I really need to get my car in to have the radio checked, but I figured I would post the question here to see if anyone else has experienced this problem.
I have a stock 1 U stereo in my car (the one without the IPOD connection, but does have an auxilary jack. I have the volume controls on the steering wheel as well.
The problem I am experiencing is that occassionally the volume will decrease while the car is running. Its pretty subtle, bt I sometimes catch the radio display showing a lower volume number until eventually there is no sound. Has anyone else had this issue?
I am positive I don't have any volume control (increase while driving) functionality with this deck.
Pulled the stereo out of the SUV before trading it for the E. Nice set of Focals. A pair of these
and a set of these
Also pulled the 400W Pioneer 4ch amp. That will be another project for later. The system bumped like it had a sub.
Checked out those how to's in WIKI. Went outside and pulled the door panel off the drivers door. It looks like the speaker brackets are riveted in place. HUh?? From looking at the pics in wiki, it looks like one of them replaced the rivets with screws and the other stuck with rivets?? Could it be that one is a 2011(screws) and the other a 2012 (rivets)? Or is there a nut on the backside and I need to take the panel off to get to it? It'd be nice to know if all I need to do is drill them out. Either way, I put the panel back on. Need to pick up some strap stuff for the tweeters and some shop lights at Home depot. It's too cold outside.
I recently tried to install a new head unit into my 2005 Elantra GT. The weirdest thing in the world happened. The wiring harness was done and everything looked OK, all of a sudden I hear a pop. I know it was a fuse, and I found and replaced one that was dead, but the radio would not come on. Neither would the dome lights. I could not for the life of me find the culprit, and eventually had to loop the power for the head unit back. I ended up finding constant power from the fuse box and wiring the system that way, but I still don't know where this busted fuse is!
Aside from the relay box in the engine compartment, and the fuse box on the drivers' side under the dash, is there any other known fuse locations?
So my friend owns a 2006 gti. He bought it used about a year ago. Well the previous owner did a really shotty audio install job and randomly put in an 8" bazooka sub. Well when my friend (Grant) bought it, it didn't work. He basically took it out since it was just rolling around in the back. He didn't really want it.
Long story short, he gave it to me for free. I have no clue if it works, some of the wires seem kinda cut up, and I'm gonna have to create my own power cable for it somehow.
Anyway, I already have a 10" Alpine R that I love and that hits well. I really don't need another sub. But I really want to do something with this. I'd love to try and come up with something unique with it.
One idea I had was take the sub and "amp" out of it's original casing, build a custom box, and put it somewhere. I thought it would be sweet if I could put it under the passenger seat, but I don't think it would fit unless I did a very shallow box. Do you guys have any crazy creative suggestions? I'm pretty much willing to try anything
The other day I hit a button on my stereo and I noticed that the right side of the stereo slid in to the dash a little bit. I figured that maybe the screws that hold the stereo to the mounting bracket had come loose and I needed to tighten them. I just took off the dash fascia, and as I was removing the screws that secure the mounting bracket to the dash frame, the plastic was crumbling around the screws. I slid the head unit mounting bracket out and it too is cracked on the right side, where I had seen the movement. I just got off the phone with a local parts desk and the guy looked up my VIN but wasn't able to get me a part number that matches the description that I gave. I can't find a part number on the bracket I have. Do you have the part number for this mounting bracket?
To clarify, this is for an 04 Elantra GT which came with the factory Hyundai Kenwood single-DIN head unit. The bracket has a compartment below the head unit with a door. I want this exact part.

I'm going to be starting my first major stereo overall around new years, and I'm trying to do some homework before I dive in.
I've checked the DIYs for breaching the firewall for the amp powerwire, but it would be nice to get some other options, or hear about your personal experiences about getting the powerwire into the passenger cabin. Of course, I'm looking for an easy job, and I would rather not drill a hole if I could.
