I was going to Dyno my 03 Elantra GLS sometime in the next month or so and I was collecting some Stock data from our cars. For the Hell of it, I wanted to compare the stock factory data with that of the 03 Tiburon. I found out that the Elantra actually comes in the lead in a few places. Can anyone verify these tables?

I lifted this data from the corresponding car's Wikipedia page.

The GK tib was VERY heavy. With the same drivetrain (betaII, auto or manual) and an additional 4-500lbs it will always be slower. IIRC, the "published" weight was over 3000lbs for the manual 2.0 for the Tib, whole the Elantra was 2698. REAL weight was closer to 3200lbs on the Tib, and about 2900 on the Elantra. My 02 was 2880 with lighter exhaust, intake, wheels/tires and a quarter tank of fuel.

I have done some "Weight Reduction" type things too. I removed the second cat, resonator, and muffler, then replaced it with pipe and a Thrush muffler. I also have relocated the Battery to the trunk and have removed the spare tire. (Not worth keeping because I can't safely drive my car with the doughnut and my aftermarket wheels). The stock airbox has been removed and replaced too. So I would consider my car to be even lighter than advertised too.

I guess I don't get what the point of buying that year Tib would be if it's not a v6. It just sounds really pointless. Why even offer the 4 banger option?

Yes the tibby is heavier with the same motor. With the v6 tibby i would say its faster, even adding 20 or so more pounds to the front. The reason for a 4 cly is for mpg.

Oh and as for dyno numbers you should expect about 120hp at the wheels or less.

And that Delta V6 was a turd wrapped in a shit sandwich to top it off. It wasn't Hyundai's shining achievement, that's for sure. Terrible torque curve for a heavy car, horrific fuel consumption (16-18mpg was considered normal) and mediocre acceleration that almost any Minivan at the time could best.

The Tib looked the part for sure. But it was all it had.

The delta loves boost though. Well so does the beta 1/2.

I have not done too much yet. I have gotten a custom exhaust made and also have setup a CAI. I am currently saving for a Turbo Kit. I have a friend that has a Tib (03, same year as mine) and him and I have done some pulls and we usually tie.
