I am using a MaxiscanMS509 scan tool, and am getting an error message stating "not linking"? Does an Elantra require a specific scan tool to read trouble codes? Thanks.

Any OBD II code reader should work.

Link error suggest there is no power to the ECU. Are you plugging it in when the engine is running?

My scan tool sggests using it when the ignition is in the "on" position. I will give it a try when the engine is running.
Thanks.

Yes, my scan tool also says the same thing, but means the notch beyond the accessory and to reset codes, I have to have the engine running.

[size="2"]I tried it with the engine running and I got the same reply -"not linking-try again". I used it on my Toyota the other day and did not clear off the trouble code after using it. Would that have any impact on its functioning when using it on the Elantra?

I'm not sure. I don't know how your scanner works. What did the manual say about the link error?

BTW, you also have a blown circuit. Did you found out what happened with that?

I finally got a chance to talk to the dealer and the service manager indicated it will not work if you have a blown fuse. I replaced the blown fuse and it worked properly. Thanks for the help.
