles in September 2008 and it's now February 2010 and I'm at 126,500 miles. I've put a little more money than planned into my car, but I drive a lot so it's somewhat expected. Honestly I would never buy any other car but Hyundai, considering my sister's 2000 Elantra has 230,000 miles and is still moving along nicely.

Thumbs up here. The car is 8 years old now, so I guess this is where I'll find out about long-term reliability. Up till now it's been the most reliable car I've owned (although I am experiencing a strange electrical/sensor issue at the moment). But I never planned on owning it this long. Given the price I paid and how I've beat on it almost every day of it's life, it is hard to complain.
My biggest thing I don't like, however, is the mushy, no-feeling, constantly-warping brakes. Second thing would be the loud freeway noise -- I wear earplugs on longer trips. Engine power is adequate for the price paid -- it definitely could have been worse. Handling is good with rear tibby bar. Dealership services approaches incompetence everywhere I've been, but that seems to be par for the course with many auto makers. -------------------- 2002 GLS Auto
