So my flex pipe is busted and my mechanic is ordering me a new one to weld in. Since we are going to be cutting and welding in that area anyway I was kicking around the idea of deleting the second cat. I gave up on the idea of adding power to our cars long ago. I think it's almost impossible to add power to a modern car without a tune now. Example: my friend dynoed his evo before and after installing a K&N cold air intake. He lost 5 hp after the install. After tuning the car for the intake he gained over 20 hp. With that being said I'm thinking the only gain will be about a 10 IB weight reduction and possibly a little bit better gas mileage. Or do you think the Mpg will be worse considering that our engines are tuned for that second cat to be there? My buddy is a mechanic so visual inspection in PA is not an issue. And he says that the primary cat does 95% of cleaning so passing emissions should not be a problem. So what do you think? Will it make the engine run more or less efficient?

Hey guys, im currently working with a hyundai elantra 1.8 j2. The car is quite impressive at the moment. Doesn't have big power, but it is very responsive. At the moment i have a custom branch fitted, a free flow exhaust, cold air induction and recently had the ecu swapped out with a 2 litre ecu with a performance micro chip on the ecu. Well that is what i was told from the tuner. Car must still be tuned but it runs very nicely. Im looking to gain some more power and would appreciate any tips or advice. Thanks in advance guys. Great forum

Well I used this guy once before on a throttle body on a jeep grand Cherokee and the results came out very good. In search for more power for my elantra this will be another small step along with porting the intake manifold and adding my header and catback. I am going to try this in the next few weeks if I can find a spare throttle body to use(anyone got an extra laying around?).
http://maxbore.com/for $99 shipped for a bored, new plate and cleaned up housing its not too bad. what does everyone think? also, guys who have had them before, any noticeable power increase? throttle response? MPG?
just saw the other thread....I feel a little dumb for making this. either way, if anyone has any info, please post it up.
I made an offer on one on ebay for $20 shipped. we will see if they bite.....

Well after i got the flex pipe fixed on the car, i decided to get rid of the useless second cat. There was nothing wrong with it just wanted it gone. So when to advanced auto and got a piece of pipe. It is a 2in od piece of pipe about 12in or so long. So far i like it. Car seems to rev faster than before. It not any louder than before, but you can hear the car now. Im not worried about inspections because we don't have them here. Not sure if it would fail or not. All in all i think its was worth it. More pep with out all the noise. The next step is going to be a axle back replacement.

I just pulled my motor to fix the bottom end and I'm on the fence of replacing the clutch/flywheel since its all apart anyways. But what are your thoughts on a lighter flywheel? I am thinking of going with the exedy OEM style clutch as this car will be staying N/A but not sure about the flywheel. Heard the chromoly ones break and the fidanza one seems like it might not be worth the price.

For the longest time we have all said it cant be done on these cars. Well i think i may have found someone that can do it. Chris pointed me in the direction of a shop that said they can do it. Well after a phone call they said they no longer do it. But he gave me a email and company that still my do it. Well after e mail over the passed week i feel more confident it can be done. Now dont think we are getting big gains from this but something is better than nothing.
So here is what i know as of now, The company is called OE tuning, They do more high end cars like BMW, Audi and other stuff. They are located in L.A., way to far for me. But i could send my ecu in have it flashed and sent back in a few days. Here is the best part they only want $395.00 for a flash tune. He said he cold do custom tunes too. Seems like a good deal. Im really thinking about it.
So anyone in the cali area want to be the first to try it. If so i would like to see dyno prof and thoughts for the tune. This is very good news guys.

I have a friend with a 6 cylinder mistubishi motor in his dodge, and it has gotten me to thinkin; could one fit in an XD? I have looked into it, and there are many different sizes (1.6L - 3.0L (and maybe more?..)) and I was wondering if;
A: Anyone knows if any of these engines would fit.
and
B: What kind of result do you think I could see?
I ask about a mitsubishi engine because I know that the tibby v6 doesn't really net you too much. I also know that the upgrade opportunities are much more abbundant on a mitsu engine rather than a tibby engine.

