Select your choice for moderate to heavy winter driving.

I have the Goodyear Ultragrip snows with studs. They are great in deep snow and ice. They are rated as a regular tire, which you want in a snow tire to keep the rubber pliable and the sidewall soft enough to flex and allow the tread to dig into the surface. I had these on 2 years ago when we had deep snow and I had no trouble going anywhere. We just has a couple snowstorms last week and they still could get me going.

I've got a set of Pirelli Wintercarving (Studded) on mine right now - I would have picked up the Nokian's, but with only 1 dealer in the city, I was concerned that if I ever needed to get them replaced there might be a wait involved.
I'm happy with them so far - there has been a few days where it was very icey, and traction was quite good. Unfortunately, the wife now hates driving her own car. -------------------- |

Are any of those at least H rated?

The Pirelli's are Q or T rated depending on size. I believe the stock-sized replacements are T.

I just ordered the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2. I was also looking for the Pirelli Wintersport 210, but while still on their website, the are no longer available. I need an H rated tire for the amount of highway miles I put in.
Figjam74, thanks for the link It was very helpful. -------------------- 05 Tidal Wave GLS 5 spd

Discounttiredirect for $412 shipped and stayed with stock 195/60/15 size.
STS wanted $132 each and had other suggestions, but were not H rated. I do not not want to drive the Taconic every day with a T or Q tire -------------------- 05 Tidal Wave GLS 5 spd

My Nokian WR A.W.P.s are H rated. No major complaints... they don't grip superbly on cookie-dough over ice, but my coworker with X-ices didn't grip well in cookie-dough over ice either, so...

QUOTE (silet @ Dec 6 2005, 01:01 PM) Depends on the model and size... of CURRENT Nokians, the RSIs are all R rated, the Hakkapeliitas and Nordmans have some Q but mainly T. The AWPs range from T, H, V and even W (there's 1 size that's Q). my AWPs are stock size 195/60/15 and H rated. -------------------- 2004 Hyundai Elantra VE 2.slow

Yup, I saw the RSI and the various ratings too. Well DTD is out of them, so I placed an order with TireRack. They are $15 more, so we'll see if they have them.