Hey guys I have an 09 Elantra and I want to keep my factory deck as I am using the built in XM radio tuner and the Ipod connector in the dash. I currently have a older Hifonics Centurion amd that puts out 320 watts continuous and a 12" Eclipse aluminum cone DVC sub. Now this normally sounds very clean but for some reason in this car there are certain lower bass frequencies that sound overly amplified and makes it sound muddy at times. I have the bass boost turned all the way down on my amp and the bass set to 0 on the deck. I was wondering if anyone here has used any of the factory sound processors such as the MTX RE-Q or the JL Audio Clean sweep. I want to eventually add some component speakers up front and use an older Alpine 75w per channel rms amp on them and want it to be clean also.
I have a nice set of spare JL Audio component tweeters. I can't use them in my doors because I had already modified the holes to work with my existing tweeters (which sound fine). Should I try to mount them somewhere towards the rear? I don't want to create any weird staging issues. I can power them with the deck since my amp is currently powering everything else... what do you think?
Okay, so all I really did was plug a little 13 pin adaptor in the back of my stock 2004 gt kenwood stereo for ipod connectivity (with the help of my husband), but I'm pretty proud of myself. Much happier with my 12 dollar solution as opposed to buying a whole new stereo. Yay me!
Ok I've been trying to get my system to work for over a month now and havent been successful. The problem I have in front of me is getting my amp to turn on. I am getting power to it, more than enough power actually. But the thing wont freaking turn on. I know there is nothing wrong with the amp because (1) its brand new, and (2) I hooked it up in my friends car and it powered up and worked with his system with no problem. But it refuses to do anything in my car. I've checked my ground (its fine), checked my remote wire (its fine), checked all my fuses (they're fine), and set my deck to both sub-out and rear-out which did nothing. If im missing anything or you have any suggestions PLEASE help me out!!!
I'm getting a ground loops noise through my stereo, but only when I turn my headlights on. All headlight wiring is stock. I'm running a Clarion EQ in addition to my Pioneer HU and Alpine amp in the rear... it only happens when my lights are on. What the heck?
According to the cd player manual, pressing the A-M button cycles through rear/front fade, right/left fade, treble, and bass. However for me, hitting the A-M button does not cycle through BASE/TREBLE options at all. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe the manual is standardized for more than one version of Clarion cdplayer but everything else seems exactly the same. Weird....
OK, so the Accent, with all 19xk miles has become my new DD. The stock CD player is almost dead. the stock speakers are all but done (4 of the 6 are blown, including both front tweeters). I would like something that I can plug the ipod/iphone into, does not have to have actual ipod connection as long as there is an aux input on the front or back. Also need speakers. 5.25" up front and 6.5's out back. I'd love to run 6x9's, but they will not physically fit..... I already looked.
Budget minded, but good bass response (not looking for sub quality, just be able to hear it) and clarity. Needs to be able to be played rather loud without distortion because the car itself is extremely noisey, i.e. I cannot hear the radio now o nthe highway at 75mph in the rain without distortion/popping/cracking.
Trying to stay BELOW the $200 mark with install kits. GO!
I live in NYC and park on the street. This means I had better be smarter about installing my system than the average crackhead, or else I would be buying new windows every weekend.
My solution is to leave the factory radio in to make it look inconspicuous and connect a sub & amp, which will be hidden under the rear cargo cover, since I have a hatchback. I am using all the knowledge I amassed from asking on EC about the optimum configuration, which includes sound deadening (special thanks to songee623).
I bought a fancy line-out converter to use signal and remote from a rear speaker, and I am dead set on one 10" JL sub (500W RMS, 800W Peak), but up in the air is the enclosure and amp. So far I am leaning towards sonic for the sealed enclosure (with poly fill) and cadence for the amp.
I need help here! what amps are good for monoblock? what enclosures have a good name?
Furthermore, is this sub way too powerful for the OEM speaker set up? Will the highs sound like a 1940's radio with this kind of punch?
Thank you for any feedback, it is greatly appreciated
I just bought a 2009 Elantra GLS three days ago. The only thing it doesn't have that I really wanted is the ability to do A2DP music streaming via bluetooth. Ideally I'd like to get something which just hooks into the factory stereo, but I'm not sure if anything like that is available. I love the aux in and the USB port built into the base of the dash, so I'd like to keep those as well if possible. I don't care too much about hands-free capabilities, but it would be nice bonus if whatever I installed did that too. I have the stereo with satellite radio built in.