My name is Dave, I am 21 and have had my Elantra since I purchased it from my grandfather at 17. I have been hovering the boards here and at elantraxd, have a few posts there. So, about two weeks ago I had catastrophic failure in my engine (car has auto trans.), and now need to replace it with another 4 banger w/ manual trans. or possibly a v6 tib engine with a 6 speed manual. I am not interested in forced induction, I repeat I am not interested in forced induction (at least till I am out of college, lol). Currently I deliver food for a bbq place, so I do not want the headaches of a turbo or sc . The most performance iIwill be going for at this time with the v6 will be full exhaust and intake. Maybe i will try and shed her weight since she will be gaining a little. I also need tires currently and the trans. is also on its way out. I feel as long as it can be easily done then it would be worth picking up a wrecked Tib with good engine, trans, axles, etc. No matter what route I take I will be doing the work along with some good friends. We all have knowledge within the field so I am not worried about doing the work. Currently, I am most concerned about the engine/trans mounts and the wiring. Do the mounts need to be moved? I would think not, if Hyundai was smart. Can I just throw the computer from the Tib in my car, wire everything up, and go? Or will I have to change things like key cylinder in steering column then also etacs, etc.? Also I am curious if anyone can give me a good guess at how much room is between the engine and the radiator support (elantra with v6 swap), my guess is 1.5" to 2" but i have really no idea. Reason being I have an evo radiator in the car, which if I remember correctly it is a 2" core with .5" slim fans. I can just reverse wires and make them push if I think I have 2" of room. I can always make it fit if I have to but the less work it adds the better. I do know someone with a welder, but I don't want to do anything too insane - well, somewhat maybe. Depends on your def. of insane. Obviously, clutch pedal has to be put in. I also will of course use the Tib seats and all that good stuff. I realize like a few people in Korea have done this and someone else is currently doing it on elantraxd (project is paused for the moment if I am not mistaken). I really want to do the swap to know the benefits (if any) of this swap for all of us and I think it may soon be a swap that is easily achievable. No matter what, I will document the v6 swap or auto to manual 4 banger, for the info or just enjoyment. I know I will not loose any performance by doing this, so I am not worried about performance as much as what car I buy for the swap.
Edit: radiator is 3" core 1" slim fans

Vehicle Specs
2009 Hyundai Elantra
2.0l Beta II
Automatic
Short Ram Intake
That is what I am working with, now I took a brief glance at the exhaust today and it looked like I had two cats, a resonator, and a muffler. I am going to be putting a turbo on this vehicle in the next six months or so. I was wanting opinions on brands of exhausts, size of pipe to go with, resonator delete or not, etc. I want the car to be quite when cruising but sound good, until you give it gas then it gets loud. CAN YOU HELP?

Just dropped the E-GLS off at a local muffler shop. They are going to install the header, move the secondary cat to be a primary cat, install a 17" resonator and turbo muffler, all of which will be in 2 1/4" pipe. Hoping to keep it under the radar and emissions friendly but pick up some mid range and top end power. Dyno to come as soon as I find a shop willing to let me do it on a weekend(busy week days at work lately).
This is the OBX 97-01 Tiburon header and midpipe, 17" Jones resonator and Thrush "Turbo" style muffler.

just got the OBX power steering and water pump lightweight pulley kit. looking at them it seems the power steering pulley is a v-goove pulley and I don't understand how it will install with a regular serpentine belt???
anyone installed them and can give me a little info about how they are suppose to be installed. the water pump is a straight forward install and I can do that no problem.
anyone have the lightweight kit and actually install it? or can take a picture of the pulleys close up of the ribs and belt?

