My niece just bought a '14 Elantra SE base.
I'm assuming this has the factory alarm. We were wondering exactly how that works and what it does. Like, if someone tries to open the handle, will it sound? What is the best after market alarm for this car? Her concern is when it's in front of her house, she wants to make sure no one is touching it or trying to get in. There are unsupervised kids and sometime not so nice adults around. Thanks in advance! Amy -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I believe it has an alarm but it would be easy to check. Put down a window, get out of the car, lock the doors, then reach in and unlock and open one of the doors. You will very quickly find out what it does! It would not have shock sensors though.
As far as aftermarket alarms, there are various brands (i.e. Viper) that have shock sensors where if someone hits the car it will go off. They are fairly pricey and unless your good with electronics, they would need a professional install. Instead of an aftermarket alarm, something like a Go Pro camera might be a better investment and then if there is damage to the car you should be able to figure out who did it. -------------------- Please consider helping keep the club online and independent. is she worried about damage or someone driving off with it never to return?
the unbeatable way to to avoid them stealing it is remove the main fuse.. kind of a pain. but worth it when leaving for weekend trips or vacay. if she just wants to know if a kid throws a football at it... then u gotta get aftermarket -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.

She will be looking at aftermarket for sure. For now, they keep an eye out the window. Thanks! -------------------- A proud member of the club.
