I have a new (May) Elantra Touring GLS. I just noticed the coolant level is below L in the reservoir. What would cause this on such a new car? I am going to take the car in for an oil change this week, but I am a bit concerned with the low coolant level in essentially a brand new car.
Any ideas of what might be going on? I checked the garage floor to see if it has coolant stains and it appears to be clean. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW I know very little about cars in general. Should the level be checked with the engine warmed or the engine completely cooled down?

Thanks...

Usually low to mid level cold and below H when warmed up.
Reservoirs can vary a bit.

Dealer PDI should have noticed and topped it up maybe , everyone should have a quart or two of glycol around if you own a few cars.

Keep an eye on it in case you have a tiny leak some where ; but most likely it was just shipped out slightly low.
My two cents.

Typically, your coolant level should be checked with the engine warmed up and running, and while parked on level ground (much like your tranny fluid).

Next time you look at your reservoir, take your car out on some errands first, then take check out the level...

Thanks for your help, I will check the level after it has been running for awhile.