I figure if I can get something that interfaces with the factory stereo then I can it myself. Otherwise I'll gave to get a different deck and get a shop to install it. But I'd be up for that as well if need be. I just worry a little about it getting stolen.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there anything that just hooks right in to the back of the factory stereo? If not what's the most affordable aftermarket deck that performs well? Nothing too fancy - I won't be adding amps or replacing/adding speakers.
I've thinking about ordering a video headunit. I'm confident on installing it myself - my only issue is I don't know how to access the emergency brake wire for the safety thing where you can't play the video unless that's on. Would it be easier for me to try and install a bypass instead? If so - how can I do that?
I was wondering whether or not anyone had experienced door rattle after installing speakers in front/back of their Elantras. My last car (2002 Blazer Zr2) doors rattled so much that I had to keep my knee on it while driving (passenger was instructed to do so too)
Hey I need help. I'm installing a double din head unit in my 08 elantra. I ordered a double din kit but the new face plate dosent cover where the old head units knobs were. Where can I find a face plate that would cover the holes from the knobs and make everything flush?
Im wondering if there is a way to add an afternarket headunit to a Hyundai Getz with steering wheel controls. Im assuming if there is a successful way of doing this in a HD Elantra it will be possilbe in a Getz too.
Anyone who can share some helpful info on the topic id be grateful!
Otherwise ill just have to hunt down a crappy stock one with usb.
Ok so as most of you know i have a system in my car.Well i wanted to keep an eye on my voltage at the amp. I bought a voltmeter on ebay. Here are the steps i took to install in my car.
Step 1. Strip wires on voltmeter.
Step2. Crimp connectors on wires.
Step3. Run wires though the car and back of dash. IM not a smoker so i didnt need my ash tray. I removed it and put the meter in that spot.
Step 4. Crimp all wires together. Step 5. Connect to amps power supply
If I want to swap my stock unit on a 2012 elantra to the nav, do I need something else rather the head unit and I found this on Ebay can someone told if is worth it?
I've been wanting to replace my front speakers for a while, I've got a great set of Polk speakers in the rear of the car and the difference is so great that I have it set to 30% in the front and 70% in the rear. I wanted to keep my speaker setup in the Polk family but I found some other good speakers out there that are 6.5" vs the 5.25" ones from Polk. It wouldn't really matter for the rear, but for component speakers that are going to give me all the bass, size probably does matter.
My biggest problem is that I didn't really want to get component speakers because I didn't mind the stock tweeters sound quality and all the component speakers warnings on crutchfield say they need some type of custom work done with mounting and wiring the tweeters. Could I just replace the front door speakers with a two way set? I was also thinking of just buying the component speaker set and just not putting the tweeters in. Also, if I buy a component speaker system, do I need to install the crossovers that come with them since the car is already set up for component speakers?
iam saveing up to buy 2 mephis 15s and a new deck and preety much everything but till then i was looking at my kenwood hyundai gave as a upgrade or w/e and iam really good with engine but never been good with the sound stuff or anything lol so i was looking and found out you can turn the bass up alot more and i did that but i was wondering if someone could tell me where to set the other setings if i listen to alot of rap and hiphop stuff like that
After having my JVC KD-G615 in my Elantra for the past 5 years I decided it was time for an upgrade.
I wanted a unit that had blue tooth and iPod connectivity and something which illuminated blue, because eventually I want to change the rest of the dash and door lights to blue.
I picked the JVC KD-R826BT. It had all the features I wanted ... You lucky MD Elantra owners already have all this factory standard!
I wired up the mic for the hands free on the a pillar and put the USB port in the console to keep things nice and tidy.
I didn't want to make any big holes in the console to fit the USB connector through, so I had a spare USB extension cable laying around that I cut and re-joined back together and connected it to the rear usb port on the head unit.
The finished product.
After 3 hours putting it all together I'm very proud of myself, no left over screws or scratches from pulling the dash fascia and console out.
