QUOTE (sed @ Jan 17 2012, 12:07 AM) *
I wasn't suggesting it was from poor design or from lack of planning, simply that a vibrating box sitting against a plastic container would tend to vibrate the interior contents. Kudos on getting best of both worlds, its been a lot of peoples wish to get full range audio reproduction in the elantras without losing trunk space.

Does that hinder backseat passengers much?

I never took it that way. Believe me I am open minded to read suggestions or criticisms if they come. This is my first attempt at buiding a box after deciding that the JL Audio Stealthbox is excessively pricey for what you get and being the middle of winter I wasn't going to train myself to make a fiberglass enclosure to mimic one although I did consider it regardless. Trailing all cables to the passenger seat area was an attractive idea as well as not having equipment bolted to the back seat or sides of the trunk, it would be impossible to hide screw holes in that plastic seat backing. I thought about a sliding tray to hang from the deck for the amps and processor. I took probably 2 full months just thinking about what I wanted and kept refining it until I started the build. Then I plunged in with all my research and refined it as I went due to a very slow and relaxed install. This pace was difficult for me because the stock audio was driving me completely mental but I wanted to go slowly and avoid any regrets.

As far as passengers go, no issues at all for 4, and mild inconvienience if you have a 5th. The box is literally no wider than the center console and a bit lower so the middle passenger would have to straddle it and impose slightly into the space of the L&R passenger footspace, okay if it's a kid. I don't have kids to worry about and have a full car very infrequently, usually no more than 4 people. Since the wife has a Mazda3 with no equipment in it I could get away with a 2 seater but I like more space when the need arises.

What I got tired of (since about 1991) was having to move the sub around in the trunk/hatch or remove it altogether when I needed the space. Not difficult but I felt there had to be a better way. Golf clubs, luggage, building supplies and the like need that trunk space. Renovating my bathroom required quite a few repositions of my sub into the passenger seat to accomadate cement board and the like. That annoyed the living heck out of me.

I enjoy my audio and I love to keep tinkering and trying new things. As a side note, this Audison sound processor is unbelievable.

Well I finally got around to making a quick video with my sub and headunit in the day time... I know one 10" isn't as power as some of the other stuff here but it definitely hits hard when tuned right. I love it. Check it out!
