I finally decided to try and tackle this... every time I take the keys out of my ignition, I hear a high-pitched feedback sound coming through my speakers. I've traced the problem back to the amp ( I think). I don't know if its a wiring issue or an amp issue. My car audio system is a 4-channel Alpine amp, a Pioneer HU, and a Clarion EQ. All three share a common ignition, separate grounds, and the HU and EQ share a power lead.

I also have several accessories I've hooked up in my car- I've hard-wired an inverter to my dash, I have a 12V outlet in my truck, and wired fog-lights off my trunk lid so I can see when hooking up my camper/trailer/etc. At first I thought the ignition lead was the same for all of these (including the stereo), but they're not. I have no clue what could be causing this sound through my speakers! Thoughts?

Try adding an upgraded 4g at the battery, and on the amp ground did you remove the paint to get a good ground?

Anyway to tie all the grounds to one point instead? Not that the description of the sound indicates a direct relation to a grounding issue, but I've always gone with a central ground point (when possible) as the best practice.

Concerning the sound in question, does it remain steady state or does it gradually die away?

I should have mentioned that- it happens about 2 seconds after I turn the car off, and it lasts only a second. I'm thinking of rewiring everything with fresh thicker wires for the hell of it, and seeing if that works. I'm running a 8g wire for my amp, but it's not a huge amp and I've never had problems with it...

I don't know why or how, but this issue has gone away... I traded a Craftsman mower I brought back to life for an 8" amplified Bazooka tube. After hooking up the tube, I noticed the sound was gone.

When hooking up the sub, I sanded down the grounding point for my 4-channel amp, and ground the sub to the same point. Maybe that helped. Somehow, it all works...!