2002 Elantra GT
2.0 Liter engine
5 speed manual transmission with pull type clutch.
Is there a 6 speed manual out there that will bolt in (newer Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi)?
I'm going to need a new transmission sooner of later and thought, why not ask?
I know that there is a lot of interchangability with a lot of parts between those makes.
I have no idea of the transmission to engine bolt patterns.

Anyone have an aftermarket muffler or custom exhaust with an 09 elantra on here? I am running stock now and would like a nice deep tone but not overly loud and annoying and rice or make my car look like shit. I saw a 7ism exhaust system on korean auto imports but its over $1000. And really now, is it worth spending that much money on this car? Maybe if I started getting into shows or if it produced great power gains but as of right now I think I would just like to find a nice muffler that produces a good tone. So if anyone can suggest me something or throw in opinions that would be great. Thanks!

What is a factory cai you ask? Well its using the factory parts and getting cold air in the engine. It took Roys idea and took out the resonator out sometime ago and cut it up. I have a snorkel in the fender and pipe it to the stock air box. Next i installed a K&N filter. After the MAF i put in a short piece of cai pipe, painted it black for extra awesomeness. The most important part of this is to reset the ecu.
Here are the pics
After install when for a drive and it seemed to have a bit more in the midrange but that's it. Don't think it help make it go faster but the intake was cooler.

I see from previous discussions on the Pulstar plugs that it is more hype than postings on youtube claim. My wife's car needs plugs. I was going to buy plugs when I found that Pulstar has forth generation plugs for her car. The price is about the same as good NGKs. I see some members used these plugs years ago. Any feedback. Do they last? If you had a choice between NGK and Pulstar which would you put? I really don't expect leaps of HP or extra mileage but at the same price, which would you pick? I don't want to buy these for 1 or 2 extra HP and find they are trash after 1 year or two. I would rather not have problems with my wife's car. Thoughts?

anyone use the OBX 02-05 tiburon silicone radiator hose kit? i just grabbed it since it was on sale and will do a write up/DIY once they come in. they say they work for a 4 cylinder tiburon but the hoses look the same to me and were cheaper than replacing the ones on the car with stock hyundai parts.
we will see, just throwing this out there for anyone who has old worn hoses....

I have a ton of Peel and Seal left and thought I might put some of it to good use. I have an Injen CAI set-up on my car. I was thinking of wrapping the the CAI in the P&S to reflect heat away, thus keeping the air going into the intake down a few degrees. What do you guys think?

Okay, this may be an extremely crazy idea, but I have thought about dropping the I-4 out of my '02 Elantra GLS and trying to put the V6 from a Tiburon in. My question is, could I just swap the whole front sub assembly from the Tiburon? Would it all line up with my frame?

my modded airbox/tube assembly is for sale also with the k&n drop in. please check the for sale section if interested....

(I don't see similar topic here, if it's existing , please delete this one)
I see on our local tuning market this is very popular power tuning - modify the throttle, all feedbacks are very positive.
the technical explanations you can see
herethis is one of modified cars - before and after
before:
red line - HP
green line - torque
after:
other two pairs in these groups - after throttle modification and after throttle+chip-tuning
this is simple explanation of this amendment:
also they promise a fuel economy up to 10%
typical price for work is ~$270
your opinion?

There is this huge misconception that adding a header(s) is a performance benefit. It is not!!! It is part of an overall package that "may" deliver real good increase in performance. What is good performance? 10% or greater HP and/or torque increase. Anything less is just expensive... too much $ per hp.
Gone are the days when you took a 150 hp 350 Chevy and got it to 300 plus. Those engines had potential, because they were under-built. Today's engine are highly efficient and have little to squeeze out of them.
As far as the BETA II is concerned, there is no package for intake, head, exhaust and tuning that is offered. You know why? Because there is no potential (legal, carb cert etc.) in this engine.
So in other words, what I am trying to say here is:
If you are putting a header in a Elantra, with out consideration to intake, head and tuning, you are wasting time and money.
